On the subject of the Comicfrin Change God:
How would Mirabelle react if she learned about the entire situation?
I mean realistically I dont think Change God would ever reveal that to anyone but if they did... well, I feel like Mirabelle would naturally have an existential crisis about it??
Suddenly your literal god is just another version of your friend who lost their mind and reshaped the world to make it possible for her to kill the King?? But also it is not your friend anymore it is a god that absolutely rejects their previous identity??
In a way, Change God is the ultimate example of capital C Change i suppose. I think with time Mirabelle would eventually make peace with it but Change God would only tell her that in their special white space so she'd forget before it can happen.
Her heart would remember though, and she'd always feel something tugging in the back of her mind whenever interacting with Siffrin... hopefully it'll pass!
One aspect of "The Universe leads, we can only follow" that I keep thinking about is how wish craft fits into it.
On the surface, that sentence seems to mean that Islanders believed in some sort of destiny created by the Universe. Or at least, a philosophy encouraging them to accept whatever comes their way in life. Yet the Islanders seemed to freely and often use wish craft*, something that, at its core, is about changing stuff in your life.
(*Siffrin notes this when praying to the Change God for the first time. "It's considered lazy to just ask for stuff here." Implying that it was a fact of life that you could, and should, just ask for stuff. There was (seemingly) no taboo about it. "Seemingly" because we need to keep in mind that Siffrin was cut off from his culture at a young age, so some nuance they might have learned about later in life was probably lost.)
Anyway, using wish craft to basically change your destiny daily while using "we can only follow" as a mantra feels a bit contradictory!
So my interpretation of this sentence kinda shifted overtime in my mind, and now I'm convinced it is precisely about wish craft, actually.
Wish craft is a manifestation of the Universe. If you ask a favor to the Universe, you can't contest Its answer. However unpredictable. However constraining. Furthermore, if the Universe decided of a way to solve your problem, then this answer has a meaning and you should seek to understand this meaning.
At least, a majority of Islanders probably believed so, as examplified by Siffrin and King trying to find meaning to the way the Universe answered their wish. Siffrin resenting It in act 5, King taking his new powers as an express order to enact his plan.
But like all religions, I like to think that it wasn't a monolith, and maybe some Islanders would take a less antropomorphised approach to wish craft, where the unpredictability is a matter of random chance and less about the Universe having a will. Either way, I think it still fits the mantra.
Whatever the Universe decided to provide, you have to live with it. Whether or not you believe It had a specific reason for giving you this specific solution.
walks in here. looks at you with my big ol eyes. consider sloopis ? i was debating between isaloop and sifloop then realized I could do both and loop gets the double the love
hello this took me a bit Yay sloopis!!!

if you want to hear more siffrin gender headcanons...i think in another world they would feel comfortable being more fluid in their gender, but they've sort of committed to their current presentation + pronouns and don't feel the need to change it up because why would they when they're already fine? i think he also might feel a bit stubborn about not changing his gender identity pre timeloops because one thing he knows about himself is he is Not Vaugardian and is afraid if he Changes with a capital C he will be severing his ties to his own culture, whatever that is. he doesn't realize he feels this way until post canon when loop starts experimenting with different pronouns and body craft, and siffrin feels...confused, betrayed even. i have thought this ever since i read the artbook and became enamored with the idea of she/her loop (at first going by that to spite siffrin/her past self, then realizing she actually likes it, meanwhile siffrin is like "NEVER under any circumstances should anyone use she/her for me, what are you doing loop!!!")
Yes exactly Siffrin values their current state over most potential changes, because their body and clothes are like, all they have! What if they don't recognize themself afterwards? What if they change something important and don't realize until it's too late to get it back??
And while on one hand sometimes you do need to push yourself outside of your comfort zone to find the place you're happiest, sometimes it's comfortable because it is what makes you happiest, or sometimes holding onto the comfort is necessary until you feel more secure in general. I think he will end up making some changes eventually but to really be happy with it he needs a lot of time and space and security to consider it, take a gradual spaced-out pace, and get used to it.
meanwhile loop needs to claw off their skin and mold it into something new of their own choosing YESTERDAY!! they don't have anything comfortable left to hold onto even if they wanted to!!! it will still take them a little time to be brave enough to risk recognizing and going after what they want, but like you said with the spite they'll get some jumpstarts when they have another excuse, and once they allow it it's gonna be radical.
