Devlog #1 (Charm Bears)
It's been a while since I used my tumblr. I've been busy working on my game. Right now I'm working on the crafting portion of my game. Here's a preview of some of the cute bears I made.
The first is a velvet amphabian bear plushie (based on the axolotl) and the other is a mohair mammalian bear plushie.
You'll be able to dye the bears, hence why their grayscale at the moment.
In my game there are different bears based on animal kingdom categories. Bear types are determined by what category your animal familiar belongs to. Certain familiar types have higher affinity to specific magics. It's been a lot of fun so far. Right now I'm working on the steampunk ink mixer. Here's a draft of it.
I'm not quite done with it. I want more pipes and gear. I want to make sure everything makes sense as well. It's my first time making a steampunk gadget but I'm having loads of fun. I'm hoping to be done with the crafting section by the end of the month. I'll try putting up a video or gif when that happens.
Quick Update
Sorry, it has been so quiet lately. I've been doing a lot of prep work. I plan to have consistent updates starting in February. So it might stay quiet on here for a bit longer.
A value study I did today. I'm really bad at coloring so this was really great practice and pretty fun to do. Here is a timelapse. (I'm really into timelapses these days.)
Since I know almost nothing about color theory. I decided I'll need to read "Color and Light" by James Gurney. I haven't started it yet but it's on the list. I hope this year turns out to be an awesome one for everyone!
2026 is going to be a year of learning and improvement. I plan to practice my art more as well as practicing programming. For programming goals, my focus is Renpy and Python, but I would eventually like to delve further into Godot but I'm not sure if I'll manage to get to that this year. Mainly because I have some projects I'll be focusing on as well.
I have 3 main projects planned for this year.
One is to finish book 2 in my Tyrant Reborn fantasy series.
Two, I plan to publish my first commercial game. It's a document investigation game with crafting. Think of games like Papers, Please and Death & Taxes mixed with Duck Detective and a bit of crafting. I'll go into more detail about that in a later post.
I'll be doing a devlog here as I go through creating the game. I'm planning to have the game be around 4-6 hours, with an endless mode for the crafting part after the story finishes. The goal is to finish and publish the game this year, but if that isn't possible I plan to at least have a polished demo completed.
Lastly, I'll be working on another game. This one is an interactive fiction game. You know those text-based choose your on adventure (CYOA) games. I've always loved them and wanted to make one, so I finally decided to go for it.
It's a superhero game. I won't be starting it until I finished at least one of the first two projects. My goal is to get at least the first chapter completed sometime this year.
So many plans, but honestly, this is pretty light for me. We'll see if that ends up actually being the case.

Time for Something New
Lately, I've put out several game for game jams and prototypes (and 1 plug-in) and came to the conclusion I really want to focus on making a polished and complete game (hopefully with no bugs).
While I love the games I've done so far they are rushed and have been a bit buggy. So I'll be working on a new game that I will be taking my time creating to make sure it is the best I can make currently.
I already selected the project, a supernatural mystery game. So just a heads-up that I'll be trickling in updates as I go. I hope you all will join me on my new journey.

Free Ren'py Notification Plugin
I made my first plug-in and posted it for free on itch.io. It lets you quickly add simple notification boxes to your game. ou know those boxes that say +1 strength, +1 affection. But it isn't limited to that. The boxes are customizable, plus you can even replace the boxes with images instead.
All you have to do is drop in two files in your game folder and done! From that point on you just type $ show_notihication("msg") and the message pops up. Super easy. Here's the link: https://starlit-carnival-studios.itch.io/starlit-notification
I plan to do more plug-ins and modular systems in the future, some free some paid. Besides that, I'm working on another game. This time with a team for a challenge. It's going smoothly so far.
Bug fixes and busy beeing
Oddity had another update with changelog this time. This one is the last update for a while unless a huge bug appears. I realize I'm spending a lot on a game I plan to redo but I don't mind since I'm learning a lot and figuring out way for the full game to be rebuilt. When I get to work on the full-release of Oddity, Ill be building it from the ground up.
Until then, I have a lot of plans. One is finishing the python programming class I've been taking which I should finish up this week. It's taught me a lot, especially about things I though I already had a firm grasp of. I'll probably review many of the lessons afterwards until I feel like the knowledge has rooted deep into my brain. Practice makes perfect. Besides that, I'm working on my first asset release. Right now I'm deciding what I want to include in the asset since it's a framework. But I'll talk more about that later.
Lastly, I'm working on another game but this one is with a team. It's a small game for a challenge even but I'm really excited about it. I'm working as the programmer and team lead. It's been a fun experience so far.

