it wasn’t self-hatred exactly, but something quieter, sharper—a nagging discomfort you could never quite silence. your reflection was never enough, and today, it felt like it never would be.

the thoughts clung to you all day like a second skin, heavy and suffocating. not even harry’s soft words from this morning—his warm hands cupping your cheeks as he whispered ”you’re breathtaking, love”—could fight the battle raging in your mind. today, you just couldn’t see it. couldn’t feel it.

by the time your last class ended, you were drained, exhaustion pulling you toward your dorm like a magnet. you didn’t linger in the halls or make small talk with friends. you couldn’t. the ache in your chest had grown too loud, demanding to be faced alone.

except you weren’t alone.

he pressed his index finger gently against your lips cutting you off, his emerald eyes locking with yours as he whispered, “shhh… no, love. it’s perfect. you’re perfect.”

his hands moved gently along your sides, as if tracing your outline, memorizing every curve. “look, so bloody perfect.”

you shook your head, pulling his hands away as doubt bubbled up inside you. “it doesn’t feel like it,” you admitted, your voice barely above a whisper.

you shook your head, the tears burning at the edges of your vision. “you’re just saying that.”

"riddle and y/l/n," he announced, his voice laced with a sneer. 

your stomach sank, disbelief washing over you. of all people—him? how had fate, or snape's twisted sense of humor, led to this?

mattheo riddle. the boy you loathed. your sworn enemy for the past five years. every interaction between you two was a battlefield of sharp words and icy glares. how could snape do this? worse still, why now?

as you dragged your luggage to the assigned room, your heart sank. the room was quaint, lit by flickering firelight from an old-fashioned hearth. one bed.

"guess we'll share then, darling," mattheo drawled from behind, his voice smooth as silk but laced with venom.

a whimper escapes you at the contact, your hands trailing up the back of his neck to tangle in his dark curls. they’re softer than you expected, like silk between your fingers. fuck, he feels too good—his weight, his warmth, the sheer size of him against you. you bite your lip, desperate for relief.

he smirks at your neediness, his movements deliberate as he grinds again, slower this time. 

“wrap your legs around me,” he commands, his voice rough and possessive. “good girl.”

you comply without hesitation, wrapping your legs around his waist. “need you,” you whisper, desperation dripping from your voice. “need you right now.”

his lips find your jawline, nipping gently before trailing down your neck. his hands move with purpose, slipping between you to unfasten his pants. he pulls back slightly, his gaze locking onto yours, dark and demanding. 

“look at me,” he orders, his voice a low rasp. “look at me while i take you.”

you nod, your eyes never leaving his as he positions his cock along the entrance to your core, as your heart pounds against your chest.

his grin turns predatory, satisfaction gleaming in his eyes. with agonizing slowness, he pushes into you, his face contorting in pleasure.

his gaze softens, his thumb tracing the curve of your jaw.

 “you’re something else, you know that?” he murmurs. “and i don’t just mean in bed.”

you chuckle, raising an eyebrow. “oh? then why’ve you spent the last five years fighting against me, mattheo?”

he sighs, pulling you closer, his arms wrapping around you protectively. “can we... start over?” he asks quietly. “forget the past five years? please.”

you tilt your head, a teasing smile on your lips. “i might need a little more convincing than that, love.”

his lips twitch into a rueful smile. “i know,” he admits. 

“i’ve been a stubborn idiot. but... give me a chance? no games, no fights. just us.”

“just us?” you echo, your voice softer now.

he nods, his expression earnest. “let me take you out tomorrow. a real date. no drama, no distractions. just me, trying to win the heart of the woman i’ve loved since i was fifteen.”

if you were to deny that you didn’t have even a slight crush on lo’ak, you’d be lying to yourself. you just couldn’t help it.

he had such an adventurous spirit that drew you in. and eywa, his looks did not help with the new blooming infatuation that was starting to build.

yet you knew that there was no chance, he was your best friend. there was no way you wanted to risk your friendship over a stupid little crush you had on him.

no, you couldn’t ruin it, no matter what, you reminded yourself. besides, he came to you for advice for girls. so much to the fact you became his official ‘wing woman. ‘

yeah, maybe it annoyed you, but what could you do? he was absolutely clueless that you thought of him like that, right?

