The new EHRC Code of Practice pushes trans people out of toilets, hospital wards, and community spaces. It normalises gender policing based on appearance and stereotypes. It becomes statutory guidance in the UK by the end of June.
Trans people are now legally their assigned gender at birth and must join gendered spaces accordingly, but if they are perceived as their lived gender, they can also be ejected from those spaces. The guidance says: either break the law, or don’t pass too well.
A mass lobby is where you invite your MP to discuss your concerns with you in-person. Ask your MP to:
Demand full parliamentary scrutiny, debate, and use their free vote on the EHRC Code of Practice.
Support any motions rejecting the EHRC guidance. As of June 4th, Labour MP Nadia Whittome has submitted a prayer motion - Early Day Motion 240.
Write to Bridget Phillipson, the Minister for Women and Equalities about our concerns
Your MP does not have to be an ally, they do not have to respond to your email for you to show up and greencard them (details below the cut.) What matters is that as many people as possible show up.
I cannot stress this enough: Showing up in person matters. It is much more effective than petitions, emails, and letters.
It is a horrible, stressful time, and I am so sorry if you're trans and live in the UK. But I was at last year's mass lobby and the line for greencarding alone stretched around the back gates. Bring your personal worries about transphobia being signed into law, and trans friends being excluded from public spaces. You are a living person who deserves dignity. Remind your MP of that. Got a refusal or no response from your MP?
Come anyway! You can request a same-day appointment with your MP through a process called greencarding. They will come and see you if they’re already in Parliament. Even if they don’t, they’re made acutely aware of your cause because you showed up in person. This is my greencard from last year.
Here is the EHRC Code of Practice in full. It's a tough read, but some highlights are:
Organisations can’t provide trans-inclusive, single-sex services, or they risk being sued for discrimination.
e.g. domestic violence support for women including trans women, men’s rugby group including trans men (12.68).
Trans people will have nowhere safe to pee.
If you’re a trans man, businesses can't allow you to pee in the men's, and you can also be ejected from women’s bathrooms if you’re perceived as a man. Vice versa for trans women. EHRC suggests a ‘third space’ bathroom, which is discriminatory and unworkable for most businesses. (13.130-133)
Sports organisations must exclude trans people from single-sex competitions (13.73).
A women’s only sports competition must exclude trans women because of their biological advantage or face potential lawsuits (13.74), but a trans man who has undergone testosterone treatment can also be excluded based on fairness rules (13.81).
Trans women are stripped of the legal definition of ‘lesbian’, and therefore no longer have legal protections if they’re discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation. (2.50, 2.92).

Analyzing the politics of a work that's meant to be apolitical is actually a really interesting exercise because it asks you to critically examine what the creator considers to be "political" in the first place. Which ideas are just How Things Are, and which ones are Political, and how is that influenced by the creator's beliefs?
Angrily lashing out at the suggestion that it's possible to do basic media analysis was foundational to the ragebait ecosystem of the 2010s, from which we got basically the entire culture of modern far right politics, btw.
I went outside and got an education, that's where I learned that you can obtain knowledge and insight through analytical methods, then noticed that some people who sit on the internet yelling at strangers get really mad about that constantly.
So actually if you really wanted to use your analysis skills you'd realize that what people are annoyed about is the implication that there's never a story or creative work they can create that can escape people like you attempting to assign political meaning to it when they just don't want that. That in fact people's presumptions about life are not, in fact, political (at best they are cultural, which is not an inherently facet of politics). And that by you people arrogantly pushing this idea you are intruding on the fact that a lot of people use fiction as escapism from politics and insisting that "urm no actually your favourite cartoon actually has politics cause no human being is 100% unbiased" is in fact, supremely fucking annoying
"Stop having fun wrong, it ruins my fun when you have fun wrong, it's not enough for me to just scroll past the analysis I don't like, if anyone anywhere is saying that the cartoon exists in a political context that's undermining my enjoyment of it!"
If your "fun" involves deliberately and knowingly doing something that annoys and irritates people then yes you are having fun wrong, its also not just about you doing analysis; if it was just that you can do that in your head, but you don't, you insist upon other people and upon their work when its clearly not welcome or appreciated. Keep your thoughts to yourself

Two days ago, I was shocked to find that my blog, abdalsalam2000, had been deleted without warning and without me having done anything wrong, simply because I was asking for help from the Tumblr community. That blog was our only source of income that kept us alive in Gaza, and unfortunately, it was deleted by Tumblr employees.

