all types of submissions are welcome , whether that be positive , negative or neutral experiences , vents , rants , or genuine questions ; just be respectful.

submissions related to other stuff ( ex. : 'sd + asd culture is ..' ) are also welcome.

our specific impediment is rhotacism + rotacismus bohemicus ( and , honestly , possibly something else as well , but the lion does not concern himself with that rn. ) ^_^

dunno if this counts as a speech disorder (i don't think i have one on its own? however i have AuDHD and struggle severely with finding the right words and pronouncing them right, even in my native language unless i speak a heavy dialect. only gets marginally worse when i try speaking english. so, sorry if this doesn't fit here, but i still feel like some people might relate?)

either way, i feel like i can't communicate with anyone irl without embarrassing myself or getting impatient, because i keep mispronouncing and misspeaking and improvising words, stumbling once and feeling like i have to repeat the entire sentence, and i can't stop until i get the whole sentence out start to finish. speech disorder/impediment/just struggling to speak at all culture is?

speech disorder culture is having your friend in class whisper certain trigger words to you while you're answering a question. (it's mainly a stuttering thing, I call it parroting but it's when I can say a usually difficult word perfectly fluently if someone says it to me first, it wears off quickly but for a moment I can repeat it back to them no problem, idk if this happens to anyone else)

perceived speech "disorder" x undiagnosed fibromyalgia culture is: the "speech therapy exercises" i was made to do as a kid were extremely painful and no one believed me about that

luckily my mother couldn't even tell if i was pronouncing the sound "correctly" on her own and forgot i was supposed to do those "exercises" after some time. rare medical neglect win if you could call it that...

(tbc my speech quirk is normally seen as a disorder, i just strongly disagree with that view)

i have an "accent" thats fully just the speech impediment ive had since i was a kid and people do the same thing to us all the time and it does take every ounce of restraint i have everytime not to literally jump on them and strangle them to death

that restraint does not exist even remotely for ppl making fun of others for their way of speaking caused by their speech and or hearing disabilities that they literally cant control "accents"

Speech disorder culture is being absolutely fed up with non-speech disordered people and all their ‘advice’ and unsolicited comments - like no, I am not going to sing everything I say, that’s a ridiculous idea, we are not in a 1950s musical, and the fact that you would suggest that is so fucking ableist because you’re implying that my voice inherently had less value and sounds worse than yours and the only way I could ever sound ‘acceptable’ is by communicating entirely through song. Do they not even realise how ludicrous that sounds? And how ableist they are being??? I genuinely don’t understand their motivations. Why can’t they ever be normal about speech disorders??? It’s not that hard!!!!!!!!!!

absolutely ! although i'm pretty sure language disorders are usually not classified as speech disorders, i believe those with language disorders still share many of the same experiences as those with speech impairments — and especially considering there's not many spaces for those with either, my answer could only be yes. :)

Speech culture disorder is realizing the reason why your disorder is severe and could’ve been the least a moderate struggle later in life, if you’ve just gotten help or was recognized to have LDs, is because people kept infantilizing you and dumbing down their vocabulary……..