“(name!)” a familiar voice called from behind you, snapping you out of your thoughts. you turned your head in the direction of the voice, and you were greeted with a handsome smile.

“i’ve been meaning to ask you something,” he begins, as he brushes off the space next to you before he finally sits down.

your eyebrows furrow at his words, “and that is?” you gently press, pushing for him to explain further what exactly he wanted to talk about.

his smile turns into an all too familiar teasing grin at your words, which you know only means no good.

“you have a crush on me, don’t you?” he says, nudging at your shoulder, and chuckling lightly.

it takes you a good twenty seconds to register the words that leave his mouth, and when you do your eyes widen in shock. your heart begins pounding loudly against your chest and your head feels like it’s spinning.

how does he know?

you take a breath in, bringing your senses back to the present before you respond to him.

“no, i don’t.” you deny, shifting your attention to the surroundings nearby, preferring to look at everything else but him.

“alright,” he says, yet he can tell by your reaction you’re lying through your fangs. i mean, he’s known you since you two were little kids.

he shakes his head as he watches your demeanor shifts into a fidgety one. and before you know it, two fingers gently placed under your chin before your chin is turned to the side to meet his gaze.

your eyes flicker back onto him, to find his lips only milliliters apart from yours. your face feels hot, and a soft crimson tint starts to form on your cheeks at his motion.

it’s almost as if he’s fooled you. allured you into his tricks and schemes. he thinks he’s won but his eyes widen in surprise as you slap his hand away from your chin, and move your head further away from his.

“don’t do that!” you snap, rolling your eyes at him.

“why not?”

“because it’s not fair i don’t want to be your temporary happiness,” you huff, as you cross your arms and press them close to your chest.

“(name), it’s not like that,” he promises, his words sound sincere but you’re unsure if you want to believe him.

“then what is it like?”

“it’s like…” he trails off, unable to form his words at your question. he’s almost speechless, and unsure of how to answer. should he lie or be truthful? he decides on the latter.

“i like you, and not just as a friend,” he sputters out, his eyes widening at the words that leave his very own lips as your mouth hangs slightly agape in shock. flutters start to stream into your senses, your tail swishing gracefully from side to side.

he sees me the way i see him?

“i’d like to show you, if you don’t mind,” he says, his voice is low and whispers of promises you’re unsure you’re willing to keep. he takes one of your hands and places it into his own.

“okay,” was all you managed to get out in your stunned state but nonetheless it reaffirmed him that you’d be okay with what was on his mind.

his eyes flicker down to your plush lips and then back to your eyes. he moves his other hand back up to cusp your warm cheeks and gazes deep into your eyes asking for your consent once more, you nod your head and with your final confirmation, he leans in and connects his lips to yours. you almost melt at how soft his lips were and how they tasted right against your own.

jitters fill your body as his tongue skims along your lip, asking for access, which you grant. as you tilt your head to the side and open your mouth slightly, deepening the kiss in the process.

you place your hands on his shoulders, pulling him in closer. while his hand that was holding your hand glides down to your thigh, skimming it gently.

if you weren’t so caught in the moment, you would’ve heard a na’vi clearing their throat in the background. and when the motion goes unnoticed, a-familiar-voice speaks.

“quite busy now, aren’t we?” the voice teases, causing the two of you break from each other while panting and gasping for air. before turning your heads towards the voice. the na’vi’s arms were crossed, almost as if he was angry or annoyed yet his face held a calm and patient smile. neteyam.

your eyes briefly wander back back to lo’ak to find his gaze on yours, and unsurprisingly both your mouths agape. you both turn your attention back to neteyam as he makes a shushing gesture, “don’t worry, i won’t tell anyone.” he says, winking before walking away from the area.

“oh eywa,” you say, laughing in shock and embarrassment at what just happened in the last ten minutes. lo’ak chimes in on your sweet laugh.

“caught redhanded by my own brother,” he sighs, smacking a hand on his forehead.

“it’s a bit funny,” you point out, to which he merely rolls his eyes.

“definitely not,” he says, his tone serious. If it weren't for his tail swishing about crazily and the suppressed laugh that followed, you almost would have believed him.

