ya’ll its 4:30am and i’m suffering  spock is so damn important to jim (and his characterization)  like??  this bond he shares with him fundamentally changes him as a person and you can see that happen throughout the films  (even more so with the older films / tos series).  spock gives kirk a sense of stability and emotional grounding that he’s so often lacked in his life , while kirk aids in giving spock a sense of freedom with emotion and allows him to no longer be ashamed to feel , and in fact encourages this raw human side of him .  it’s all so important  they’re so important to each other  and none of ya’ll can change my mind it’s rIGHT THERE IN CANON

Okay, I’m gonna throw down some shade at all the people who portray my child James Tiberius Kirk as a one dimensional, sex obsessed, womanizing jock type.

You. Are. So. Fucking. Wrong.

Not even just by TOS standards, either. AOS Jim is a WORLD CLASS friend. And captain. And he’s a goddamn genius who was capable of hacking a program designed by a VULCAN. He likes sex, sure, but he hardly makes that unknown. Who’s to say there weren’t men thrown in there? And really, it’s easy to see he walks into these encounters completely upfront with, “hey let’s have a good time, but a good time is all this is.” Remember that Gaila talks about their arrangement with Uhura.

And let’s talk about him as a captain. He takes risks that seem reckless, but you can see the wheels turning in his head. He makes calculated risks. He has already plotted through ten different possible conclusions by the time Bones is done tearing him a new asshole. He knows his shit. There’s a reason Christopher Pike is so keen on his pseudo-son. He recognizes that shit.

I think I’ve made my point already, but seriously! Stop ruining an amazing character by boiling him down to one aspect that you’re not even laying on the table with the proper context.

I GET SO FUCKING MAD. And it’s literally the ONLY thing people focus on. Not the literature nerd that comes with TOS Jim, or the total and complete dedication both incarnations of him exhibit toward his friends and crew, or that whether TOS or AOS he’s literally a tactical genius.

And TOS Kirk? Womanizing? I just can’t even with that thought process. He has short-term relationships with his fair share of women, but they’re never casual and he remembers ALL of them fondly. And they do the same for him. Carol Marcus in TOS? She had a fricken KID with this dude that she raised alone and had literally nothing but good things to say about him.

Okay, I think I’m actually done now. Maybe. Probably not.
