Aroace culture is not finding beauty in the concept of romantic/sexual relationships but finding so much quiet beauty in everything else. In the way of how streams and rivers sound and move, in the way of how the sky turns deep sapphire blue just before the sunrise hits the horizon. How people have an inherent connection to each other, whether it be people from everywhere in the world bonding over their cats being silly, somebody helping a stranger they’ve never met by holding a door open for them, or giving things to them if they’re unable to get it themselves, how friends will lift each other up when somebody is having a bad day, the sheer empathy people show time and time again that they have for each other. How people will connect with and form bonds with creatures that aren’t even the same species as us because we’re just like that. The concept of imagination and just being able to create whole worlds and images and stories in your head. Dreams and nostalgia. The way birds sing and how it’s just a way they communicate with each other but it still sounds like music. How plants and animals and the ground and sky and everything is so gorgeous all on its own because it just is. How everything and everyone on large scale functions as part of a whole. I think that’s beautiful
This ended up being much longer than I expected it to be and maybe it’s a little cheesy but I think about it a lot

Superboy!
I love Kon’s jacket from the 90’s- the punk vibe is delightful
First time doing acrylics in a minute, so I had quite a bit of fun with this piece 😁
So…….I read “Into the Drowning Deep” by Mira Grant
FANTASTIC book 10/10
(Anglerfish, folklore, science, QUEER science- it’s amazing)
Had to visualize the mermaids
Not perfect (the face and hair could be a LOT better tbh😬)
But I think a solid first attempt :)
i've been binging your writing and im hooked omg. i rlly want to read more of the batfam (esp) jason and damian in the loa, what's your required reading list for the actual dc comics?
dignriajfjg i would never have a required reading list of canon material ESPECIALLY in relation to the stuff i make up, i promise you everything i say is most likely ooc or complete bullshit because i treat these characters like my personal barbie dolls just mindlessly spinnin around in my head on a constant basis. but if you’re looking for recs based on what i read, i read whatever i can physically get my hands on because i prefer reading comics and mangas in person rather than online, and i enjoy them less because i think they’re objectively good and i agree with all the choices canon dc writers make, and more because. fuck it, content is content. just because the storyline isn’t what i’d look for in a fic doesn’t mean the dialogue isn’t entertaining.
with that in mind i very much enjoy the new 52 red hood comics, and the red hood and arsenal series. robins being robin was cool, and i REALLY liked juni ba’s ‘the boy wonder’ (special mention bcs that was a birthday gift from my amazon wishlist that touched my heart) i have read it like three times. honestly anything that has adult nightwing and red hood interacting is always funny but specifically their dynamic in Nightwing: brothers in blood will always be fucking hysterical to me. the robin war and we are robin books were very good, and HOLY SHIT I FORGOT ABOUT GOTHAM WAR. THE BATMAN/CATWOMAN GOTHAM WAR WAS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE RUNS the family humor/angst in it was very enjoyable to me, jason got really fucked up and it gave us the eternally great ‘im a distraction!’ panel. also—not completely batfamily centric so might be a weird pull? i quite liked the dawn of dc knight terrors stuff. that’s all i can directly name off the top of my head rn (i used to just read random borrowed comics without bothering to pay attention to the rest of the run because apparently i have no issue with having no fucking context if the pictures are cool and the characters are sarcastic enough) so uh, i hope if you are looking for recs that there’s something you enjoy in there!

I know i've said it before, but if you are concerned it could be real and not a scam, the best way to avoid getting scammed is to return contact separately.
Here's how that works:
say you get a text from your internet provider, let's say it's Comcast (whom i hate). So you have this text that says it's from Comcast about your bill with a contact number and a clickable link -- could be real, could be a scam.
Don't touch anything about this text. Open a web browser and look up the customer service number for Comcast. Or get the number from the bill they send you. However you do it, get the contact info for Comcast from a trusted source, like an official phone directory or the Comcast website itself.
Get in touch with them using that information.
So. Let's run the example both ways it could go.
If it IS a scam: you reach out to Comcast and tell them you were contacted about a problem with your bill, they look you up in their customer database, and they tell you there is no problem with your bill.
If it's NOT a scam, you do the same thing, they look you up, and they explain the problem. In this case, neither Comcast nor the employees involved give a single shit whether or not you clicked the link in the text vs. going through their official website.
This works the same for the your bank, the IRS, Amazon, political causes, charities, everything.
By handling any questionable incoming calls to action this way, you significantly protect yourself from scams and malware and shit

it’s really so silly bc when I was a very sad teenager I dreamed of my adult life as this beautiful, easy thing where I dance in my kitchen and have game nights with my friends and I travel around to see the world and I create things left and right and I follow my heart and find a community that welcomes me readily as I embrace them
And then I grew up and it turns out the world is going to shit and there’s a class war everywhere and my livelihood is under constant threat because I wasn’t lucky enough to be born into generational wealth and climate change is coming fast and god, the powerful are so selfish and and and- and yet, I do still dance in my kitchen. Sometimes my cat asks to be picked up and I sway around in a made up waltz with her tucked into my arms. (This is one of her favorite activities)
I play card games and gossip and watch movies with my friends every few Saturdays even though we’re all overworked and exhausted. i create things in the pockets of time between sleep and work and sometimes I create while I’m at work and I race home to finish it with a childlike sort of excitement. I’ve seen very little of the world but it’s still more than most of my family has. and these things are still just as wonderful as I dreamed they’d be, it’s just that they’re grounded firmly in a reality that’s harder to thrive in.
it makes me sad, because I feel like a lot of people are grappling with how much more difficult it is these days to create a life you survived for. And it can feel sometimes like it was all for nothing- all that stubborn determination to stay alive and keep trying, keep going got us to a world on fire, with all the folks who could do anything about it shrugging and saying no, nothing can be done, it’s too late, it’s just how things are.
Except it isn’t. There will always be dancing, there will always be companionship, there will always be room for hope. It’s never useless to hope for a better life. It’s never useless to believe it can be.
My teenage self wasn’t wrong about that.

i used to be of the “if i could time travel i’d see the first-ever showing of hamlet” ilk and i still respect that crowd. but i must be honest with myself: i’m not standing upright in a crowd for four fucking hours. what i actually want is to go back in time and see the first-ever showing of shakespeare’s king lear so i can experience the exact moment when the crowd started to realize this play was not going to end the same way as any fairy-tales or myths of king leir had led them to believe. i can only imagine the energy in the globe at that moment but i think if i could capture and bottle it i could synthesize the first ever Crack That Makes You Kill Yourself