“wait,” you trail off as a thought comes to your mind, “how’d you even know i liked you?”

“mom told me,” he admits as the edges of her lips curled up into a soft smile as he recalled the memory. you giggle at his words. “i take back what i said this morning, you are definitely clueless.”

as usual, you and neteyam were strolling around the forest, exploring. It was getting late, almost eclipse time, but the two of you didn’t pay any mind. you were too preoccupied with each other to notice that the sky was beginning to darken.

“i can’t believe you're going to be my t’sahik one day,” he said, wiping away a fake tear.

“bad taste on my end, if i do say so myself” you teased and he rolled his eyes.

“shut up!” he laughed, frowning when you dodged his kiss.

“woah chill you’re my best friend,” you exclaimed, his eyes widening at your words and his mouth dropping at your antics, making you laugh even harder.

“I’m kidding! I love you,” you said with a smile, planting a soft kiss on his cheeks.

“i love you too, (name),” he beamed, his cheeks flushed with light hues of pink.

“i like how after all this time, you still blush at the smallest things,” you admit.

“how could i not? when i have you as my mate,” he said, caressing your cheek with his fingers as heat rose towards your face at his words. now you were the one blushing.

“ah, it seems the tables have turned, my love.” he teased, noticing the blush that crept onto your cheeks.

“shush” you murmured, causing him to chuckle at your words.

the loud screech of the direhorse snapped the two of you out of your little world, and back to your surroundings, you looked around to find out that night had fallen across the sky. it was now eclipse, which was your curfew. which meant your parents were going to skin the both of you.

“our parents are going to skin us!” you exclaimed, panic filling your voice.

“they can wait,” he said without hesitation.

you felt your jaw slightly drop at his words.

“is this the neteyam sully i know and love? or has something possessed him?” you joked, tilting your head to the side and gently slapping his left arm.

“very funny (name), ” he says and playfully rolls his eyes at your words.

you let out a sigh as you took in your glowing surroundings before wrapping your arms around neteyam, taking in his warmth, and burying your face into the crook of his neck. “eclipse is always so breathtaking, isn’t it?”

“you’re breathtaking,” he whispered, and you looked up at him.

“you know you mean so much to me right?” he began and you nodded, “you’re my everything, teyam” a smile plastered on your face and your heart beating at a rapid pace, thumping loud and uncontrollably, that even your ears twitch at the sounds of your heartbeat. without hesitation you crave your neck up, connecting your lips to his and he melts right against you. surrendering everything to you.

his eyes flutter shut and his arms wrap around your waist tighter, so that there’s no space left between the two of you. you place your hands around his neck, tilting your head to one side, and deepen the kiss in the process. your wandering hands move to his hair, stroking it ever so gently and carefully that he swears he falls in love with you all over again.

the two of you smile into the kiss, before bursting into a fit of giggles and laughter. his forehead pressed against yours, both your eyes still closed, and the two of you breathing heavily.

everything in that moment was perfect.

it wasn’t in neteyam’s nature to act like this. disregarding his parents' orders and sneaking around to see you.

however, he couldn't stop thinking about you. especially the laugh that would fall from your lips when he made a joke, the never-ending smile he wore when he was around you, the warmth of your touch, and just the way you made him feel in general.

It was as if you had cast a spell on him that he couldn’t seem to break from, not that he was complaining.

all he knew for certain was that he needed to see you. as a result, he settled to complete his task as soon as possible. his parents, particularly his father, had instructed him to gather twigs and branches for the mreki u'lito (fire pit) tonight.

he hastily gathered the twigs and branches, tying them together before he placed them to the side of a tree and hiding them well. he made a mental note to himself that he would bring them back home later, as he was supposed to.

a sense of guilt filled his chest as he looked back to check on the now-wrapped twigs and branches. his hands trembled a little. his tail swooshed from side to side. debating if he wanted to go through with it or not.

neteyam knew he shouldn’t leave his duties unattended, especially as the eldest son of the family. his parents were counting on him.

he knew it was wrong and that they would be worried if he didn't return soon, but why did being around you feel so right? he let out a huff, shaking his head before walking in the direction of your meeting spot.

neteyam was approaching, walking quickly, but he paused. his ears perked up when he heard familiar sounds of laughter and giggles coming from south the direction of where you were supposed to meet.

he followed instinctively and was met with a surprising sight. you were playing with a plant, the helicoradian to be exact.

he watched you in awe as you touched the leaf, it coiled up and retracted to the ground in response. you let out a soft giggle before moving to the next one.