Lift a Beau !
Isa youre crushing on a sweaty dance instructor
I think a lot about how Isabeau was doing during the Eye Incident...
There's moments in the game he treats Siffrin so tenderly…it made me wonder…
loopdile so real. i have a Vision of both siffrin and loop being Deeply Deeply Closeted Repressed Transfem and having gender envy over odile and i feel like that'd do Something to the Dynamic. Something......... Something........................... well i'm not successfully envisioning it but maybe YOU are?
i am positively plagued by loopdile gender visions!!! maybe not the exact same as you're thinking but i think you will enjoy them. walk with me, anon, through the garden of my loop gender headcanons. it's kind of a big garden but we'll get to the odile part eventually i promise.
Before they were Siffrin, Siffrin had their gender on lock: something transfem, but also tied to unique cultural elements in some way, either the specific identity or the way of thinking about it or just the particular set of presentation options. Perhaps they even started fantasy HRT! But then they forget everything, obviously, including their identity and transition plans. They decide pretty quickly that they're not a man, but none of the alternatives feel exactly correct either; if their previous identity was presented as an option, maybe it would click and they'd settle into it pretty fast, but unfortunately that is literally impossible.
So, no clear goals in mind. And because of his forgotten past, continued memory problems, and constant traveling, Siffrin starts to really value the few things he can count on to stay consistent. He'd rather wear his comfortable hat and cloak than leave them behind in favor of anything more gendered. He'd rather stick with his familiar body than risk changing it. Still, maybe there are some changes he'd be happier in the long run to have made... but the process would be stressful, and he's got enough stressful things to worry about already!
But then we get to Loop. Who has already been changed, suddenly and irrevocably and so very, very accidentally. They are not Siffrin anymore, they do not have the hat and cloak, they aren't even human. They don't even really remember who they were pre-loops. There is no familiarity for them to cling to; instead, they're desperate to find things they can control, things they can change, proof that the world moves forward and they're in charge of their place in it. The motivation that Siffrin lacked, Loop now has in spades!
However, their negative feelings are more intense as well. They struggle to face real stakes, to put effort into anything too complicated, to try anything that might disappoint them. They take risks, yes, but not about things they care about; they take risks because they don't care. And they have a lot of other things going on, too, both practically and psychologically, so gender isn't their immediate priority. "Who and what am I?" is a very difficult question for them right now on multiple levels, a difficult question with only difficult answers.
But, starting with the practical: wearing clothes is an easy way to look and feel a little bit more normal, right? So they experiment, and they decide that dresses are just similar enough to the cloak to be comfortable, but distinct enough to not be as emotionally fraught. And they like them in a frivolous way that Siffrin was never willing to lean all the way into. Siffrin didn't put much thought or energy into his appearance, but Loop's inhuman form is a constant issue, so they might as well dress it in a way they like! Something good to balance out the bad, since they can't be neutral any longer.
And of course they think about body craft, though in a different context from most people. Even the nearly-human parts of their body are lacking detail, without all the right functions behind the form, and then other parts aren't human at all. Their body feels wrong, distracting, constricting. They don't understand how it works, and it draws attention they don't want, and it's not them. And yet, isn't it? Even if they'd been put back into a Siffrin body again, they aren't Siffrin anymore, either. Loop is what the loops made them. They want to change their body, to make it something they can be comfortable in, but they can't. Because body craft is a method of changing flesh and blood and bone, and Loop is not made of such human stuff anymore.
So we've got Loop. Trying to find themself, and maybe succeeding in some ways, but stymied or uncertain in others. Desperate to change, but scared to hope. To make a long story short, they join back up with the party, which brings its own set of problems, and yet... it's also a step towards fixing some of their problems, too. Most relevant to our post, here: Odile is a craft expert with a unique set of experiences. She's got a wide foundation of knowledge, since she's familiar with all three main craft types. She used to be part of Ka Bue's underground body-crafting scene, where she not only crafted her own body but also helped and taught other people; and unlike in Vaugarde, where Houses provide resources and education, Odile and her peers had to do their own research and experiments, develop their own techniques. She even has some knowledge of wish craft from Siffrin, and the way she stopped Siffrin from looping proves that she's unusually good at analyzing and adapting to new forms of craft.
So once Loop's dissatisfaction with and ignorance regarding their own physical form comes to Odile's attention, of course she offers to help. To see if she can figure out what their body is made of, and how it works, and hopefully, in what ways it can be changed.
