Stiles wants to get married in a church, as a matter of fact, he wants to get married in the exact same chapel that his mom and dad got married in.
Derek wants to get married on the cleared out grounds of where his familyās home once stood. he hates the idea of his family (whether dead or alive) not being able to witness a huge milestone for him.
normally, Derek would give Stiles whatever he wanted with little to no arguments or fussing, but for once, he just wants this.
Stiles loves that for most of their relationship, Derek has always caved in and gave Stiles whatever he wanted. so heās a little baffled when Derek fights back on this⦠which is how he ends up standing in front of Derek late one night with a powerpoint on why they should get married in a chapel.
āthink of how cool itāll be when we stomp the glass and everyone carries us in our chairsā Stiles points out. his little laser dancing over the uploaded image of his mom and dad stomping out a clothed covered piece of glass.
āi donāt mind the glass part, babe.. i do mind the chairs..ā Derek says, shaking his head
āitās a jewish tradition!ā
āyouāre not even devout!ā Derek counters
they then bicker when Derek suggests that a platform can be built in the woods, āand we can stomp as much glass as your heart desires.ā
āitās not the same,ā Stiles damn near pouts.
they hash it out for what feels like hours; both making their own points and reasonings behind them. neither of them wanting to leave anything or anyone out (yes, even Peter is invited). neither of them coming up with a compromise or solution before calling it a night.
despite feeling emotionally depleted and somewhat defeated, Stiles still kisses Derek against his forehead, promising that theyāll figure it out before they head off to bed. (Stiles has his longstanding rule to never go to bed angry ā obviously learned from his parents).
the whole next day, Stiles and Derek are still going over it.
Stiles presenting Derek his coffee, turning on his āsexy voiceā promising things to Derek they both know Stiles will forget to keep in exchange for the chapel wedding.
Derek smirks, kissing Stiles gently, coffee breath and all, saying, āiāll think about it..ā even tho Derek knows heāll be standing his ground over their forest wedding.
they both wish this was easier; that either of them would be pleased with simply heading to the courthouse with one or two witnesses and calling it a day. but theyāre both so much more romantic and stubborn than theyād like to admit and have been dreaming of their fairytale wedding since forever.
Stiles pesters Derek all day through texts, sending pinterest boards of classic chapel weddings, bombarding his fiancée with aesthetically pleasing images⦠and a random james brown impersonator.
Derek sends Cora and Peter to Stiles in hopes they can convince him. Cora lays down the puppy eyes while Peter guilt trips Stiles by going over Hale family history, regardless of its relevance to the wedding.
both Stiles and Derek come home from work, ready to start back up again what was unfinished from last night.
āusing your baby sister was a cheap trick, Derek Hale, and you know it! i didnāt even know she could cry on command like that - so unfair!ā
āyour dad sent me a whole folder of their wedding photos.. one.. by.. one; because your dad still doesnāt know he can send multiple photos at once! do you know how crazy it looked having my phone go off fifty times during a meeting?!ā
they go back and forth, Stiles bring back the powerpoint as Derek argues why they should marry in the woods. they go back and forth until theyāre both slumped on the couch, sitting in silence as they stare at each other with exhausted expressions.
āfuck it, weāll have two weddings,ā Derek blurts
Derek nods, sitting closer to Stiles to take his hand. āwe can have the chapel wedding with all the traditions you want ā no james brown impersonators! then weāll have a second wedding in the woods, just us.ā
āreally?ā Stiles asks, his eyes beginning to mist as he reaches to cup Derekās cheek.
āi really have a hard time saying no to you,ā Derek admits, ābut i didnāt want to leave my family out either. this is the easiest compromise.ā
āyou love me, you really love me,ā Stiles smiles.
both weddings are beautiful. multiple tears are shed from various eyes of the party. thereās no james brown impersonator but Erica gives it her best shot (after fighting the band leader for the microphone).
on their honeymoon, Derek approaches Stiles as he lays against the sands of the beach, Derek kissing across his husbandās sun-soaked skin.
Stiles smiled where he rested on his towel, feeling the tickles of Derekās stubble against his back.
ācouldnāt imagine a better view, Mr Hale,ā Derek says softly just before kissing across Stilesā neck.
Stiles giggles at first, basking in the soft lips pressed against his neck and shoulders. then his eyes shoot open with realization.
āyeah,ā Derek chuckles, āweāre married now, remember? officially spouses.ā
āDer, youāre taking my last name,ā Stiles states matter of fact
āi donāt remember agreeing to that,ā
āand i donāt remember saying iād take your last name either,ā Stiles quips
āso whoās taking whoās last name?ā Derek asked
⦠they have a wonderful honeymoon.. aside from the two days they bickered over whoās name would be claimed.
