Every tumblr girl from 2014 would’ve gone insane for this. (Available HERE)
girls who used tumblr during 2014-18 were highly fashionable ones and had so many cool ideas 😩
this is what happens when society denies women functional pockets for too long
the united states of america is the most repugnant country in the world
i don't like. disagree w/ the idea of "pretty privilege" in that i'm very aware of the way desirability absolutely plays a role in the way people are treated but i do think its a less useful, and less specific framework to talk about what is in reality an amalgamation of thin privilege, white privilege, able bodied privilege, and usually cis (or, conditionally cis "passing") privilege. And i think its important because when we define it as "pretty privilege" we get caught in the weeds of what is conventionally attractive or not, Who exactly benefits from it and what that entails, when we already know the classes of people in our society who are Allowed to be beautiful (see above). That and its genuinely very fucking annoying see thin whities self identify as just soooo beautiful they're actually privileged for it. Not as cute and self aggrandizing to recognize that privilege for what it is: Racism, fatphobia, cissexism, ableism, etc etc etc
now that i think about it, jonathan harker would’ve been a great character in frankenstein. he’s so completely oblivious to dracula’s red flag parade that he’d probably completely avert the creature’s murderous rampage by accidentally befriending him after spending a page and a half writing about some weirdly tall homeless guy with daddy issues he ran into
“I’ve met the most peculiar man today. He was far taller in height than I have ever witnessed before. His face gave off a general sense of ugliness, though I cant quite place why considering he seems to be quite handsome when not in animation. A multitude of scars seemed to cover his body, perhaps from a terrible accident and the subsistent surgeries. I’ve noticed that he always looks close to crying. When i asked his name, he replied, in length, that he had none. How queer! As he seemed fairly harmless, and rather in need, I invited him to accompany me on my passage to Count Dracula. He looked bewildered, but accepted. I know not whether he shall continue to accompany me when I return to Mina, but I’m quite certain she would never reject hospitality to so miserable a man!”
i love you
"We've discovered SHOCKING TEXTS in which conservatives talk about their love of hitler and how badly they want to kill lots of people." Wow really? I "discovered" the same thing absolutely everywhere they've ever spoken on the internet since I first looked at the internet.
still not over the stephen colbert thing, the way they're punishing him so much by not only essentially firing him but cancelling the show he loves in its entirety, which means also punishing all 200 people who work for and with him on the show.
it is setting an example. it's saying, "this is what happens when you speak truth to power. we will not only punish you. we'll punish the people around you that you've led and loved. is it worth it now, stephen? would it be worth it, other late night talk show hosts? if you don't keep quiet, we will quiet you". the other late night talk show hosts are not all under paramount (iirc, it's just the daily show), but this sets a precedent that tells them they are all vulnerable.
"it's not a big deal" idk man it really seems like it is
politico article on this btw. i should've linked it in the original post
Regardless of someone's feelings about this particular show or man, this is taking a successful and popular source of anti-Trump criticism and making an example of it. It's meant to cause a chilling effect. If they can come for successful and popular voices, what does that mean for people with less success and popularity?
Trump wants to “bring Columbus Day back from the ashes”: a day honoring a barbaric man who enslaved hundreds of people.
But he’s not a fan of Juneteenth: a day honoring the end of slavery.
Whenever I hear someone say “Children need a father.” I’m like. Mmmm. Kill Bill sirens. Never about child welfare and how children need multiple positive role models and it takes a village to raise them, always about shaming single moms or being homophobic. Because no. Not every child needs a father. Many children are healthier not being subjected to their father.
There was a video of a widowed woman at a wedding talking about how her son sometimes finds other kids fathers to hang out with at social gatherings because he misses his dad and the comments were like “You should remarry and give him a father.” absolutely fucked up thing to say.
why do you and others like vaccines so much?
not dying of preventable diseases is actually one of my favorite hobbies
if you don't do anything else today,
Please have a moment of silence for the people who were killed instead of freed when news of emancipation finally reached the furthest corners of the american south.
have another moment for the ledgers, catalogs, and records that were burned and the homes that were destroyed to hide the presence of very much alive and still enslaved people on dozens of plantations and homesteads across the south for decades after emancipation.
and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.
black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.
if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.
This is Juneteenth.
white people CAN interact with this post. share it, spread it.
United Healthcare getting sued by its investors, because it didn't warn them that the CEO getting murdered (by the tendrils of their unmitigated greed) was going to lead to them approving more claims (for covered services that they had no right to deny) is a cartoonish example of exactly why their CEO got murdered.
Their argument is essentially "You promised us a specific profit margin that is not possible to achieve under this increased public scrutiny of your unethical practices. We only agreed to invest because of those unethical practices. So we demand compensation because you didn't warn us that you'd be behaving more ethically"
And idk. Satire isn't just dead. We've pissed on its corpse and now it's dissolving in lye.
this is one of those little details that jumped out and stuck with me since hearing about this.
crazy to take a business to court because they need to take “aggressive, anti-consumer” tactics. like right, making life increasingly harder and worse for everyone in the pursuit of short term profits is very intentional, and sometimes someone will just come right out and say it.
the “consumers” in question being sick people
So we can charge people protesting the likes of Cop City and ICE with domestic terrorism. But the man with a list full of Democrats to murder, and who we know visited the homes of other lawmakers, just gets murder and stalking charges? Interesting.
Why We Speak
To triumph, all the wicked need is our silence as they pursue their tyranny.
For in that silence, we will sadly find that our path lies beside complicity.
True courage stands and speaks its mind; it is undaunted, damn the cost–
It knows the power held in every voice and just how much could still be lost.
This is why, in these times, we must all speak–loud and proud and clear;
Why we must have faith in one another and why we cannot give in to fear.
Why we must stand firm in the face of hate, even when it feels we must move the heavens;
Remembering, always, the simple, eternal truth that from our lips leap weapons!

Crazy thing about #healing #recovery Small Victories is when you'll have some shit going on that's like, saying this would involve admitting how you used to be doing. You know? Like hey guys good news I'm gonna change my bedsheets this year
That's the thing about Doing Really Bad you kinda keep it to yourself. And then you start doing a little better & when you try to tell people this the vibe is like "what do you mean you were living in the sewer this whole time are you good?" while you're standing there like Yeah that's not the important part never mind that. I'm literally out of the sewer
