My favourite line from asteroid city: "I often wonder if I should wish I had children"
a good friend told me today
toxic friendship is just as harmful
as a toxic romantic relationship
we don't deserve either
and I bid farewell to those that do me harm
afterthougt
the second child
for the elder to have a playmate.
a last minute invite
so the ticket is used.
the haunting echoes of
"did you want to come too?"
They were never really her friends
Convenient, close by, would invite her if it occurred to them
Rarely included early on
Wouldn't matter if she couldn't attend anyway
Her idiosyncrasies ignored and unaccommodated
But if theirs were it was unthinkable
A lesson in life at 36:
It's better to be alone than with those who do not love you.
In my head
Is a lonely place
Despite the running commentary
me
I've been wondering about spinsters of late,
The historical lone women,
Pariah?
Hideous?
Unlovable?
Or did they not want what society expected, choosing to be alone, choosing themselves.
I would be a spinster in history, yet today my mother calls me "independent",
I choose me.
at what point in history do you think americans stopped having british accents
Actually, Americans still have the original British accent. We kept it over time and Britain didn’t. What we currently coin as a British accent developed in England during the 19th century among the upper class as a symbol of status. Historians often claim that Shakespeare sounds better in an American accent.
whAT THE FUCK
I’m too tired for this
Always add in the video that according to linguists, Native southern drawl is a slowed down British.
T’ be or not t’be, y’all.
Fun fact: Same thing happened with the French accent. French Canadians still have the original French accent from the 15th century.
Êt’e ou n’pô zêt’e, vous z’auts.
I’ve been trying to find this post for months. I’m freakishly obsessed with this and want the truth of what early colonists sounded like.
The early colonists would probably have sounded a lot like Shakespearian Original Pronunciation. Watch this… (and listen).
this was overwhelming to read on a Friday afternoon - my accent isn’t original British? AMERICANS have the ‘original accent’?Â

Captain America : Civil War ☆☆☆☆½
Aka The Avengers have a fight (but not Thor or Hulk). Which makes it sound like I didn’t like it/am making fun. But I’m really not. I avoided as many trailers as I could for this film, barring the ones I saw when watching other movies in the cinema, because I didn’t want to be set up with the story/know the big explosions beforehand. I like this method because I can then be pleasantly surprised…

Eddie Izzard- Death Star Canteen
The National Rifle Association says guns don’t kill people, people do. But I think the gun helps. Just standing there, going ‘Bang!’–that’s not going to kill too many people.

memo to America from England:
The kiss at the door,Â
once so normal,Â
now provokes tears and frustration.
A rebellion inside,
to join the throng online,
leaving me feeling worse than before.
Dark Sonnet by Neil Gaiman.
I love that Chris Riddell is drawing illustrations for some of my poems for no better reason than pure enjoyment (and what better reason for making art could there be?)
Happy Poetry Day.
We agreed the fundamentals:
The politics;
The religion (or lack thereof);
The sense of humour.
But he didn’t love Neil Gaiman.
