Waterfall.social is now one year old!
Waterfall is now over a year old! We’ve grown an incredible amount over the last year, so it’s time to invite you once again to take a look!
Developed solo for the first seven months of it’s life, Waterfall has grown to have a vibrant community of artists, writers, and musicians, as well as having a small, passionate team behind it! Waterfall is built from the ground up to provide a familiar, functional experience, focusing on creators and community, taking all the good bits from Tumblr and making them worth using, quickly becoming the fastest growing alternative over the last year.
In August, we ran a successful Kickstarter, and an app is now in development!
At one year old, the site is rapidly approaching its first stable release, though it remains under active development - despite this, we have most of what you could want!
Sideblogs! Not just Tumblr sideblogs - all sideblogs are fully independent of each other. Separate likes, follow lists, and the ability to send asks from them mean you can keep all your interests separate. Gotten tired of your main blog? Switching it to another is two clicks away.
Prevent personal posts from being reblogged just by adding a simple tag (#dnr or #do not reblog)! Don’t even want a comment on it? The “#dni” and “#do not interact” tags have you covered.
Functional blocking! While still primitive, we have staff members actively trying to break the system, and fix any holes we find. Shortly to be extended to include a mute list! Don’t want to see someone but still OK with them interacting with your posts? That’s the option for you. Find a way around it? Let us know, we’ll fix it.
Editable original posts! Made a typo in the group chat? Edit your original post, all reblogs will be automatically updated.
We allow NSFW, but aren’t focused on it unlike most other alternative platforms.
Dashboard skins! A few official ones, plus the ability to make your own.
In the coming weeks, a fully fledged theme system to rival Tumblr’s will launch, letting you make your blog your own.
A Tumblr importer, so you can bring your posts with you.
Our Commission Market (currently in public alpha) allows artists and buyers to find each other in a safe and secure environment. Problem buyer? We fight it for you. We still lose? We pay the fees for you.
And best of all, free, with no wait list, and an app in development.
And, our pride and joy… the Art post system! Nobody likes reposters, so we defend against them at the site level. If someone ever tries to reupload art that you’ve already uploaded, it’ll be converted into a reblog of your original post! Additionally, all art posts are eligible to be automatically featured - no staff picks, you made something and it deserves to be shown - something we feel so strongly about, that the featured posts system is biased towards newer posts from smaller artists. Additionally, art is never downscaled - your fans will always be able to see the full resolution post in all its glory.

A community Discord! Find blogs, report bugs, and get help directly from the staff. If we do something dumb, hold us directly to account by asking us what we were thinking. We try to be as transparent as possible about how we work, so feel free to ask us anything!
Manual report reviews! Your salad won’t be flagged for nudity.
Active staff and development team! Reports are usually reviewed and acted on in less than 6 hours, and bugs are fixed within an average of 15 hours from report to resolution.
As we said above, the site is still in active development, but after a year, we’re confident and proud enough to put the site out there once more. Questions? Concerns?
