I love asking people how their parents met. You always get an interesting reply. My best friend’s parents met on the relatively new internet in 1999. My other friend’s parents met at Burger King when one was the manager and the other was a regular customer. My parents met at the beach because they were neighbors in their rental houses, mom was on a church trip and dad was getting blackout drunk every night with his friends next door.

I, a hearing person who likes subtitles just as a preference, shouldn't have to read a subtitle that's obvious nonsense, go back a couple seconds, and listen again in order to figure out what's going on. An accessibility feature should not be the most half-assed part of a professionally made production. Scripted media has absolutely no excuse for not having subtitles or having subtitles that aren't perfectly verbatim. Professional captioning services should be ashamed of the shoddy work that they put out. Captions should be treated as a part of the production, just like filming, editing, audio balancing, etc - and anything that releases with missing or bad captions should be seen as unfinished

They should also be of a reasonable size and not the same color as the background, and should include things said in other languages instead of just saying “speaks foreign language.”

This is all a matter of budget, of course. Caption writers are overworked, underpaid, frequently hearing-challenged themselves, and rarely if ever get to see the script of the work they're transcribing to fix spelling errors or clear up homonyms.

The really frustrating part is that Paramount/CBS shells out enough to add perfectly spelled tlhIngan Hol captions for all the Klingon dialogue in every single Star Trek series after the original -- only to have something like [Speaks French] in the same episode.

Realizing more and more that I am 100% on the aromantic spectrum. In-sys love is awesome but three separate people have confessed to me irl in the past couple years and it's always resulted in me feeling immediate confusion and/or panic. I do not want any of that. Let me be your friend and just that. Urghh. I can't even put into words how much I Do Not Want It.
