Bursting your window open, the wind carelessly maneuvered throughout your room, blowing out all the candles you had carefully distributed to gain some light after the inconvenient power cut that happened not so long ago.
You hated darkness, especially during a chaotic storm like this; every crack and bang that happened outside instantly made you jump and recollect your surrounding. Every shadow that the moon cast upon your floor frightened you, tricking you into thinking it’s someone that’s ought to harm you.
The heavy winds and rain remained untouched outside, as you scrambled off your bed in order to close the window shut. Your phone’s flashlight was the only source of light, along with the moonlight, that helped you navigate around the room in search for the lighter which you could use to relight the half a dozen candles.
One by one, you carefully lit each candle, trying your hardest not to spill any hot wax on your hands which could cause you to drop the candle and set the house on fire.
The room regained some light, and if not the eerie weather outside, you could be able to say that it almost became cozy.
The candles created a warm, golden ambiance as the blankets on your bed invited you to get underneath them. You accepted the invitation, snuggling deep into your bed, sleep coming upon you instantly. But you promised Namjoon that you’ll wait for him after his rehearsal, so you decided to strictly stick to this plan and distract yourself by reading a book.
Usually, your phone would be the main source of distraction that you depended on. However, with the power outage, there was no internet and unfortunately you used up all of your mobile data a while ago. All you could do now is patiently wait for Namjoon to come back and sort everything out.
As you finally indulged in the book, the plot hooking you in, you felt your phone vibrate the whole bed somewhere beneath the pile of blankets and cushions that surrounded you. You wiggled and turned, feeling every inch of your bed in search of your phone. Finally, you found the device underneath one of the many cushions on your bed.
The screen lit up with a text from your boyfriend, “I’m coming home now. The weather is horrible, I hope you’re okay?”
You were reluctant to let him leave the house today, as the weather man forecasted a bad storm upcoming later in the evening. Namjoon knows your relationship with thunder isn’t the greatest, especially with those as severe as this one. So he couldn’t help but worry about you during his rehearsal.
You replied with a simple, “Be safe please. I’m coping, somehow.” and locked your phone, the room instantly becoming darker, as one of the candles closest to the door blew out again. This time the window was closed, so this sudden action creeped you out. Persuading yourself that the candle wick got submerged by the liquid wax, you turned your attention back to the book.
However, there was something lurking in the corner of your eye that caught your attention. It was a dark silhouette, resembling exactly that of Namjoon’s.
You didn’t hear the sound of the door opening or closing, neither have you heard any footsteps coming up the stairs. But you assumed that he quietly sneaked into the house to scare you.
“You scared me.” You whispered, as you laughed at how easily you got frightened.
The person was lurking in the door frame, standing awkwardly straight and motionless. He was staring right at you and you couldn’t make out whether he blinked or not as almost all of his frame was covered by the deep shadow coming from the hallway.
You were confused as to why he was still standing there, usually he’d already be laying down on the bed with you, his exhausted body limply hovering above yours to give you kisses. But now he was standing still, his eyes glued to yours.
“Stop staring at me like that.” You raised your voice slightly at him, as his gaze was now creeping you out.
As soon as you finished your sentence, a shot of white light filled your whole room, followed by a deafening crash of thunder. The sudden change in exposure caused you to not see anything even after the lightening passed.
It took your eyes a while to adjust back to the dim light in your bedroom. Slowly regaining your eyesight, you could no longer see the silhouette standing beneath the doorway. You had no time to look around the room, in search for who you believed to be Namjoon, as the sound of the door closing captured your attention.
“I’m home!” Namjoon’s voice echoed throughout the house as he just came back from rehearsal.
