The funniest part of this is that Washington is also portrayed by a black man
Something I find hilarious about Hamilton is that The Election of 1800 transitions straight into Obedient Servant and then The World Was Wide Enough, giving the impression that these events took place pretty rapidly, when in reality Hamilton and Burr’s duel didn’t happen until 1804. So the musical makes it seem like Burr snapped immediately after losing the election because of Hamilton when in reality this bitch sat on that and argued back and forth with Hamilton about it for four years before finally challenging him to a duel. Slow to anger, indeed
not gonna lie i do find it irritating and distasteful when people add onto discussions of hamilton with like “depictions of slaveowners aside it’s just a cringey bad musical anyway 🤪” like hm. maybe it’s just me but i don’t think black people trying to lead an important and nuanced and very necessary discussion about what is probably the most popular and critically acclaimed musical this century is really the best time for you to slide in tooting your clown horn and jerking yourself off about how flawless and cool your taste in media is
also frankly the fact that hamilton is highly critically acclaimed and in many ways just an objectively well done piece of art is. very relevant to the conversation in a number of ways and ignoring that so you can be like “well i never liked this corny show ANYWAY” is missing the point entirely. like. the conversations we would be having about hamilton would be entirely different if it was a genuinely poorly-done (from an artistic standpont) show that had fizzled out after six months on broadway. they’d probably also be different if the mainstream theatre criticism scene was less heavily white & male & middle class and we’d had a greater variety of voices sharing both praise and criticism in mainstream journalism from the very start of its rise to prominence.
the fact that hamilton is largely, in terms of pure artistic accomplishments (even disregarding anything relating to the book & lyrics - think about the choreography, orchestrations, design, performances, etc), a Good Musical and one that showcases some incredible performances from people of colour in what is normally a very white theatrical scene is something that shouldn’t be ignored when we discuss it because it’s part of what makes the discussion complicated, and it’s also a big part of why hamilton is relevant enough to have become the topic of such complicated and widespread discussion in the first place.
ah it seems that people on twitter are currently ripping on hamilton because 1. it’s popular again right now and 2. people are unable to grasp the concept that you can enjoy a work of fiction while still acknowledging its inherent flaws. that being said miku binder jefferson will always make me lose my shit
If you find out about miku binder jefferson through this post I offer my most sincerest and heartfelt apologies

Forgiveness. Can you imagine? If you see him in the street, walking by her side, talking by her side, have pity.
It’s funny to me how all of these gorgeous women are supposedly thirsting over hamilton when he looks like he was attacked by a feral raccoon before being knocked into a coma for two months
friendly reminder that u can be like “lin manuel miranda created a work of art that was meant to highlight performers of color and made broadway mainstream again and was full of amazing themes and motifs” and still be like “but hamilton is inherently problematic because it glorifies the founding fathers when they should not be treated as people to look up to” like u can and should do that
I love hamilton as much as the next person but the erasure of Laurens’ sexuality will always annoy me
BRUUUUH I LEGIT SCREECHED
Bonus:
EXCUSE ME, MISS, I KNOW IT’S NOT FUNNY BUT YOUR PERFUME SMELLS LIKE YOUR DADDY’S GOT MONEY!
( do NOT send these gifs to the actors, do not post on twitter. )
Say what you want about Hamilton but there are some RAW lines in it. The entirety of Wait For It is just!!!! Like, “Death doesn’t discriminate between the sinners and the saints. It takes and it takes and it takes, but we keep living anyway.” makes me FEEL things. Or, “If there’s a reason I’m still alive, when everyone who loves me has died, then I’m willing to wait for it.” And that one line, “I imagine death so much, it feels more like a memory.” Just ,,,, stirs my feelings you know???
Don’t forget “When my prayers to God was met with indifference, I picked up a pen, I wrote my own deliverance” like… damn
honestly, i still think SO MUCH about Your Obedient Servant. Like, the polite classical chords as a thin veneer of civility over the unfiltered rage. “I am slow to anger, but I… toe the line, when I reckon with the effects of your life on mine” “even if i said what you think i said, you would have to cite a more specific grievance, here’s an itemized list of 30 years of disagreements.” like, the SALT! the verbal gymnastics! the smokescreen of politeness they both insist on having! it’s iconic, and salty as hell and i am living for it
*softly* Immigrants, we get the job done
YES and also from We Know there’s like a set of lines like “I kept a record of every check in my checkered history check it again against your list and see consistency/I never spent a cent that wasn’t mine, you sent the dogs after my scent that’s fine” which is so incredibly creative of Lin-Manuel Miranda to come up with!!! There’s like three separate rhyme scemes going on at once, five different ‘eck’ sound uses, and cent/sent/scent are all used in the same sentence. All while still keeping up with the plot and making sense!!!
When you knock me down i get the fuck back up
Can we just admit that Hamilton was really good actually and doesn’t deserve most of the hate it got
I hate commenting on other peoples’ posts cause im always afraid people will be like “ha ha woo wee it’s a stupid hamilton blog ha ha” but that fear in itself raises several questions about the way we pick and choose what parts of cringe culture to preserve despite the common belief that it should be destroyed as a whole
not to be that dumb theatre ho but, to this day it still upsets me to see the same general shallow commentary on hamilton being rehashed because of the cringey parts of its fandom.
of course hamilton isnt a perfect musical, but many people seem to forget about the part where a puerto rican man decided to reapropriate an inspiring american narrative he discovered in a biography and gave it to dozens and dozens of other PoC (many of whose careers immensely profited from the unusual spotlight) in a usually predominantly white scene, and in the process created over 2 hours of absolute bangers after bangers which overall form a satisfying and emotional story, all of that topped with great acting and a genuine love for the arts.
Can we please stop pretending that all Hamilton created was (mostly white, mostly teenaged) kids “stanning” hideously racist old white dudes. Lin-Manuel gets tweets from POC saying “my kid had the confidence to go for school production because they saw someone who looked like them in a leading role in Hamilton.”
Stop fucking pretending that Lin-Manuel’s legacy is cringey white kids “stanning my trash son Jefferson uwu” you racist-ass motherfuckers. Hamilton fans are also POC that are so grateful and happy to see themselves on the stage, and love that A BROADWAY MUSICAL is so wonderfully and unapologetically not white.
man say what you will about hamilton but “the world has no right to my heart” is one of the rawest sentences i’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing
