Has anyone else noticed/mentioned on here the grey censor rectangle on Meursault's seasonal art? To be clear, while interested, if somehow someone has a leak then I don't want to see it because I trust PJM had a reason to block it.
This rectangle is on both arts we've seen (Japanese billboard & actual promo) but it is inconsistent and sits in a different place on each. It's the rectangle under the STÚDĬUM. I believe the blocking under the PUNCTUM is also tacked on, due to the horizontal lines breaking it up. While these shapes are the same size on each, it actively blocks a good amount of the art which makes me assume that it can't be the actual way it'll look.
If this is just like they didn't know how to make it look good then...hm. I get it in theory, because black on grey on black. But uh. It doesn't have to be black. Like it could easily be white, or have an outline, or be blue or many other things. But I think there is something there...
Under read more is talking about a single detail from the Japanese promo that may be intentionally censored on the mass promo? So possible spoiler but I really doubt it. They are two different aspect ratios, so I believe this one just lent itself more towards showing it.
He's holding a gun in his left hand. They've censored him holding a gun and I think it was by accident more than anything, just because the billboard has the gun showing. If it was for the gun, then it would be unnecessary and not there.
Don Quixote's second to be referred to by name, no title, by Meursault. Meursault's only indisputable friend (not to me [only being the keyword here] but agreed en masse). WHICH COULD MEAN NOTHING.
I am kidding. It means something. It means he perceives a closeness enough the title is not required. I assume it's in moments of distress that he forgets, but I also assume that by the powers of Trauma he wouldn't just forget without it being earned
I like Meurcliff, I find it appealing. However, I've found while writing for them I went "wait, does Heathcliff have a nickname for Meursault?"
So. I need to find that. While I do that, I'm going to make a very serious analysis on their behaviors.
*After going through these, I am 95% sure Heathcliff does not have a nickname for him
**Meursault refers to only Heathcliff by name. When he really wants him to understand
This does not have events in it. So no April Fools' or Arknights. I am going to try to keep this up to date, mostly for my own writing's sake
This will contain spoilers for all Cantos and Intermissions! This is LONG, it documents all of the interactions they have!
CANTO I:
In the Dungeon, Heathcliff asks why they're hesitating for beating some enemies to death and Meursault says "Give the word, and we'll do it"
(This & telling Ishmael that Charon seems to be trying to lure guys to Mephi are his two lines in the canto. No CGs with him).
CANTO II:
Meursault labels the term redistribution of wealth.
Based on his past, Heathcliff is more inclined towards people who aren't wealthy. A lack of disgust towards the concept and knowledge of it lets him know Meursault presumably isn't one, or one who identifies with it. I am assuming Heathcliff heard this because they were all talking with the person he said this to.
Heathcliff gets pissed off and tired from the backstreets and being attacked constantly, starting to swear off Hong Lu and being the one to bring up how much this sucks.
Meursault chimes in to talk (maybe his longest line) and say they need to take out the head of them and the meat will fall apart with it.
Heathcliff says "You. You’re the only one speaking my tongue here" and then says he's pissed off so let's go break some bones, heads, whatever.
I believe this is the first full affirmation Heathcliff gives anyone so far. Heathcliff also corrects how he speaks for what Meursault said, or puts in the effort. This shows SOME kind of respect for him.
In the CG of Sinclair Maraca-ing it up, Meursault holds a wind flute behind him. Presumably he was handed this by Hong Lu and took it. I truly am 50/50 on whether he would play it but let's assume not.
The real thing to notice is Heathcliff. He is staring bewildered to his right, where Meursault stands. Not at Sinclair, Hong Lu or Gregor. There is distance and the chance he is staring bewildered at Ryoshu, however his head angle doesn't make much sense for that. He is doing big bug-eyed side eye.
There's the chance it's also at the man crying from the dance next to him, but his wide eye goes upward, over that man's head. This doesn't appear to just be the artist wanting to keep his iris' attached to his eyelids so he doesn't look crazed either, because it is detached.
Heathcliff is staring at Meursault. Why? My conclusion is he perceived Meursault as a macho tough guy who cared about masculinity. However, when handed a silly, gay little pan flute he just takes it and continues watching Sinclair. I think Heathcliff is just trying to figure out why and the image of Meursault is shifting in his head.
After Gregor does his cringe ass revolution speech Heathcliff asks what that was. Meursault answers "Propaganda. His effort has regrettably ended in failure." There is no dumb question with Meursault or mockery. Just an answer and sometimes a consequence of that answer. He takes Heathcliff seriously and not stupidly.
CANTO III:
Meursault reveals he was a part of N Corp. Gregor pushes for info about his past. After being (what I feel is) clearly uncomfortable answering, Heathcliff chimes in and goes 'what about now? Just tell us now what you think. I don't think Dante should die and I think those N Corp people are crazy' Meursault tells him he once thought about those things but never came to a conclusion. Heathcliff demands an answer now. Meursault asks again if he has to answer. He's here on a job, he will do what he's told. He RANTS basically about how all he needs to do is receive input for so long. Heathcliff asks if he's crazy, if he's got a chunk of metal in his brain like the N Corp folks. Meursault says he's composed normal (names percentages) and ends with "That is another difference." Heathcliff's face contorts in frustration.
