zero sum
SSM19, Prompt 21: Something borrowed
Just being Sakura was never enough.
From the beginning, Sakura had always known she was the weakest link on her team. And in the beginning, she doesn’t mind. In her 12 year old mind, playing damsel in distress was much more romantic than three musketeers.
She rather enjoyed the way Kakashi gives her the easiest tasks and the way Naruto always tried to get on her good side. And she especially liked the way Sasuke paid extra attention to her as the girl he has to protect.
But she soon realizes that she is nothing but a liability.

Sasuke didn't make Sakura the ring to track her location. He made it because people were thinking she was single.

Op you’ve singlehandedly given me three broken limbs with this
I just unfollowed someone over something small, but I feel fine about it. Little rant here to make me feel a little better about it. Spoiler alert if you haven’t seen Avengers: Endgame.
Peggy Carter is not the “reward” for Steve Rogers. She is not just a fucking prize; if anything he is her prize. They have undoubtedly been in love since we got to know the characters in film. Throughout Agent Carter, we knew what Peggy chose to do was always the right thing to do. Throughout the Avengers films, we knew what Steve chose to do was always the right thing to do. We also were reminded several times in the course of those stories that each loved the other deeply.
Neither of them is simply a “prize” for the other. There is nothing in the films that suggests either of them stopped being strong, individual, and wonderful. Maybe they weren’t “super,” but maybe they were. We don’t know (yet?). Maybe Steve was the stay-at-home dad who ran a support clinic, and Peggy was even more amazing as Agent Carter (with a super-strong and loving Steve as another side-kick in the car with Jarvis).
What happens in the film is that Steve does all the dirty work, cleaning up after the Thanos mess and he eventually decides after seventy-or-more-fucking-years of being a walking, talking laboratory experiment gone right, he wants to have a family. He wants to spend time with the woman he has loved for all of those seventy-or-more-fucking-years.
I love the Steve and Bucky shipping stuff. It’s fun. If it makes you happy, great. But in the story, Steve also loves Peggy, and eventually he marries her, and then grows old with her. They are both strong and awesome and they both deserve each other. They are the reward for each other. Steve earns the life he wants, and he does all the amazing things, he saves the world a bunch of times, then he helps saves the entire-fucking-universe. Then he gets to do more amazing things; but for himself, for Peggy, and possibly for his children.
Love and a family does nothing to diminish Peggy Carter. It does nothing to diminish Steve Rogers. It does nothing to diminish Agent Carter, and it does nothing to diminish Captain America. Instead it celebrates all of those things.
you in your stupid army uniform dancing away with your best girl
I hate you 😭😭😭
The nice thing about Steve not talking about the life he lived after Endgame is the implication that it’s very possible he and Peggy didn’t work out.
It isn’t the idea that he got together with Peggy that matters, in the long run. What matters is that Steve was so defined by missed opportunity, his story always hearkening back to the dance he never had. And whether you consider that a good running theme or a bad one, it was something almost always present as part of his trauma and arc.
Ending with Steve and Peggy dancing isn’t the assurance that he and Peggy got to live their life together, but that Steve was finally able to get over the one great regret of his life he hadn’t yet gotten closure on (the others being losing Bucky - he got him back after TWS; the fallout with Tony - they made up and worked together again; and the Snap - which they undid).
The fact that he missed the dance with a woman he very well could have loved for a long time, and the fact that he didn’t get the opportunity to live his life if he hadn’t fallen into the ice – both of these were resolved with that ending.
Steve didn’t have to regret not knowing – he got to live it, and it doesn’t matter what he lived, if he and Peggy worked out, if it was everything he hoped or less than his experiences with the Avengers. All that matters is that he was finally able to live it.
I’m going to draw this. Love me some Parks and Rec uwu (Also Happy burfday stevie)
