OK LISTEN THERE ARE REASONS FOR THIS!!!

A lot of these places are called liminal spaces - which means they are throughways from one space to the next. Places like rest stops, stairwells, trains, parking lots, waiting rooms, airports feel weird when you’re in them because their existence is not about themselves, but the things before and after them. They have no definitive place outside of their relationship to the spaces you are coming from and going to. Reality feels altered here because we’re not really supposed to be in them for a long time for think about them as their own entities, and when we do they seem odd and out of place.

The other spaces feel weird because our brains are hard-wired for context - we like things to belong to a certain place and time and when we experience those things outside of the context our brains have developed for them, our brains are like NOPE SHIT THIS ISN’T RIGHT GET OUT ABORT ABORT. Schools not in session, empty museums, being awake when other people are asleep - all these things and spaces feel weird because our brain is like “I already have a context for this space and this is not it so it must be dangerous.” Our rational understanding can sometimes override that immediate “danger” impulse but we’re still left with a feeling of wariness and unease. 

Listen I am very passionate about liminal spaces they are fascinating stuff or perhaps I am merely a nerd.

I get the playgrounds at night because I walk to one that’s near my house at night sometimes and hang out. I always feel like I’m being watched or followed, or rather something out of the ordinary is happening

fanfic writers deserve better

if we post too fast, we get accused of using ai (no, you don't know how fast someone can write. you don't even know if the "too-frequent-to-be-human updates" you see are something that have long been finished and sitting in an author's drafts for god knows how long. just because it's recently posted, doesn't necessarily always mean it's recently written too. a lot of writers finish the whole thing first before they start posting it chapter by chapter).

if we take "too long to update", we get people pressuring us to "update faster" even though fanfics are our hobbies and we write for ourselves first and foremost.

if our works are grammatically correct, we get accused of using ai (some of us just love correct grammars).

if our works are not grammatically correct, we get insulted/criticized (mind you, not everybody writes in their native language. kudos to writers who write in their second, or third, or fourth language — I'm willing to bet a lot of people who criticize fanfics because of poor grammar can't even speak other languages besides english).

if our paragraphs are "too long and too detailed", we get accused of using ai.

if our paragraphs are "too short", we also get accused of using ai.

if we are autistic and we write in ways some deem "too robotic", we get accused of using ai.

some people just don't use their brains to think "ai was trained on human-made works, it was trained to look human-made. ai writes this way because the way it writes is the way real humans write — real humans whose works it was trained to mimic". instead they somehow disregard this logic and think "hmmm this work looks ai-generated. I will engage in witch hunt, be a bully and harass writers whose works I don't vibe with".

Summary below the cut

Rick frequently allows himself to slip down a rabbit hole of all things revolving around their team. A lot of it was fans sharing art, bedazzled jerseys and painted jackets, digital drawings of various players and so on. The other half was pictures from games, captured mid celebration after a goal or funny screenshots of players during interviews.

He rarely interacts with any of it, beyond maybe sharing it to his teammates or an occasional like when it focuses around the team or himself.

Recently, fans had been going crazy over Leo, their rookie who had become a bit of a star amidst the new players. He wasn't necessarily the absolute best of their team by any means, nor of the rookies, but their fans and even some who weren't of the team were quickly drawn to the energy he brought with him.

Rick would be lying if he said he were immune to it.
