God, Jaime Lannister cared so fucking much what Brienne of Tarth thought of him. 15 years. Fifteen god damn years of being called the Kingslayer. His unofficial title, the way he’ll definitely be described in the White Book posthumously, states that he’s an oath breaker, that he killed his liege that he swore to protect. Never did he, not fucking once, defend himself from that title. Not once did he reveal that he was protecting Kings Landing from a cruel king. Not once did he justify his actions that paint him as, whether or not you give a fuck about the targs, a bad guy. A turncloak. An oath breaker. A man who was pardoned because of who he was to the new King. He didn’t give a fuck if people thought he was honorable or not.

And then Brienne of Tarth calls him Kingslayer to his face. He can’t stand that, and it’s not long before he’s revealing his motivations to her. He dreams about her. He gifts her a priceless sword called Oathkeeper. He cares so so much about her opinion of him. He fixates on his honor after they part ways and he probably hopes that word of his honorable actions, his refusal to spill Tully blood, reaches the ears of the Maid of Tarth.

if I think about it too much I go completely buckwild at "Father give her strength" because it's just raw, unfiltered Jaime completely tired and in pain and suffering and mourning and he just lost his father because he saved his brother and he's standing there trying to do the right thing again and he's worrying about the guys hunting Tyrion down and then, amidst this clusterfuckery Brienne pops in his mind and he's like "that fucking stubborn woman" and then he prays, he prays, something he doesn't do for anyone else, and he prays to the father, is that the god or his dad? who cares, certainly not Jaime, maybe both, but so long as she can defend herself, so long as she can move forward, hold herself, she'll be safe, and he needs her to be safe, please keep her safe, he's losing everyone and everything, please give her the strength to keep herself safe, and I'm just a dumbass but holy shit the sheer love of that instinct, because he's done everything he can to help her, and when he feels the most helpless, he prays so she's capable to move on if she finds herself feeling the same and I *sigh*

‘what’ he prays for kills me. “father give her strength” because he so totally accepts brienne for who she is. he doesn’t want to change her. he just wants her to have the strength to do what she set out to do. raw is the only word for it, because that shit comes from the bone just straight from the marrow. 

people talk about brienne deserving better and i’m just like jesus fucking christ she deserves the one person in the world who’s just like: welp, here she is. this is what she is. i just want her to be the best most powerful version of *this* that she can be
