Brief Summary of Why Wicca and Witchcraft Are Not Interchangeable.
In regards to research:
Don’t accept witchcraft books for history. Read history texts.
Don’t accept witchcraft books for mental processes. Read psychology and biological texts.
Don’t accept witchcraft books for mythology. Don’t accept witchcraft books for religion. Read original texts and papers written researchers credited in their fields.
Use witchcraft books for witchcraft, and witchcraft alone. That is what they specialize in and what they are published for. If it branches out into a different subject, be suspicious and research the topic later.
May I please also add that “looking shit up on the Internet” and getting “answers” from unaccredited websites and some git on social media does not constitute research?
Please, instead of going to the New Age and Wicca section of bookstores, go to a library, and immerse yourself in the anthropology, archaeology, ecology, history, and literature sections. You will learn so much about daily life, thought, values, customs, arts, crafts, and foodways of The Ancestors — and they’re *all* our Ancestors, from great Aunt Myrtle to the Neanderthals and the Denisovans to “mitochondrial Eve” and “Y-chromosomal Adam” to everyone and thing all the way back up the biological Tree of Life to that first cell which split in the primordial ooze (now you know just who that wretched co-worker of yours so obviously descended from; the resemblance is more than just uncanny).
Most importantly, you get to discover what can be reliably, documentedly known from primary (archaeological finds, and texts whether carved, painted, stylused, reed- or quill-penned) and secondary sources (commentaries and allusions). You’ll never get that in the mass market paperbacks the publishing houses churn out. There is so much that cannot be known, and so much that isn’t currently known, but there is so much that is both known and knowable.
You’ll see for yourself that so many of the givens at the heart of modern eclectic Wicca (as well as sabbatic witchcraft, The Golden Dawn, and Renaissance ceremonial magic) are alien to what is known of actual pre-Christian paleopagan reality. (Mind you, that does not mean they don’t work.) What it does mean is that any claims to being “Thee Olde Religion” are, at best, wishful overstatements. And “Witch Queens” are right out.
You will be entirely and understandably forgiven for yelling at your flat screen because of “historically-based” miniseries’ utter bullshit (full-grown Travis Fimmel in furs instead of Calvins’, the rest of the casts’, and the extras’ whoremoanal provocations notwithstanding).
Lastly,
1. Cultivate crazed archaeologist (proximalcardia: MMMMMWAH!), historian, and linguist friends! You’d be amazed at the leads they can inadvertently give you.
2. If thou truly desirest an historical curriculum to live deliciously, hie thee unto the method of the theurgy of Iamblichos the divine of Chalcis! (although not necessarily his cosmology).
℣. Thus endeth the sermon. ℟. Thanks be to the Gods.
Things to Put in Grimoire / Book of Shadows
Your Grimoire, or Book of Shadows is your personal book of Magic. It can be any way you want it to be. Keep your favorite spells in it, use it as a journal, jot down important information you’ve discovered in your journey. This is a list of things I’ve done or will do in my Grimoire from personal preference. It doesn’t have to look a certain way or read any type of way because it is for you and you only; Until you die and your loved ones discover all the weird shit you were up to. ;)

On the topic of shadow work and having cPTSD:
I would love something that caters to abuse victims, because all too often non-traumatized shadow workers online preach “forgiveness,” as the true path to healing. Or they preach “everyone makes mistakes and the abuse probably wasn’t intentional, everyone is motivated by their past, just let it go.”
I was abused, sometimes purposefully, sometimes not, but it wasn’t anything like the ground level shadow work I see. All the articles online truly neglect people who have seen the worst in humanity. Shadow work doesn’t have to be dark or negative, it’s all about the good and bad parts of you, but not everyone has, or had, an easy life.
It’s all so shallow and privileged.