And this dynamic with her... it's totally different from her relationship with Siffrin, both pre-loops and post. And Loop has always admired her, and here she is, talking about the confidence and determination with which she changed her own body, not without fear or frustration but not letting herself be slowed down by them, either. Taking her fate into her own hands and refusing to be anyone other than herself. And Loop used to feel that Odile understood them best, and losing that connection felt like the end of the world, but here she is, still! Observant and caring as ever. Dedicated to figuring them out again. Unflinching as she sees them for the strange thing they currently are, but equally unshakable in her insistence that they do not have to stay exactly as they are.
So Odile helps them figure out their body. Helps them with the craft itself, too, but even more than that — through both encouragement and example, she helps them be brave enough to genuinely try. To ask themself what they really want. To strike a balance between Siffrin's complacent hesitation and Loop's miserable desperation. To experiment, and face both the chance of failure and the chance of success with head held high. To hope.
Odile is not one for platitudes and empty positivity, after all. If she says something's possible, then it is, or she will make it so, one way or another, despite any setback. Isn't she proof? She remade herself, and she can remake Loop, too. Changing them, slowly and carefully and so very, very deliberately. Loop will never be human again, but they can decide who they are and become themself.
Wraith Mira pls pls pls
mirabelle voice i bet haunting is so fun if you’re the ghost 🤩
do you ever think about how bad isat characters' outfits would look if one had colour vision to look at them with? horribly mismatched clothes, and they don't even know...... unless everybody threw out coloured fabrics or purposefully swapped dyes for shadeless ones post-colour-loss but that's less funny
anon. i think about this SO often. because ☝️ i don’t think they would clash much at all!
i’m not exactly a fashion history student so i might be wrong on some details, but afaik, the most easily obtained dyes are plant-based and tend towards warm earthy tones — lots of greens and browns, yellows and reds, maybe even soft pinks and purples. things like rich blue and bright magenta were a lot more difficult to obtain, so if those dyes look no different from other colors, there’d be no reason to obtain them. and while isat tech level is inconsistent enough that i might otherwise be willing to grant them easy access to bright modern colors — hand waving it as the result of magic — there would be no reason to develop (or continue teaching/learning) that craft when no one can see the difference!
instead of hue, dye would probably be chosen for its darkness and its colorfastness on different fabrics — but mostly you’d use the cheapest and easiest option for each use case. so there would probably still be a bit of variety in the types of dyes people usually use, with even more variance across geographic areas depending on which plants grow there. but not nearly as much variety as irl!
you mention throwing out old fabrics, but color was lost to isatworld so long ago that the fact that it even used to exist is a recent re-discovery, so pre-greyscale fabrics and dyes probably would’ve been long-since used and lost. there might be the occasional historical piece, like old tapestries in a castle, or clothes that have been carefully preserved, but i would guess that any everyday clothes that are being actively handed down and seeing regular use woulda gotten worn down to rags a while ago. clothes used to be way more durable than they are today, but “so long ago that history has mostly forgotten” is a very long time ago! even if magic played some part in the forgetting, surely we’re still talking at least a couple generations. the one exception i can think of that would hold up that long would be jewelry, which might have richly colored gemstones.
so! atp, people would mostly be wearing plant-based earth tones. which, there are some combos that look better, but even the not-as-good combos would be quite unlikely to clash the same way an outfit randomly selected from walmart might. people might have pops of color from jewelry, but in such small amounts against an otherwise fairly neutral palette, they’d probably usually look fine, if a bit eclectic.
i’m having trouble researching what dyes are the most readily available, because most sites will tell you the best way to get each color, without as much comparison between which color is the easiest to work with. but whatever the easiest and most effective choices are, people would use those whenever possible. so there will probably just be 2-3 colors that are used for almost everything in a region, divided by fabric type and/or darkness. and even when you are aiming for a variety of color, easy natural dyes still have a pretty cohesive palette, as shown below. so whatever those 2-3 colors are — perhaps even 4-5 with trading — i’m fairly confident that they’ll look, at the very least, fine.
happy mirabelle monday <3
i hc that baby siffrin had their gender on LOCK, figured the fuck out, extremely happy with their presentation and sense of self and any physical transition plans! and then when he forgot the island he forgot his gender too and it's been a much longer and shakier path figuring it out again </3