Changelogs are Important
As a new game dev with only two games out and one prototype, this is the first game I had where I had to be concerned with major bugs. I've been fixing them but I haven't kept a changelog with what is fixed and what is pending. I realize just how important this is for players to see recently. So going forward, I'll be keeping that, especially since currently, the updates for the Web version are different from the updates for the Downloadable version. I also plan to merge those as well so that everything is update at once. So I'll start releasing a changelog going forward. On that note, I'll be working on some bug fixes this weekend so expect an update for both the downloadbles and web version either Sunday or Monday. The feedback I've gotten on the game has been awesome (though most has been sent privately, I still appreciate it!!!) If you enjoy the game, please consider leaving a comment on Itch.io!

I've had this account active for a while, but now it's finally time to do something aside from lurking with it! This is the blog of a (mostly) solo game dev to yap about my project, and share some of my own favorite indie games I play!
I'm Boscirus (she/her), a video game artist who's spent the last year working on my first major solo project. One of my best friends is composing the music, but everything else from art, writing, and programming is all me.
My game is called, "Tales of Amythria" , it's a choice-based, fantasy visual novel all centered around mystery, dragons, and how one finds their way when they've lost everything. This project is inspired by my childhood of reading classic fantasy novels, playing D&D, and being generally obsessed with dragons!
You play as one of 6 characters, all from different backgrounds and with different lives, and travel to a newly discovered land to join a fledgling band of dragon riders. Get to know the people who've made this outpost their lives, go out and tame wild dragons, all while uncovering some dark mysteries along the way, that may just unravel everything these people ever knew. There's also some romance in the game, if you want it (I promise for any of my Aro-Ace's in the room, that high approval is written differently than romanced)!
This game has been everything for me, from designing (and re-designing) the gameplay, writing the story and characters, to have it finally be ready to actually talk about and share the progress for is a surreal feeling. I can't wait to show some more visual stuff here soon!

Relaxing, Sorta?
So for the rest of the month I'm relaxing and that has been going so-so. I've been promoting Oddity here and there. I'm hoping to get some feedback. Besides that, I ended up signing up for a python class. So far, it's going over things I already know but the way the teacher explains things makes it a lot clearer than before. I feel like I have a much better grasp. The class is 17 lessons, so I've been doing a lesson a day. Since I won't be starting my horror shopkeeper game until March, I've been considering doing some practice games in the meantime while taking classes here and there. I also decided on the crafting route for the shopkeeper game, which will be amulets and talismans and more specifically jewelry-making. I'm pretty excited about it.
Oct 18, 2025 - What's Next?
After a hot shower and a good night's sleep, I feel refresh. So let's talk about what I plan to do next. Now that I finished Oddity, I plan to take some time off to relax and play some games. I've been saving games from the Spooktober Jam to play after edits were finished. This is a nature background I did for Oddity. I love drawing nature backgrounds but buildings and interiors are not my forte so I plan to work on improving my background and item art. This is especially important for the next game I'll be working on. A shopkeeping game with a touch of horror. I don't plan to start working on it until March. I plan to participate in a March Game Jam and build a small vertical slice for the game. So until March, I'll be working on other projects but I still plan to update here with plans, concepts, and art for other future games. So keep an eye out!