Familiars
~ What is a Familiar?
A familiar is a physical or spiritual being in which you are spiritually connected to. They are an aid to witches; their companion and guardian. Familiars are said to be healers, protectors, and helpers. Traditionally, familiars are animals, but they can also be human-esque. Animals are often viewed as familiars because of their connection with the earth. And no, familiars don’t need to be your pet. They can be any animal you feel a spiritual connection to.
~ Brief History of Familiars
A witch’s familiar wasn’t viewed as evil until the beginning of The Middle Ages. They came to be thought of as demons and dark spirits, and were associated with the devil. They were sent by their witches to wreak havoc because they weren’t easily detected and were fed blood. Every witch was believed to have a familiar, and close animal companions were often used as proof that the convicted was a witch.
~ How do I find my Familiar?
You can use spells to bring forth your familiar, or to provide clarity on what your familiar is.
Working with divination tools and asking them questions about your familiar are also great ways to help you find it.
Meditation is an amazing way to bring clarity about what your familiar is or is like. Take deep breaths and let your mind wander. Pay attention to creatures that approach you, their mannerisms, the way they communicate, and the way they respond. You may go through several beings, and may find out traits of your familiar through communicating with these beings.
You may not find one the first time, but that’s okay. If you truly believe you have a familiar, keep trying! Keep in mind, not everyone has one. Some witches even prefer working alone.
~ How do I know when I’ve found my Familiar?
There are many ways to know when you’ve found your familiar. Do they give you a boost? Do they follow you around? Do you trust them more than you trust anything else? If you answered yes to even one of those questions, then you might’ve found your familiar. They might take part in your rituals, be patient and aware while you are spell casting or doing spiritual work, hang around your magickal space, or be protective of you. They might be all of the above, and more!
~ How do I bond with my Familiar?
Most important thing I can say: respect your familiar! Your familiar will take this very highly into consideration. Give them the best life you can give them; the best food, best housing, clean conditions, positive energy, and lots of one on one time! Speak to them kindly, pet them, brush them, give them offerings, and reward them for their help. Make them a collar with protective crystals or crystals that hold your best energy. And overall, protect them, and make them feel safe. They will reciprocate whatever energy you give them, and then some.
~ How can my Familiar aid me and when?
Familiars are mostly known for how much they help their witch. They will aid you whenever they can with whatever they can, from connecting with nature to enhancing any psychic, spiritual, and divine abilities. Familiars will protect you, physically and spiritually, and be your emotional support. You can even invite them in to harness their energy for whatever you need them for.
~ Can I have multiple Familiars?
Of course! It is a common misconception that you can’t have multiple familiars, but you can! Remember, they don’t have to just be animals, and they definitely don’t have to just be cats, either.
~ Do you have a Familiar?
I do! My 3-year old, female tortoise shell cat, Kaya. I am beyond grateful that we found each other. She plays an important role in my everyday life, and has aided me in more ways than I thought possible. I love her with all my soul!
xx ~ @chlovoyant

I have COVID,
BUT I WANT TO GO HOME AFTER I AM BETTER. PLEASE HELP ME.
I knew it, there was a gut feeling I had when I was tested last week. That gut feeling you get when you know there is nothing but dread ahead. And now here it is. Thank you for your support on getting me tested. For reblogging, I appreciate it so much 😭
But now I would need to rally again because I want to go back to the US. I want to be with people who understands me better. Because even if I really want to finish college here, I think it will be downhill from here. I will not care so much if I will be homeless over the holidays as long as I am in my own soil. Because I am alone and lonely here in the philippines. Because I am scared of dying alone amongts people who don’t know me or accept me, yes, I am a black, bisexual woman. And it is not very common here so it could be why I am not getting enough respect or civility here. Please help me go home. I know plane tickets are expensive, from the last time I checked, from Cebu, it is at about $1400 but I will bury my shame and ask again for help. I don’t have a solid plan of where I will stay but I am asking some people already of what I can do when I get there. I will not stay in anyone’s home, it will be risky for them and I understand that. I will find a way. Thank you for the offers. Now I just really need to get over this virus and then go back home.
It’ll be all I want for Christmas.
PLEASE HELP ME GO HOME.
Go to paypal.me/rienacha and type in the amount. Since it’s PayPal, it's easy and secure. Don’t have a PayPal account? No worries.
Passing along
Deities. Have. Multiple. Aspects.
Oh my gods, the fact that I have to make a whole post about this is absurd. People can LITERALLY just Google this, but apparently some of the internet witches and pagans can’t get it through their heads that deities have multiple aspects.
Yep. You heard me right.
Deities can be the god or goddess of multiple things.
Deities have distinct and complex personalities and multiple personality traits.
Deities are not either light or dark.
Please, please, I am begging anyone who is claiming that a specific deity is just one thing to THINK. They are gods. If humans can have multiple things they like and are good at, multiple aspects, and multiple personality traits, then actual gods sure as hell can.
Here are some examples!
Freyja is not just a love goddess, nor is she just a war goddess. She is the goddess of love, sex, magick, war, death, wealth, and witchcraft, just to name a few. I’m going to be so irritated the next time I hear somebody say she’s “just a love goddess.” She’s not. Also, do NOT underestimate the power of love deities.
You might think Loki is just chaotic, or only having the role of creating mischief and getting everyone into sticky situations, but that’s only one part of their personality. He’s also incredibly justice-oriented and protective if you get to know him.
And my main patroness, Artemis, is a great example of why the concepts of “light deities” and “dark deities” are stupid. Artemis is nurturing, caring, and protective, and in the mythology she would help mothers giving birth at their bedside. But, if you cross her or those she cares about, she has a lot in store for you. Ex. when a human woman called Niobe said she should be worshipped over the goddess Leto because she had more babies, Artemis and Apollo went and killed all of Niobe’s children.
Stop pretending that your mortal, narrow view of a deity is always right. It’s not. That’s something I’ve had to learn and everyone has to learn on their own based on who they work with, but you at least need to recognize that every deity is multifaceted.
I don’t like to express so much irritation and anger on here, but I felt like this needed to be said.
Blessed be.
