Okay, but check out this video from mid-May 2022 of a Kestrel Dad who just kept piling up voles and mice beside his babies when the mom was injured/killed/mia’d by owls…but then watched one of his babies just swallow a lizard and went “OH. I can feed them small food!” and learned to tear it apart!

EDIT: There’s a not-zero percent chance that this could be the same dad???????? The source is the same–Robert E Fuller–but they could be different birds.

UPDATE: Not only has Mister Kes learned to feed his chicks all on his own…

….the three chicks who were taken out of the nest for intensive care after the mom disappeared were put back in, and he just started feeding them, too.

He’s a single father of six who does not possess the instincts to feed even one of his offspring, but he learned and adopted that behavior without difficulty and is now hunting and providing for six kids all on his own.

Oh, Father’s Day update:

All six kids fledged over the past few weeks. Dad’s all alone now. I dunno if his kids are hanging around to greet him today, but I think he’s happiest if he never has to see them again.

That's why he let his monster child run rampant instead of giving it up for adoption, endangers himself in radioactive space in turn, causing his world to become infested with snakes (which is still unforgivable), harasses him to make a rewind power just to go on a rampage, holds a grudge against him for leaving just to make sure their asses don't stay on tiny planet, tries to manipulate him out of intensive crow therapy, threw a shirt at her just to date this strange woman he just met, harasses him to get him a dangerous giant animal, kills him and leaves him for dead all because he's too worried about pussy, refuses to help him figure out which Beth is the real Beth, and dismissed Birdperson's truth about Rick's depression, refusing to help or even talk to Rick about it.

Rick may treat Morty like shit but when he starts feeding him, the ungrateful shit bites it, like a cocky Morty would.

Also people tend to forget that Tony and Birdperson perhaps understand him the most. And Summer knows he loves her too.

I do! It's because cultivars of foods that are sold in grocery stores are specialized to have a long shelf life and resist bruising and pests and stuff, which means we don't have all the yummy variety. :(

Selective breeding takes a long time. If you hybridize a Sturdy, Easy to Grow, Pest Resistant Corn and a Purple Corn, you might not get a corn that's Sturdy, Easy to Grow, Pest Resistant, and Purple. It's not like Sturdy is even one gene. You'd have to slowly breed the Purple into the Sturdy Corn.

And by then it wouldn't even be Purple Corn anymore, it would be a purple color variant that tastes and otherwise is much like the generic Sturdy Corn For Walmart.

Monocultures and obsession with maximum profit and productivity kill the variety...

Some of these are specialized for popcorn, some for corn meal, they all have different purposes. Maize is really remarkable.

Definitely something to look into, since a lot of garden seeds you buy in your home and garden store don't allow you to save seeds and grow them again.
