1. The Couch Cushion Rule: At home, a regular sofa is never utilized as intended. No matter how large or expansive their living room sectional is, Jack treats it as a single-person seating arrangement the second Y/N walks into the room. If she tries to sit on the opposite end to fold laundry or check her phone, Jack will pat his lap with an expectant, non-negotiable look. The moment she sits down, his large hands immediately lock onto her waist or hips, hauling her flush against his chest like she weighs nothing at all.
2. The House Party Anchor: When they attend neighborhood gatherings or house parties with friends, Jack is unfailingly polite, holding a beer and making conversation. But he operates as a human anchor tied directly to Y/N. Whenever they find a spot on a crowded couch or patio bench, his heavy arm wraps securely around her waist, keeping her securely pinned to his lap. If she tries to stand up to grab a drink or chat with someone else, his fingers will naturally slide down to trace her hip or catch the hem of her shirt, murmuring a quiet, possessive, "Where are you going, sweetheart? Stay right here."
3. The Kitchen Island Perch: While Jack is chopping vegetables or waiting for water to boil for dinner, Y/N often sits casually on the edge of the kitchen counter. Jack considers this the ideal ergonomic height. He will immediately step between her knees, place both hands firmly on her hips, and lean his weight against her, resting his chin on her shoulder. Even if he only needs one hand to stir a pan, the other hand remains glued to her waist, thumb idly tracing circles through her shirt.
4. The Unconscious Hair-Tinkering: Jack's hands are almost never still when Y/N is sitting in his lap. While he's talking to someone across the room or watching a movie, his long fingers will automatically drift up to her hair. He loves absentmindedly twisting small strands around his fingers, running his palm over the nape of her neck, or gently massaging her scalp. If she leans back against his chest, he'll use both hands to frame her face or tuck loose hairs behind her ear, completely absorbed in the texture of her hair.
5. The Movie Night Human Blanket: Whenever they settle in for a weekend movie marathon, Y/N doesn't even bother grabbing her own blanket. Jack pulls her backward onto his lap, draping the heavy throw blanket over both of them. He wraps his arms completely around her torso, burying his face in the crook of her neck. Because Jack runs naturally warm, Y/N acts as his preferred personal heat source, and he'll spend two hours lazily tracing slow, soothing patterns across her palms and fingers while they watch.
6. The Interlocking Finger Habit: When they are sitting together at a backyard barbecue or a casual dinner party with friends, Jack will pull Y/N onto his lap sideways, her legs draped over his thighs. With one hand firmly anchoring her hip to keep her secure, he takes her opposite hand in his, lacing their fingers together. He loves playing with her rings or gently rubbing his thumb over her knuckles, using the constant tactile contact to ground himself even in a room full of people.
7. The "Too Far" Reflex: If they are sitting side-by-side on a barstool or a tight bench and someone bumps into Y/N or the seating shifts, Jackās protective reflex activates instantly. He will slide his hand around her waist and physically haul her back flush against his side, murmuring pet names like honey or baby right against her temple. To Jack, any physical distance greater than zero inches between them in a social setting is entirely unacceptable.
8. The Quiet Kitchen Corner: At late-night gatherings when people start winding down and congregating in the kitchen, Jack will pull a bar stool into a quiet corner, sit down, and immediately pull Y/N down onto his lap before anyone else can claim the seat. Safe from the noise of the room, he'll wrap his arms tight around her waist, rest his forehead against her shoulder, and close his eyes, completely content to just hold her while letting the rest of the party fade into background noise.
This is what I meant by how a lot of white supremacy is projection.
"I feel like my penis/my Manhood as a symbol is smaller than Black man's" becomes "Black men have oversized penises and are sexually insatiable beasts."
"I am sexually attracted to, fetishizing, and feel entitled to Black women's bodies" becomes "well she's asking for it, look at how she looks, Black women are always more openly sexual."
"I am afraid of approaching Black men" becomes "Black men are a threat."
"I am afraid of approaching Black women" becomes "Black women are always angry."
"I am not smart enough/not qualifed enough/can't beat my white counterparts professionally" becomes "DEI and affirmative action are letting those Blacks steal my position in school/jobs!"
Your own fears and insecurities about yourself somehow become a reflection of my humanity, when it had nothing to do with anything. And somehow enough people think that and now it's systemic instead of the made up nonsense it always was. Ijeoma Oluo called it mediocrity, James Baldwin called racism the white man's problem, and they remain correct.
