So I’ve been studying paganism on and off for a good 4 or 5 years, and I’m wildly confused.

I see a lot of people saying they’ve communicated with gods, can see energy and auras, and have seen and felt crazy things. Meditation is nearly impossible for me, I’m losing belief, and I don’t know what to do.

I suppose I’m just looking for advice, or a unique pagan religion that I can connect to

My only advice for this type of situation is simple just- tone it out. People on here make it seem like their in some anime where they snap their fingers and bright green orbs float around them. Or that their deities crawl from the mirror and physical stand before them but honestly, more than likely, they're sitting in front of a mirror in some type of prayer trance and visualise it. Just focus on what you do best and hone your skills, you'll do great. I promise.

Witch Tip

Make a wish. If you're low on spoons, or energy, and you want to get some magic done or just don't want to get rusty, making wishes work. Just envision your overall end goal, put some emotions and determination into it, and push it put into the world. Feel the world realigning itself to conform and accommodate your wish. If you need to do something physical, then hold something, put your wish in that object, and set it down. Setting it down will be like releasing it into the universe. Or write it on a scrap of paper, wad it up real good and just toss it out a window. Grab a leaf, make a wish, and cast it in the realms of magic.

Witch Tip

For those witches that always have their phone in their hand, make use. Download drawing apps and save sigils. Draw sigils on a piece of paper and put it in your phone get plain stickers and put them on the inside/outside of your case with sigils draw on them. When your phone charges, so do they! Blank stickers are also really cheap and can be found almost anywhere.

Getting through a 'downswing'

Following [this post], I’d like to write about what to do during a magical or spiritual downswing.

A downswing is a period of magical or spiritual “night”, when abilities and powers seem to be dampened or lost, and the natural connection is weakened. A spiritual dark night is to be expected in the path of any practitioner. A downswing can last for days or weeks.

I am currently in a downswing where I am required to take a magical “break” and not force my abilities. So here’s a list of stuff to do while in a downswing, to keep yourself spiritually aligned and focused on positivity.

MEDITATE on positivity, love, and peace. Engage in meditations once or twice daily. Take the energies from this meditation to carry you throughout your daily life.

REFLECT on your spiritual path as it was before the downswing. Ask yourself what could be improved, what could be added, what could be reduced, and what could be taken away entirely. Closely examine your spiritual and magical paths and ask yourself what can be changed for the better.

MUNDANE FOCUS on your physical life is useful and positive during a downswing. Catch up on chores. Deep clean. Spend more time with IRL friends. Put more focus in to work. A downswing is an excellent time to seek physical balance.

SELF WORK is a good idea as well. Make your downswing a time of resolutions. Work on breaking bad habits and adopting new, positive habits.

SCHEDULE your time. This is especially useful if, like me, magic and spirituality is a huge part of your life. Fill up your time with mundane chores, tasks, and relaxation time.

PLAN AND ORGANIZE your time for when you are done with your downswing. Dissect your magical and spiritual practices. Organize your spiritual practices and have a solid plan for where you want to go when you are done with this period of reflection.

CATCH UP on life! Make a list of the five biggest mundane tasks you need to tackle. Focus on catching up and getting ahead in life.

ACCEPT that this is a necessary and normal period of time that pretty much every spiritually aligned person goes through. You aren’t losing anything. You are not lost. It’s just night time. Dawn is coming on the horizon.

Remember that a downswing is like a break from intense spiritual and magical connection, leaving you time to focus more on the physical and other aspects of your life. Do not think of it as a loss, rather think of it as simply a break or vacation.

Ways To Recharge your Tarot Deck

Place a ring of salt around your tarot deck.

Sleep with your deck under your pillow. 

Place deck on window sill to bathe in the moonlight. 

Place your deck in sunlight, just be careful as they may fade.

Bury your deck. Make sure you put them in something that keeps water out and remember where you buried them!

Knock on the top of the deck twice and the bottom of the deck once.

Use incense to smoke cleanse the deck.  

You can use crystals to charge your deck. 

Shuffling and reordering the deck.

Meditate while holding the deck in your hands.

Runes

So lets talk runes. I have studied and practiced runes for a long times now, and here are my personal notes. With that, I am giving one disclaimer: I am talking about, in this post, my uses for this alphabet, and by no means any 100% universal or historical facts. If you’d like to learn more than what I am offering, you will have to do more research on your own. There are way too many sources of information on Elder Futhark for me to read and discuss. 

Runes can be used for three things. Writing, Magic, and Divination. Runes are ancient alphabets. I specifically use Elder Futhark, or old norse runes. I will post pictures from my grimoire later, for pictorial reference. In my opinion, Elder Futhark is the easiest to learn, especially in predominant English speaking areas, or in areas where the English alphabet is similar to the native alphabet. The Elder Futhark 25 letter alphabet is as follows-(Picture to show what they look like, but listed in proper order)

[When doing rune readings and using runes for divination, there is typically included a 26th letter, which is generally left blank to represent the unknown/destiny]

When using Runes for writing, especially Elder Futhark, keep in mind that, when used in writing, traditionally words are spelt phonetically. The letters are simple straight lines since they were carved in trees and wood and its easier to carve straight lines rather than curved.

*A tip for me, when memorising the alphabet, if you don’t want to bother with a cheat sheet, I associate each letter with it’s English counterpart and then a word that fits its meaning that starts the same letter.*

When used for magic, it generally boils down to personal preference. I use Elder Futhark to make runes, and to add to my spells. If I am doing a good luck spell, I use Sowilo. If I am doing a spell for protection, I use my Algiz runestone. 

When used for divination, traditionally, runes were carved into wood or bone which were casted then read. Now in modern times anything from Amethyst, Wood, Bone, Iolite, Snowflake Obsidian, etc.. work just fine to just. I personally suggest using what feels best to you. There are many ways you can go about casting and reading runes, the video below demonstrates a few different but common ways.
