Challenge 121: I’d Like to Buy a Vowel - L is for...
I definitely had no idea where to start or where I was going with this. I eventually fell into this idea of making the ‘L’ on a sign or billboard and making up the world with items that also start with the letter ‘L’. The Square Carousel crew enjoyed it and made some good suggestions and I went with it. Hope you enjoy!

Challenge 116: Mythology: Centauress Vorsila
Ellen here, I’m glad to be able to participate in another round at Square Carousel. For this prompt, I kind of approached it last minute like I do most of my art projects. I started with the idea of drawing the Greek sea nymph and goddess Rhode (or Rhodos) because I am traveling there at the end of this month. I ended up with this Centauress that I named Vorsila. Things don’t really ever go as planned for me when it comes to art but that’s what makes it exciting! Anyway I know this isn’t a super original mythological creature but I really liked how this turned out and I’m happy I took on this project.

Challenge 92 : Portrait
I was going to do a portrait of my current mood - after a few years of dating in new york, one ( at least me ) always get the feeling that we are “eternally searching for the broccoli in an ocean of tomatoes.” Somehow it became this , Mr broccoli. Maybe I have him inside of me.
Thank you for including me in this next few months ! I will do a more proper self-portrait soon.
Challenge 77: 5th Anniversary - Renew Anniversaries are the times in life where we can look back in past for ups and downs while gearing up for what is yet to come. I see this process as a gift; a total restart without losing or condemning who you were. Rather, it’s heading towards a better direction, knowing what you have learned. I picked rose quartz as a main colour inspiration and created an image of snake moulting. Another year. Renew. And the growth continues.
Congratulations to Square Carousel. I can’t believe it has been 5 years since we first sat in Gallery Espresso picking papers with random words to name our group. I’m glad we landed on Square Carousel that day and that I was a part of the starting members. Glad to be back as a guest.

Challenge 77: 5th Anniversary: Daisy, The Flower Collector
Over this past year, much of my personal work has involved creating imaginary worlds of strange girls at night. For the 5th Anniversary Challenge, I went with the theme of Daisies, and decided to use this opprotunity to finalize an old doodle from my sketchbook. So happy to be able to contribute again! It so fun to see how everyone’s work has evolved over the years. Keep up all the wonderful work!

Congratulations for Square Carousel's 5th anniversary!! I'm so grateful to have been a part of such an amazing group of artists and people. I appreciate the invitation to participate in this 5th anniversary challenge! I chose to incorporate the color of rose quartz in the moon of my Kitsune liquid-acrylic painting. Just my take on the Japanese folklore about the multi-tailed fox! Very fun project :) Thanks so much you guys! (my apologies for bad image quality) Catherine

Sometimes it feels like when you finish one project, there are three more to take its place. Should’ve taken that coffee break decades ago. Thanks for having me aboard!

Challenge 61: QDC ‘Future’ Collaboration: Get Me Bodied
These past couple weeks have been filled with some fun good ol’ fashioned collaboration between Quick Draw Collective and Square Carousel! Here you can see the efforts of Patricia Thomasson and myself when we put our heads together (pun definitely intended) and thought of how our bodies may be customized in the future.
Both of us were inspired by the story of Valery Spiridonov, a Russian man who is going to get a complete head transplant. Crazy! If a success, imagine all the amazing and weird things people may do in the future! With that in mind, we created our own exquisite corpse, if you will, of various heads, torsos, and legs to mix and match to your heart’s desire. You can even download templates to make paper blocks to play on your own! Find them here:

Hope you all enjoy!

Challenge 48: Invasion: Everyone is watching, nobody cares.
For this recent challenge I wanted to illustrate an interesting phenomenon that I have noticed in social media. Sometimes it seems that the more you post, the less people take interest in you as they slowly become numb to your updates. The internet has turned into this ever-watchful ultra-invasive system that may cause you to think your every move is being watched... it is, but socially, it is totally surface level.

Challenge 38: School: The Tree
Hey! I’m Chris Westgate! The Square Carousel folks were kind enough to let me fill in for Courtney on this challenge. I was thinking of college party culture and remembered a story I heard once about a guy having a drug induced cathartic moment at a party. The guy climbed into a tree during the party and stayed there the whole night. The next day he came down a born again Christian. Just a weird little story I think I heard on a Ben Folds album, but it seemed like it could make for an interesting scene. I had a lot of fun on this though. Thanks again Square Carousel peeps for letting me join in!
Chris
