Weird - Swocket
“Is THAT what you were doing!?”
The heat from Rocket’s face runs up to his horns. Sword can’t help but laugh, only burning more embarrassment into his cheeks.
“Stop laughing, you dumb tin can! It’s not funny!” In childish rage, he beats his fists on Sword’s back to get him to shut up. Sword shrieks, trying to push Rocket away, tangling the two into a tussle on the floor. They wrestle for a brief moment, limbs locking over one another to force the other into defeat. It’s only until Sword’s hand taps on him, prompting Rocket to roll off to his side with a triumphant huff.
They laid there side by side, exchanging tired breaths as they stared up the decorated ceiling of Rocket’s bedroom. Fairy lights string across the peeling posters of his favorite bands, TV shows, or whatever junk he ripped off the walls to add to his collection. A collection he’d never share but to Sword. Only he got to see any of it because he was… cool? Amazing? Funny? Strong? Brave? Kind? Hot?
Words that choked at his throat that he’d never have the heart to say. That’s why he tried kissing him on the bridge that night. ‘Actions speak louder than words’ some bullshit his dad would say.
“Sorry that I tried to kiss you.” Rocket speaks up. “That was weird, I didn’t know what I was thinking.”
“Do you still like me?”
Rocket counts how many red posters are on the wall. “Will you stop hanging out with me?”
“Of course not.” Sword shifts to his side, staring from the corner of his eye. “You’re my best friend. Nothing will change that.”
Now he’s counting how many start with ‘S.’ “Then are we just friends?”
“I don’t know… nobody’s ever liked me like that. I’ve never thought about us like that…”
The fairy lights burn into his retinas.
“But… I can try. I-I’ve never done anything like dating before! I’m not really sure, but if it’s with you then…”
Sword’s hand brushes against his wrist. Rocket glances for a second and they’re both trapped in each other’s gaze. For a minute, he forgets how close their faces are. For a second, he doesn’t realize how warm Sword’s lips are against his.
