A NOTE ABOUT DEAD DOVE WARNING:      i am unsure what the general consensus of dead dove content is,  but for me i add it here because my portrayal of alastor,  versus any other character,  is much more violent,  disturbed,  &&  likely to stay that way.  my other characters tend to lean towards tame or "normal" ish behaviors,  but my alastor is driven by entertainment first,  making a point with violence.  he likes to be classy,  certainly,  but he doesn't put nearly as much emphasis in being perceived "well" the way vox does if that's what you're familiar with from me!  i do not ever condone the topics that may come up,  i also am more than happy to avoid certain topics  etc,  per partner,  &&  if there are tags you need in specific,  i am happy to oblige.  i will not necessarily tone him down in terms of generality,  but i am happy to provide options!

Alastor could hardly help giving himself an unending compliment, plus a seeming one to Tenna. Having him around lately seems to have been going well. Or, as well as he would think having a new TV headed demon around could be. He kept his expectations on the ground, anyway. Hard to avoid him in Cannibal Town, regardless! If Rosie wanted to keep him, who was he to deny her?

It wasn't a break up. Not really, no. Alastor may not have been the most aware of every relationship type, or all the fancy new labels people had, but he knew good and well that he had never been with anyone. Not in any way that really mattered. He knew about a particular someone's feelings, but that made no difference to him, of course.

So why was it that seeing him spending so much time with someone else felt so terrible?

❛ That stupid moth doesn't even have anything, ❜ he mumbled into the table, face down. He was at Husk's place, the King of Hearts himself, how ironic. He was drinking his sorrows, if one could call them that.

Alastor couldn't function if he didn't have his meat? Charlie clenched and unclenched her hands, still seething but trying to calm herself down.

"Sounds like an addiction," she huffed, "... to put it lightly. Alastor, I better not catch you making any comments about Husk or Angel."

Then came a long sigh. Charlie could tell Alastor was reveling in her reaction, which was the exact opposite of what she'd been hoping to achieve.

She pressed a hand to her face for a moment, before turning to look at him with a shake of her head.

"Fine. Fine, because you're not an actual resident of the Hazbin... fine."

As long as they would regenerate.

"But I would really appreciate if you kept this stuff more... private, in the future? This truly seems like one of those times where it's best not to share. There are times like that, you know."

She held the door open for him, and then followed him inside. Think positive. Spin the terrible into the terrific.

"... You might be onto something with the sharing thing, though," Charlie offered at length. "I like that. Can you think of something else you can share with people that isn't... this?"

An addiction? Well that was certainly one way to think of it! He certainly experienced a hefty set of withdrawal symptoms if he didn't consume the delicacy — or if he didn't drink at least once every quarter hour. Not that he really let people know about these aspects, but he wasn't opposed to owning up to them as necessary. Especially to keep the metaphorical field in his favor. Can't let people have anything to hold over him!

A casual admittance of having addictions in all facets, really. Following her inside easily, smile ever in place.

Other things to share? What would he care to share? His hobbies were not for the faint of heart, really, clearly, but he made a show of tapping his chin and humming a little tune as he pondered the question.

He could smoke the meat, but never really cook it. It would be full of flavor but cold, as his preferred method was. He had dabbled on hot smoking, but never as successfully.

There were many whispers and loud vocals about Alastor throughout the Pride Ring. A feared Overlord that could make sinners disappear in the blink of an eye. Something to do with his radio, maybe? But Black Star couldn't remember 100 percent. Still, the thought of being Alastor's enemy terrified her.

Black Star's ears were partially lowered and her tail was tucking itself around her waist, which was a sigh of the sinner being fearful. When Alastor welcomed her proposal, Black Star's ears shot back up and she looked surprise. "Oh! Th-Th-That's great!" Although there was a sense of dread that he'd be accompanying her. Would the Radio Demon try to pull something? It was hard to not let her fear get the better of her.

