What gets me about footage from the trial is that sure, Amber Heard was suffering on an excruciating, personal level. But she had also already written, at length, about the realities of misogyny and this woman-hating world. So the footage of her distress and her agitation speak beyond what she knew was being done to her. She knew what this meant for women in general.
From Porter magazine in 2018 (prior to the WAPO essay):
fuck my stupid fungus life
Is it time to have the conversation that forcing and making lesbians like dick or otherwise labeled bigoted is apart of rape culture and just another way of hurting women

Pregnancy is not "inconvenient"
Missing the bus is inconvenient.
Losing your purse is inconvenient
Pregnancy is intrusive, risky and life-changing and no one should have to justify not wanting to go through it.

The psychic violence in pornography is unbearable in and of itself. It acts on one like a bludgeon until one's sensibility is pummelled flat and one's heart goes dead. One becomes numb. Everything stops, and one looks at the pages or pictures and knows: this is what men want, and this is what men have had, and this is what men will not give up. As lesbian-feminist Karla Jay pointed out in an article called "Pot, Porn, and the Politics of Pleasure," men will give up grapes and lettuce and orange juice and Portuguese wine and tuna fish, but men will not give up pornography.

PLEASE talk about SWELFs
✨ SWELF = Sex Worker Excluding Liberal Feminist ✨
aka the girlbossy libfem who platforms shiny, privileged onlyfans creators as “empowered” but instantly silences anyone who shares a story of coercion, poverty, grooming, migration, or trauma.
SWELFs love to say things like: 💬 “you’re just a minority voice.” 💬 “that’s not representative.” 💬 “you sound kinda SWERF-y for saying that.”
…while literally being the one doing the excluding women who are in the huge majority of sex workers in the statistic, that did it out of poverty, addiction issues, migrant issues or grooming.
SWELFs deny material reality by flattening everything into choice discourse. If you don’t fit their aesthetic TED Talk version of sex work, you get erased. Survivors and exiters become invisible. Why does it matter? Because SWELFs flip the script: they exclude survivors from feminist spaces while accusing those very survivors of being “exclusionary.” Survivors are branded SWERFs simply for naming their material reality and experiences.

Gender cannot be a protected class while also being fluid and “on a spectrum.” If you want your entire self-image to be composed of your gender and gender expression then go crazy, it’s none of my business. But the challenges that that people face for being trans do not stem from the gender they identified into, they stem from the sex that their physical bodies clearly have.
...like that meme of a dude dressing up like a woman and reporting back that women are called the f-slur a lot.
We can have protections to prevent violence against gender nonconforming people without having to strip away protections for females.