According to the Covington Police Department, Murry Foust was last seen on April 27, captured on surveillance footage in the city’s Latonia neighborhood walking down a sidewalk wearing a yellow backpack. Friends of the student told local ABC affiliate WCPO that Foust was planning to go to class but left their phone at home. The backpack was later found on campus, per WCPO. Charlie King, a close friend of Foust’s, noted in a Facebook post that Foust’s car was found a block from their apartment in Latonia.
The CPD and most media sources currently refer to Foust using they/them pronouns. In response to a request for comment from Them seeking clarity on how Foust identified, an NKU spokesperson referred to social media posts made by friends of the student.
Those posts note Foust is a trans man early in his transition who uses he/they pronouns. (In the interest of facilitating the search, we will mention here that Foust’s legal name is Alexis.)
“I encourage people to respect that,” King wrote in a follow-up to his initial post, referring to Foust’s he/they pronouns. “I frankly don’t really give a shit what you insist on calling him though; I care that he is found and people are looking out for them.”

Disclaimer that I haven’t been Catholic for a LONG time, so this may be out of date or misremembered. Also that ALL OF THIS DOESN’T STOP THE CC FROM DOING MISOGYNY. I AM NOT SAYING IT CAN’T DO THAT.
Going to be a bit nitpicky and say that Mary is VERY much considered Important and Divine in Catholicism so this.. isnt quite accurate.
A bit more Protestant of a take, if you don’t mind me getting Sectarian about it (Marialatry was one of their complaints and they revere Mary a lot less)
☝️ However, some interpretations of her birth and actions actually distance her FROM womanhood, or present her as an idealized form of Womanhood (Mary Magalene is more approachable as a Woman-Saint Who Has Fucked Up and was popular partly for that)
This is VERY much visible in the Game as the protagonist is explicity described as an Ideaized Woman who is Powerful And Strong And Blessed. Partly by her child, yeah
Anyway, Mary is (according to tradition):
- represented by (deepbreath) a Blue mantle, a crown of 12 stars, a pregnant woman, roses, a woman with child, a woman trampling a serpent, a crescent moon, a woman clothed with the sun, a heart pierced by a sword and rosary beads
So look for those, I guess. There are also depictions of her beating the SHIT out of the Devil, which i like
- Associated with the Ocean as the ‘Star of the Sea’ that grants salvation to Sailors
- born without Sin (she’s actually the immaculate conception, not Jesus. Jesus specifically exists because of her actions, mythologically)
- gained divine favour due to consenting to Pregnancy and God’s will (in some myths she actually avoids all the pain of pregnancy due to being born without Eve’s curse. Idk if people still believe that though)
- Literally never died but got yoinked up to Heaven (very rare) and became The Queen of Heaven
- still subordinate to God and Jesus (she’s an ex-human like every other Saint even if she’s The Biggest One)
- people in the Medieval ages revered her SO much that the church started to complain that she was getting too much devotion compared to God or even Jesus
..with this partly being how she, as wife of God and Queen of Heaven, was believed to hold sway over God and Jesus to an extent as their Wife/Mother.
- There is definitely something to be said about The Virgin Mary is interpreted in a Motherly lens, but often has the pain of childbirth underplayed (someone actually made a statue of her that displayed her in Childbirth and. lol. That Did Not Go Down Well), and how her divinity is tied to Gender Roles and Pregnancy as Baby Generator to an extent, but I wouldn’t say that people don’t acknowledge her role as Mother of God

Monday, May 25th: Hello, everyone. I'm Gem, and I am trying to set up a crowdfunding campaign for my sister Cheryl, as Universal Credit recently sanctioned her for 91 days, and she needs urgent help to survive the coming months.
My sister, who is in her 30s and autistic, recently caught the flu. While she was unwell, her unemployment advisor requested that she submit her CV for a job application. Unfortunately, due to her illness, this important task slipped her mind, and she ended up applying a few days later than expected. As a result, she has been sanctioned for 91 days, until July 15th, leaving her with a minimal welfare payment of just £7 for the entirety of May and June. (Photos above for details)
This is clearly not sufficient to cover her bills or purchase groceries. There are resources available for my sister to explore, such as the local food bank and the Scottish Welfare Fund. However, it’s important to note that she can apply for the SWF only three times within a year and cannot cite the same reason for assistance in consecutive applications. For instance, if she needs help with her bills now, she wouldn’t be able to use that same reason for her next application next month.
Thankfully, U.C will still pay her rent while under the benefit sanction. However, she is currently facing financial difficulties and lacks the funds to pay her other bills. She has an outstanding balance of £189.73 for her utilities, and an additional £214.91 in other direct debits, for which evidence can be provided.
I know this is a lot to ask, but if anyone could spare any amount to help my sister get by, even if it’s just £1/$1/€1, it would mean a lot, and sharing helps just as much.