“(name)!” he called, a smile filling his face. you turned towards the sound of the voice, smiling, before rushing towards the young boy and immediately engulfing him in a hug.

he sighed in contentment at the warmth of your presence. his previous sullen demeanor completely washing away from his body. his hands moved down to your waist and drew you in closer. the two of you stayed like that for a few moments before eventually pulling away.

“that seemed like a lot of fun,” he noted, and you nodded your head in agreement.

“it was.” you answered, your smile widening. “so, what brings you here?” you teased, already knowing the answer.

“a certain someone,” he quipped.

“and where might that certain someone be, neteyam?” you inquired, a smirk now tugging at your lips.

“they happen to be right in front of me,” he says happily, you giggle at his answer as he takes your hands and places them in his own.

“so miss me already, huh?” you teased once more.

“more than anything.” he sighs, his thumb gently caressing your hand.

“you know, it’s only been a day,” you point out, and he laughs in response.

“and a day is already long enough for me to miss you, my love,” he admits, his eyes locked on yours.

your cheeks feel hot at his words and your stomach does a flip, almost as if butterflies had entered your stomach and were fluttering around. “you just can’t seem to get enough of me can you?”

he chuckles at your words. “yes, I truly cannot (name).”

you pull him in for another hug, burying your face in the crook of his neck, as his hands wrap around your waist gently. the two of you soaking in each other’s warmth and presence once more.

he always made you feel at ease when he was close to you, and you adored him for it. you peppered soft kisses along his neckline before gazing up to look at your boyfriend to find that he was already looking at you with a grin on his face.

“i see you (name),” he says softly, before planting a gentle peck to your lips.

“i see you too, neteyam.” you beam up at him, noticing how his eyes light up at your words and how you can tell they are filled with so much love and care.

“now, are you up for a quick game of who can close all the helicoradians the fastest?” he challenged with an annoyingly cheeky face, and you playfully roll your eyes.

“oh, you’re on, sully!” you say, rushing towards the helicoradians before you’re pulled back as a hand latches onto the end of your tail.

“hey!” you yelp, swishing your tail out of his grasp. “that’s not fair”

“I never said it had to be fair,” he says, lips curving into a teasing smirk.

“i’ll get you for that!” you threaten.

“go right ahead, (name). i’m right here” he taunts, holding up his hands as if to assert his innocence.

you launch your body onto him, causing the two of you to tumble onto the ground. the helicoradians shrink right under you as the two of you playfully roll around the forest floor trying to topple one another.

it’s a continuous cycle of either one of you on top saying a smug sentence before they get flipped over and their back’s pressed down against the forest floor and they are proven wrong again.

“willing to surrender now, (name?)” neteyam asks, noticing your somewhat tired state, his body now on top of yours pressing you down on the ground.

“no,” you reply, refusing to back down despite the obvious fatigue in your voice.

although your response confirms his suspicions, and he moves away from you before offering his hand, which you gratefully accept.

the first thing you notice when you’re back off the forest floor is neteyam’s body covered with dirt before your eyes flicker to your own.

you gently brush it off yet it does no good, as it creates an even bigger smudge. neteyam moves towards you and helps you brush off the rest of the dirt on your body.

“thank you, neteyam” you say, placing a hand on his shoulder, eyes full of gratefulness.

“no worries, my love.” he chuckles, his hand moving to place a braid behind your ear. your cheeks turn into a shade of pink at his motion.

“i really do love you, you know that?” you say, giggling. he nods his head at your words, “and i really love you too.”

the two of you turn around hand in hand to notice that the helicoradian field had coiled and shrunken to the ground.

you both end up bursting into a fit of laughter at each other's competitiveness earlier. “it’s a draw,” you exclaim, and neteyam merely shakes his head. “you wish.”
