We live in a world where we can reach across the globe and pull information from places far different from our own. Media that was designed with their own cultures in mind, stories and histories that were never taught to us as kids.
I think often about what my life would've been like day to day growing up in many different parts of the world, experiences I'll never get. I don't know if I mourn or yearn for it. All I know is I see myself in these different places and long to be there in person, experience the entire world for what it has to offer.
I do not desire a life where I remain in one place forever. If I lived in the 1700s-1800s I'd be a pirate. If I were landlocked I'd be a nomad.
Today I still wish to be a nomad but the world doesn't look kindly to people who don't want to stay exactly where they want you to stay. I want to travel by ship rather than plane, each ride across the world by boat or train gives you incredible experiences, where the moment is now and the people around you become your neighbors, if not for just a brief passing.
Everyone in life asks you what your dream job is, my dream isn't about the work I do rather about the places I long to be. Invisible lines that we drew across our maps divide us and prevent people like me from achieving our dreams of venturing across this special ball floating amongst a sea of black.
My dream is to see it all. I refuse to die in regret of not taking the chances I can to venture around the world. I don't want a house, a solid foundation is a trap I'm not willing to fall into. It took 30 years to realize what I want out of life.
Asking kids fresh out of highschool what kind of life they want forever is a mistake. Take your time and meditate long and hard about the kind of person you are and what you want to be.
College is a job trap and not always a goal. You've got plenty of time to come to your own conclusions of what life means to you. It's a big reason why I'm all in favor of UBIs, universal healthcare, and universal higher education. We deserve the freedom to decide what kind of life we want no matter what.
