Songs that keep me up at night

Light by Sleeping At Last

“I will soften every edge. I’ll hold the world to its best.”

I don’t have any children and I’m no where near the age acceptable to have children, but this song ages me about 15-20 years. The light airy ness of the voice feels so full of hope for the child being referenced’s future and the build up leading up to the chorus is just so full of passion that it’s addicting.

Medicine by Daughter

“You’ve got a second chance, you could go home. Escape it all, it’s just irrelevant.”

I was on YouTube on a dance video binge when I came across this wonderful depiction of a man and woman both consumed by eachother’s obssesion and desire for one other. The woman seemed to be a personification of drugs or “medicine” as the song refers to it as and the duo push and pull at one another. After rewatching the video several times I decided to look for the song and its lyrics. This song keeps me up at night because of the hauntingly beautiful voice of the singer as she seems to be having an eternal battle within herself.

Across the Universe by the Beatles

This song makes me vision entrapment. Whether it be entrapement in a relationship or lifestyle or situation. The lyric “ Nothing’s gonna change my world” makes me feel like I’m in a position I don’t to be in, but because I’m either too scared to leave (or in too deep to leave) I’m stuck. Therefore nothing can change because myself or an outside force won’t do change. This leaves everything at a stand still and we’re going nowhere. I’m defeated and just allowing time to go by. I’m not allowing what I want to say to come out. “ They make their way across the universe.”

Can someone send me a weekly notice of new slang cause bruhhh it seems like every week people are speaking a new language and I’m slipping through the cracks. Low key have to keep a tab open dedicated to looking up words, phrases and abbreviations and I’m still a teenager😂😫
