“Fuckin’ hell…” You cursed, clutching your latest test in your hands so hard the paper started crumpling. With the way you were reacting to your score, people would’ve thought you had failed.
But that wasn’t the case, by a long shot. For a matter of fact, that was never was the case. You had never failed once.
The idea made you laugh. If you did? You’d swallow razors and drink lemon juice for all you cared. No one was gonna catch you lacking, especially not with him around.
Maki turned to you, dark hair falling to her eyes. “What’s got you all worked up, huh?”
Before you could respond, she snatched the paper from your iron grip. You had such a tight hold on it, it almost ripped when she slipped it out of your fingers.
She squinted at the big, red number at the very top of the paper. She raised an unamused brow before placing it back onto your desk.
Miwa peered over your shoulder to take a peek. She rested her chin on your shoulder, confusion written all her over your face. “[Name], you got like, twenty marks higher than me.”
That wasn’t the point. It didn’t matter to you what everyone else got, the only thing you could focus on right now was the fact that you got a lower score than-
As if he was reading your mind, Megumi Fushiguro slowly rotated in his seat to stare you directly in the eye. He discreetly held his paper up, just high enough to you to see, and just enough to piss you the fuck off.
Megumi had gotten a perfect score.
You felt your jaw tick, there was basically steam pouring out of your ears. In all honesty? You didn’t need to get the top score. You only wanted to beat him, and wave it in his face.
This asshole had been doing this since the sixth grade. The two of you had always gone head to head in everything. Your little rivalry was going to kill you one day, and it all depended on whoever came out on top in the end.
In the eighth grade, Megumi had come storming into your classroom looking for you. You had sworn that nobody was going to get higher than a ninety on the exam, and to nobody’s surprise, he did, and he only walked into that room to rub it in your face.
Unfortunately for him, and very, very fortunate for you, you had gotten a point higher than him. He was seething, but you could alway see right through that calm exterior he had always put up.
A smartass always knows a smartass’s mind best.
“Fushiguro, you’ve been staring at [Name] for a looong time now.” Yuji’s annoying ass voice snapped him back to reality. When he whipped back around to look at his best friend, he had a suggestive look on his face, earning him a groan.
“Would you lay off with that shit?” Megumi’s flashed his permanent scowl at him, slipping his test paper into his backpack neatly, unlike Yuji, who had a bunch of random notes and scrap paper shoved into his.
Yuta chuckled softly. “Is she your girlfriend or something? You two dating?”
The raven haired boy snorted in disbelief. “Hell no. I hate her, and she hates me. That’s it.”
“Then can I talk to her?” Yuji smirked, with Yuta giving him a silent high five under the table. “Surely this isn’t the first time someone’s making a move on [Name]. Pretty and smart? That’s basically the entire package.”
Megumi clenched his jaw, glaring daggers at his best friend. Megumi’s looks could definitely kill, cause Yuji could almost feel a sharp stinging sensation in his chest.
The two had successfully ragebaited their friend at the cost of their own lives.
He attempted to sound calm and collected, but the almost growl-like noise in his voice said otherwise. Yuji usually would’ve told him to ‘take a chill pill’, but he was already on the verge of getting decapitated, and he’d very much rather have his head on his neck.
As much as you hated to admit it, no matter what the both of you were doing, you both had the other on your mind. You could call it rivalry all you want, but no rivals think about each other staring at the ceiling lying awake at night.