I see this as Meursault doing that thing to get out of a situation where you just talk so much, so either factually or confusedly that the person you're talking to gets too lost/distracted to scold you. Heathcliff is truly throwing him a bone to show he doesn't need to be socially isolated because now he's different and Meursault is just parry-ing it.
Meursault is saved by Hong Lu conversationally.
(Meursault does not speak again until the end, when he tells Rodya Dante does not have a mouth [to eat a kebab with])
INTERVALLO I:
They grab the chicken guy together to have him taste test <3
Meursault is the nearest person to Heathcliff and gets the dish slapped into his face. Meursault then proceeds to list everything that's wrong with the dish.
When Meursault begins it goes
M: The…
H: The… What?
I believe this is Heathcliff coaxing. He has gotten to the point where seems to know (based on Canto III) that if he asks a question with Meursault, he'll get an answer.
Debatable that Heathcliff asking is why he lists everything wrong or if he just wanted to get a move on. It's honestly a very odd move from Meursault.
During Meursault's list, Heathcliff is the only one who speaks when not spoken to by him. He is the only one who points out that this is an odd move from Meursault. Twice! "… Have you gone loony? That what you have to say?" "One bloody moment, is he… possessed by something or?"
I don't believe what prompted him to say this is Meursault's knowledge on what he's saying, because Meursault very notably has been stating brief, definitive facts this early as well. It's most likely that he speaks the most here, and seemingly unprompted.
Once again Hong Lu ends the interaction (of Meursault telling everyone what they did wrong [not by name but by part of dish] BEFORE he can say Heathcliff or Gregor…presumably Hong Lu did not contribute so this only saved those two), by saying Meursault should lead them. Meursault says he prefers to not have assistants around.
We see everyone working under Meursault. Don Quixote, Yi Sang and then Heathcliff. Everyone is shown to be messing things up, besides Heathcliff who "gets extra points" from Meursault. He is so excited about this.
When the dish is tasted and said to miss passion in its perfection, Heathcliff says 'maybe the only thing distorted about this guy is his brain'. Probably just defensive over something he helped make.
CANTO IV:
To anyone who is crazy enough to read all of this. When Meursault is reciting the email to Ran where he says the iconic "Star, star, heart, heart, heart" he is just saying that. That's not a part of the email, as it is not quoted like everything else from that is.
Is he teasing them? Because at the beginning Dante says he doesn't need to recite that stuff and he says he'll dispose of unneccesary punctuation. And then does that. Ok.
And you know who responds? Heathcliff. Who says he doesn't need to say that stuff. Ok.
He then says it may be a cipher so he left it to Dante. However! It is not a quote!
CANTO V:
After it's revealed Heathcliff stole the hair coupons and Don Quixote asks why he did it, he says "I-I've got my reasons…"
Meursault then proceeds to comfort him(?!?) saying 'good news: There is basically noooo chance that The Middle's punishment will be different. Basically none. Even if you gave back the coupons' "Thus, keeping the coupons will make no difference to the outcome of this encounter, Heathcliff. They are now yours."
I think this is. The first time Meursault refers to anyone by name(???!!!!????!!!!). If it's not, then I will confidently say this is the first time he has addressed anyone by name.
INTERVALLO III-I:
When the gang get Don Quixote & Heathcliff back and Rodya promises to help him with his outfit he says "The outfit's one thing, yeah. But the… uh… "
Meursault chimes in that 'you are speaking of the portship we sailed past. The portship we passed where the hair salon for the coupons are. You could not use them as it was not a part of our route'
AND HERE IS HONG LU ONCE AGAIN (helpfully offering to do his hair! But Hong Lu your fujo spirit of appearing after so many of these)
Meursault, for whatever reason, finds it necessary to make sure Heathcliff is communicating what he wants. I believe at this point Heathcliff has shown to Meursault just how useful he is, like socially. Heathcliff is VERY much a glue for the LCB and just helped Ishmael chill the fuck out. He is emotional and brash and caring and feels, and fills everything Meursault cannot.
INTERVALLO III-II:
Don Quixote insists on saving Aeng-Du. Heathcliff goes 'nu-uh girl. What'd I say about the justice rubbish? This is a turf war. Neither are more honourable'
Meursault says "Agreed. It is no complicated mathematics to expect unnecessary allied casualties in this effort should we involve ourselves in this conflict." Ilysm but who asked. But also please do not let no one asking stop you from talking. Just why does this make you speak up? Don Quixote does relent, so it does work, but debatably because of Meursault. But sure, let's say it does.
There has not been a single point Meursault has actually disagreed with Heathcliff, except the whole I DON'T NEED TO THINK ABOUT PROSTETIC MORALS thing.