Cold cuts did sound delicious in the moment. Then again, Black Star had a bit of a gluttonous side to her character. As the two continued to converse while making way to the hotel kitchen, Black Star said "if you ah.. d-don't mind sharing I.. I'd love a couple slices." What did Alastor have though? Ham? Turkey? Either one sounded lovely and was making the feline begin to salivate.

Off to the kitchen they went, and Alastor took to putting on a little music from his microphone as they went, something to nod his head to, to fill the room. A little sway to his movements, altogether happy with the circumstances. A nice drink and something to eat, with someone who so clearly feared him. What could be better?

He laughed a little at her response, even as he opened the fridge door, pulling out a few little containers. One of them was undoubtedly his, while the other was one of the hotel's free access ones of cold cuts. Ham, if he remembered right, black forest. Tasty stuff.

He held each as an offer to her.

❛ Mine is fresher, ❜ he said evasively. ❛ I got it myself yesterday, and it's cured very nicely. ❜ Sinner meat, of course. Some sort of bird variant.

❛ But if you want the hotel's cuts, of course, I'll understand. ❜

Vox almost wishes he was less of a prisoner to the restrictions he placed on his own wildest impulses, because if left unchecked he'd probably take a go at Alastor regardless---nevermind that he hadn't escaped remotely unscathed the last time they'd had a real fight. 

But the stabilizers and restrictions are there for a reason. Vox's public image post-Alastor has been partly predicated on the image of control and self-perfection. Every little slip in that mask is another reason for vulnerable customers to turn their eyes away from him; he'd already fucked things up badly enough when he'd first caught wind of Alastor's sudden and unannounced return to Hell's limelight. Alastor won't get to ruin him more than he already has.

"Oh, fuck you! You've seen exactly what I'm ca-a-apable of." The smile that lights up his screen becomes forced as Vox fights off the rising agitation once again. What Alastor wants most is the satisfaction of getting to Vox. "What do you call having my face plastered all over the entire entertainment district? I've got thou-ou-ousands of souls working day in and day out to put out shit with my name slapped on it. I am Hell's entertainment."

Not that it brings him any satisfaction to brag about it to the one person who couldn't give less of a shit. The only thing Vox has ever wanted that's evaded his reach is Alastor.

"That enough bragging for you? I could keep going! I mean, seriously, what have you done since you've been back? Sit around in some dingy little hotel and play concierge for Lucifer's daughter? Get your a-a-a-a-ass kicked trying to prove you're ho-o-ot shit?"

The more that Vox responds, though, the wider Alastor's smile gets, the more satisfied that he is. It doesn't matter so much if it isn't exactly what he imagined, no, but he is still engaging, in spite of ( most likely ) knowing that it is, in general, a bad idea. Idle fingers twirl his cane easily, listening in amusement as Vox does, as predicted, go on and on.

He might be Hell's entertainment, but that was while Alastor was away. Now, Vox would continue his efforts, but it would be to Alastor's tune, he vowed. And he would make the television sinner dance, if he could, and it seemed like that would be surprisingly easy. If he had his face plastered everywhere, it just meant it would be all the easier to turn the tune of public opinion with enough cover pieces. And the more he spoke the man's name, the more attention would turn to him, on top of it, and that was a delight in and of itself. To be a little worm in the back of Vox's mind — that was his greatest desire.

And he seems to have succeeded!

❛ Oh, were you watching this whole time? I had no idea! ❜ A little laugh, the kind where he covers his mouth to be polite. ❛ I think I've done quite a bang - up job, if you ask me! My power was visible for everyone to see, I held up pretty well for what I was doing, and we won. Besides, sitting pretty while you do all the work for me, suits me well! ❜

Plenty of people were talking about him, after all of it. Perfection. He can hardly ask for more.

❛ While you work yours and yourself into the ground, I get to reap the benefits without lifting much of a finger! How about that! ❜

Her hands shook as she dried her eyes, grateful for the item he gave her. Taking a slow, shaky breath, she managed to somewhat compose herself, "Y-yes....I know many with...angelic features...aren't looked upon with favor...but with disgust and fear...."

