I will never understand why hypocrisy is so prevalent within the Avatar fandom. How do a lot of people who love Jake also hate on Spider???
In Avatar 1 Jake literally was working with Quaritch to convince the Na’vi people to give up home tree. Jake provided necessary information to the RDA which aided in destroying their land. Of course as we know his eyes opened and he switched sides. Meanwhile, Spider’s a boy who was raised in Pandora, is engrained in the culture, and has always been loyal to the Na’vi. But he becomes the spawn of the devil for not letting his own father drown? Yes his father is evil, but if he watch the movie with the context of how Spider yearned for a parental figure his whole life; it is easy to understand (not justify) his situation.
IF we’re comparing the two human main characters of the franchise by how “evil” their actions were. I think Jake being a grown man working with the RDA was worst than a teen saving his own father from drowning….
Listen both decisions where horrible to begin with, but have they both since done things enough for the audience to forgive their mistakes? YES. Jake became Toruk Makto and fought for the Na’vi. Spider said he regretted saving Quaritch and he shot him with an arrow trying to help Jake in combat.
Yet Jake is the only one forgiven within a majority of the fandom.