(Fun fact I realized at this point. Half of the shadow/outline in Meursault's portrait is partially transparent. No one else's is. I assume this plays into his sunlight themes or is an error)
CANTO VI:
At Nelly apologizing and Heathcliff going "Why… why are you sorry? What the hell are you sorry about?!" She's speechless and Meursault comes in.
"Heathcliff. I may have a correct assumption as to what this silence indicates. So I have no other choice but to tell you, as it is common courtesy to do so, that I am very sorry to hear that."
He does not explain! He just adresses him again and apologizes. DUDE.
I cannot and will not summarize Meursault being illogical for Heathcliff so I will just quote the conversation here
M: There have been a total of four separate instances of lightning strikes.
The most logical course of action, from the perspective of our company…
would have been to wait until the Golden Bough becomes available to us. Just as Linton had suggested earlier.
H: What, hide in the barn and wait for the seventh strike of lightning like cowards?
What a helpful lot you are. Thank you kindly for your words of encouragement. You know what? We should've done that from the start… It was foolish of me to even—
M: … Allow me to finish, Heathcliff(<-!!!). I am beginning to feel the need to practice hastening my speech.
We have experienced consistent escalation of risk merely by moving about the manor. Moreover, it is growing increasingly difficult to ensure Heathcliff's safety.
Therefore, in conclusion…
… I judged that we may have to stop the lightning from striking.
Even if that decision leads to our failure to obtain the Golden Bough.
This is stated to not be based off cold facts. Meursault is going against the company for Heathcliff and his safety. He also pauses a lot. God.
After this we fight Erlking. Meursault uses Binds of Others to stop him. I believe this is the first usage of an EGO unprompted.
INTERVALLO IV-I:
Not much to mention here tbh. Both Heathcliff and Meursault go 'you are not making sense' to time reaper. (Also Hong Lu mentions Meursault six times unprompted?)
INTERVALLO IV-II:
This is when Heathcliff "uses Meursault like a walking encyclopedia from time to time" Dante says they don't know when this started. Presumably around Canto III babe.
INTERVALLO V-II:
Ryōshū knocks out Heathcliff. Rodya asks him to carry him. "It will be done" ("Heathcliff […] fell forward right onto Meursault's welcoming shoulder.")
Dante tells Meursault to wake up Heathclifd and stand him up. "It will be done"
Surviving sweepers
H: Haah… whew… can we even handle the third wave at this rate?
M: There is no choice but to withstand it.
CANTO VIII:
Ishmael taunts Heathcliff, saying she thought he'd charge Lei Heng like with The Middle.
Heathcliff goes 'I know some things about the Thumb from my sybdicate days. And with the Middle, I didn't know who those coupons belonged to' "Besides, that sod…"
Meursault finishes for him "… Is more powerful and violent than Ricardo, an individual we had encountered in the past."
CANTO IX:
This is not actually relevant strictly by 5/7 interacting. However we do learn Meursault flat out stalked Vespa to meet him, presumably because he was interesting. I point this out because Meursault hovered around Heathcliff SO BAD in the beginning that I believe this was his stalker tendency again
INTERVALLO IX-I:
H: ... The name of the deceased... was...
<... It was Catherine's funeral. She was very dear to Heathcliff.>
M: I have thoroughly reviewed the past 5 years' worth of local newspapers pertaining to the matter, yet no such name relevant to the case was identified, Manager.
We know that T-Corp has 2 newspapers a day. That's 730 newspapers. And not just obituaries ("thoroughly reviewed", lack of saying obituaries)!
Hehe thanks if you read to the end!! I love these little freaks. Meursault so clearly has a tender spot for Heathcliff it's kinda crazy.

Here are all my April Fool's thoughts for Limbus, any additions will be reblogs
This is CLEARLY Dante shrinking down the sinners in their mind and giving them generic kid traits (speech impediments and no emotional regulation). Multiple discrepancies with multiple sinners. I assume this is done for omitting spoilers for the remaining sinner's cantos (GUYSS I would have loved to see actual child Meur but I'll be okay. As long as in the canto we see it).
Notable things to me: Faust & Outis' stumbles during their attack! Faust's skill saying she'll work on her balance!
Sinclair and Meursault's nd anger issues. Sinclair getting so upset and overwhelmed he begins looming and threatening. Meursault getting so upset he just explodes silently. Sweet that Outis tried to bail him out.
Dante's brain repeatedly rewriting how the Sinners are speaking to be childlike (Yi Sang and Faust are most obvious examples). Also Dante literally not being able to comprehend Meursault having a kid's voice. (Side note: I assume the VA was having difficulty being able to have a kid's voice for Meursault. Which is totally fair. Will probably not have a child Meur talking in his canto though).
Folks are saying the stages/classes coorelate to their ages? I do not understand how we know this. If someone can explain that I'd super appreciate it (I assume it's cultural differences)