Dove sipped the water slowly, her breath still somewhat ragged, "It's ironic, really, and sad at the same time...."

Her golden gaze lowered into her lamp, a somber look decorating her appearance, "My father, an arch angel, casted me down here because he saw as me as some abomination....and down here, sinners and demons alike see me as a monster...."

Her eyes began to pool with tears once again, the salty liquid plopping onto her lap as her voice wavered, "Seems I don't have a place anywhere...."

She hated to crumple before the radio demon, but at that moment, she didn't care.

Alastor nodded in some understanding, tapping a claw or two on his staff. This information was neither new nor surprising, given his time and experience in Hell thus far, but Dove was a more ... sensitive creature than he was himself. His ability to comfort was subjective, and his hand remained on her shoulder, maybe as an anchor for her, but equally as much as a way to be in control of some of the situation.

Tears were uncomfortable for him. He couldn't, in good conscience, remember a time in which he had cried, not really. It was a weakness, for anyone to display, and that was dangerous. His emotions needed to be kept in check at all times, but it did leave him in an awkward position when those around him broke down. Did they truly feel safe enough around him to do so, or was whatever their plight was too much to handle that it didn't matter?

❛ Come, come, dear, no need to cry! ❜ He loved the sound, of course, but it would be a little too obvious to tell her to continue her little sob show. ❛ It's hardly your fault! I can only presume they are no longer with us, but you did what you had to do. I can assure you that anyone else would have done the same; it was you, or them. And you do have a place, it's right here, isn't it? We have welcomed you here with open arms, and that is all you need remember. Anyone else's opinion of you matters less than nothing! ❜

Oh, the temptation to deny the king his request was so very high. He held the power of it on his very tongue, and Lucifer was so sweet, he would never really press him on it if he declined. He was kind that way, even if he was soulless.

But, as much as the idea amuses him, he would be more interested in encouraging such dramatic, nonsensical behavior. One arm wraps around him, tugging the shorter in close, leaning down to press a heavy kiss to his lips - to bite at one of them, almost hard enough to draw that delicious golden ichor he held.

❛ So you think I'm funny? What news! ❜ His grin was wide on his face, taunting and self - satisfied more than anything else. Proud. Happy. Don't tell anyone that part. Or, actually, feel free to. He never minded the attention, after all! Positive, negative, it hardly mattered. He had started off on the negative foot with the King, and while things had slowly worked their way more neutral, Alastor would never turn down a change to wriggle his way under the angel's skin.

It was just so much fun.

Her response should have been rather expected. She was a beating, bleeding heart of a person, really. But maybe it was just that, maybe it was that strange promise of safety, or desire to provide it that really threw him off? Maybe it was the blatant way she flaunted her feelings, maybe it was the way she seemed to think him weak.

Did she think he was weak? That he needed her help? How funny!

His mind wouldn't quiet down. His heart raced like something chased him. Was he angry? Usually that was it.

❛ Charlie. You don't need to concern your pretty little head about me! I work in deals, you know that, it's just the way I do business. My contracted favor from you will come up whenever it does, but for now, there is nothing I need from you! ❜ He turned away from her, trying to figure out his own mind for a moment. His head hurt. Ugh.

❛ I know you mean what you say, and it is very good of you. I trust you as far as your words will get you, which admittedly is much further than I once expected! You will always do your best, whether you succeed or not. And that, my dear, is what I like to see. ❜

Better. He turned back to face her, smiling more naturally, having smoothed himself down. Relax. Stay calm.

The band of sinners trying to break into the hotel was hardly more than a nuisance. While the other inhabitants were more worried, and even the king himself, he knew well why. Charlie wanted nothing terrible to happen here. But Charlie simply could not always get what she wanted.

He stalked down the stairs and flung the doors open, sending the sinners leaning into it backwards. His form was already shifting, but just barely, shadows closing in.
