HFW DLC: Burning shores
Guerilla have finally announced the HFW DLC, apparently it will be exclusive for ps5 due graphics performance reasons. I understand the normal flow is the games end up being only for ps5 to take full advantage of the ps5 system BUT we are talking about a DLC from a base game that was realeased for ps4 and ps5, it seems completely unfair to PS4 players that we stay like idiots after the trailer without being able to do more than watch it on youtube (yes, I could buy a ps5, but I already have the game on PS4, DLC should come out for both platforms, otherwise why making game for both ps4 and ps5). I also don’t understand ps5 owner people who seems happy about DLC only coming out on PS5, I mean, thanks for the part that we get. I’ll stay here, seeing people’s reviews and that’s it
PS: If Kotallo appears and I can’t see him by myself and hunting him, I’ll be upset.
PS2: I really, really, REALLY understand in ps5 will look the best, but when is a DLC from a ps4/ps5 it is just ugly move for ps4 players. Do you fucking really cannot adapt for ps4? fuck, that is a lie. If guerrilla wanted to move to next gen they shouldn’t have released the base game for ps4 then.
It’s less about how it’ll look and more about higher processing needs. I forgot where I read this, but supposedly, HFW barely made the cut for being able to play on PS4 without major issues & generally, it gets harder to make higher-spec games on older consoles (yes, let’s face it, the PS4 is nearly 10 years old & is considered by technological standards as old).
Guerrilla deciding that the DLC will be a PS5 exclusive does likely mean that parts of whatever they’ve cooked up for this is truthfully too demanding both graphic & gameplay-wise for a PS4 to handle. *cough* probably that horus *cough*
I won’t say this doesn’t suck for PS4 players because it does, and yes, this does work in Sony’s favor as a cash grab…but there are actual technical limitations to consider. Despite what you may think, I don’t think anyone was trying to give PS4 players the middle finger here.
Also, HFW is not the first cross-generation game to come out with a PS5-exclusive DLC so this isn’t too surprising. Final Fantasy 7 Remake did the same thing, and its DLC came out last year.
(On a side note, maybe this wasn’t widely known judging by the “I already own a PS4 version of the game so why buy a PS5” comment above, but if you already own the PS4 version of the game, you can actually upgrade to the PS5 one for free once you have the console. Same for most other games that have come out in the last 2 years. Anything that’s older is what the beauty of backwards compatibility is for…)
FF7R argument doesn’t work though because PCs that are equivalent to the PS4 Pro can still play it.
Yes, it does because FF7R Intergrade came out in June of 2021 for PS5 only. It didn’t come out for PC until December of that year alongside the base game, so for 6 months, it was a PS5 exclusive & was advertised as such.
You don’t get my argument. The PC version is FF7R Intergrade. Intergrade was advertised as being PS5 only because the PS4 couldn’t handle it. But when the PC version came out that was revealed to be bullshit because PCs that are equivalent to the PS4 could handle it just fine. Raytracing is literally just a setting you can toggle on and off. Sony took the additional story of Intergrade and instead of releasing it on the PS4 version, made it PS5 exclusive for purely monetary and non-technical reasons.
In that case, you either completely missed the point of that particular section in my original reply or you chose to not acknowledge it for the sake of making your argument because not once did I try to bring up FF7R’s technical specs nor was I trying to reason why Sony made the decisions it did for that game.
The only reason I briefly brought up FF7R is because the fact that the DLC came out as a PS5 exclusive as far back as mid 2021 probably should have been a hint to us that other games were likely gonna follow up with the same pattern soon thereafter. Nothing more.
Then what about all the stuff talking about tech issues?
That was a separate point only regarding Burning Shores.
The “FF7R argument” you thought I was making was just a simple acknowledgment that it also had a DLC that came out as a PS5 exclusive awhile back…only meaning that HFW is not the first or only game to have this happen to, and there is chance we should probably expect this to be the norm for other games from here on out. I wasn’t using it as an elaboration for anything else I had said before. All you did was fill in invisible lines & tac on an extra argument as if I had, which I honestly can’t say was appreciated.
My apologies. I thought the two arguments were connected.
Nope, but thank you for the apology.
