reincarnation au where some people keep falling into old habits is so funny because let them kiss each other's hands or mouth. Everyone still stops talking when the king walks into the room. Some knights are very excited about color-theming with their old heralds and there are way more shades of color now so they can make their outfits more or less ugly depending on preference. Old lovers who meet after 1500 years of separation and the knight drops to his knees in the middle of home depot
The king wasn't reborn. No, as prophecy foretold he was found off the shore of a lake, gasping for air. Adjusting wasn't as difficult as you might think. A year passed and cars were just transportation, cities were just more people, and he understood how electricity functioned about as well as his former knights who housed him. The new world was overwhelming, but the universal comfort of good food, drink and company was all he ever needed.
Yet even with his companions varying degrees of patience in explanation, there was one question he dared not to ask. His eyes turned upwards with a sense of grim dread.
The king sat on the stoop, popped open the tab of a beer, and listened to the music and voices of the party inside.
The king took a sip and wondered where the stars had gone.

encouraging anyone who is ever thinking about typing or speaking the cursed words:
‘but [insert organism here] does nothing for the environment!’
to just
for a second. then follow these instructions:
(1) open up a web browser.
(2) type in ‘does [insert organism here] do anything for the environment?’
(3) learn something.
so many stupid fucking conversations could have been avoided with these few, easy steps.
just saw a pigeon doing the puffed up courtship dance thing to another pigeon, and as he was strutting around he suddenly stopped for a split second to do a very brief preen-peck at his own side, then returned to the strutting around. and i surprised myself by instantly losing respect for the male pigeon in that moment, like come on man i appreciate you had an itch or whatever but how is she supposed to feel special when you're getting distracted by bullshit like that? which on reflection i don't endorse, i mean those are pretty harsh dating norms i'm imposing on these pigeons, from a total outsider perspective, for no reason. probably not all girl pigeons are as uptight about that sort of thing as i would apparently be if i was a girl pigeon, maybe she even found it endearing who knows, i don't know her. it's none of my business really. sorry pigeons.
This is actually so real
this is a highly controversial opinion, I have no doubt King Arthur was bisexual but I think he was one of the few people in Camelot not interested in fucking Lancelot. he wanted to retain him as an employee but it did not cross his mind that Lancelot was fucking his wife because Lancelot is such a weird little twerp that he did not perceive him as a sexual being. my interpretation.
So true. The Galehaut/Lancelot relationship was like a dynastic marriage to resolve the conflict between two imperial powers. I like to imagine Galehaut was like “I have decided to abandon my plans of capturing [what is now] all of southern England and surrender to you despite my military advantage, all for the love of my achingly beautiful and spectacular new male wife, Lancelot du Lac.” and Arthur was like “Okay. Weird. Not homophobic or anything but Lancelot? You’re in love with Lancelot?”
Co-signed. That’s some real shit you said. Also, unlike Arthur, he was willing to yield and share his lover for everyone’s benefit. And then he died for love. A real freak. One of the best freaks in 13th century French literature.
he’s the most interesting gay wifeguy in literary gay knight history
I started a mental sentence with, “well, when we diagram the Arthurian polycule-“
And then realised that would be such a good title for a paper. “Diagramming the Arthurian Polycule: Mapping the Dynamics of the Round Kitchen Table”
It occurred to me today that you can use Miyazaki films as a really quick way to explain the difference between urban/modern fantasy and magical realism.
Kiki’s Delivery Service: takes place in the regular world— albeit at some nebulous point in time— but also magic is real and witches are a thing. Witches exist in this world because it’s fun and we like them. It’s fantasy elements in a familiar setting— essentially urban or modern fantasy.
Porco Rosso: takes place in an extremely specific place and time and contains exactly one fantastical element— Marco’s pig head— which is never given an explanation and is never questioned as a biological impossibility. It’s clearly a metaphor and commentary on a real world issue but it’s also very much literal. This dude 100% has a pig head. No other mentions of magic are made. This is magical realism.
This story brought to you by the fact that I’ve never seen a fanfic on ao3 tagged magical realism that wasn’t actually modern fantasy.
I’ve been reading about werewolves on Wikipedia and I just have to say. “Werewolves are warriors that descend into hell to fight demons” kicks unbelievable amounts of ass as a concept
Some day last week I stepped outside and the sweep sharp rain scent was painted over with the cotton candy smell of forest fires somewhere on the wind, so I started my annual reread of Norman McLean's Young Men and Fire.
I looked up resources since I have trouble following all the map work from the audiobook, and just recently the Northern Rockies Fire Science Network on YouTube has been posting a series of videos about the 1949 Mann Gulch tragedy.
Aside from the facts and information, I've been staring at the lectures conducted in Mann Gulch itself, thirstily drinking up how green it is. Yes, the videos were posted at the very beginning of May so they probably date from just after the snow was gone, but my god, it's beautiful.
