You can totally be a feminist who has insecurities. Feminism isn’t about pretending we all feel like Wonder Woman, it’s about being honest when we don’t, and having the conversation on why that is.

“When you bring consciousness to anything, things begin to shift.” ― Eve Ensler
iiiiiiiiit's DOCUMENTARY DAY!
Today I watched Park Avenue: Money, Power and the American Dream. The documentary describes the difference between life in Manhattan on Park Avenue (specifically CEOs living in 740 Park Ave. -- the richest apartment building in America) and life across the Harlem River in the Bronx. I would be lying if I typed I wasn't infuriated for the majority of the informative 70 minute film. Unfortunately, like most make-the-world-a-better-place spurts of energy I've had in my years, the feeling is already diminishing. I felt anger, sadness and despair for how rich the rich are and how they continually, greedily, want more. (I can't help but question anybody's character that has more than 35 rooms in their apartment but doesn't back social programs like food stamps.) ...But my enthusiasm is flatlining. I probably won't send meanly written letters to David Koch like I had plotted to in the midst of the movie. And it is sadly unlikely that I will donate money, or even my time, to local food banks helping hungry families. My fire is fading fast... but (!) I am still writing this -- which may be a tiny step, but a step nonetheless, towards cultivating consciousness about the harsh realities of our present day society.
Subsequently, this documentary raised a Thought Provoking Question TPQ. If I was one of the people who believed that any persons using social programs are "mooching" off the system, I too would be upset and hostile. I am not one of these people though. I believe some people just simply need some help. And yes, the reality is others are taking advantage of the system, therefore the TPQ is: What is worse, some people taking advantage or some people going without food? To me, the answer is simple: I rather the programs be in place to help the people in need. I choose to have enough faith that most people are asking for help because they truly need it, while not being naive to the fact that others may be, yes, mooching. With humanity as a cornerstone, I confidently say the reward of feeding a hungry child outweighs the pitfall of unnecessarily helping someone not in need every.single.day ... and twice on Thanksgiving.

Mental Commentary: A polite way of telling someone they look like sh*t
Hello, has anyone seen the movie Stepmom? Do we not remember the scene when Julia and Susan (what are their characters names btw?) are finally becoming "friends," sitting in the bleachers on a brisk day? ....The line that so-perfectly nails what you want to comeback with every time someone tells you "you look tired." It goes a little something like this: Julia: (btw, I've google'd the quote so I should know their characters names...) "You look tired." Susan: "I hate it when people say that. It's like a polite way of telling you that you look like shit." AMEN, lady. So, every morning when I come into work and the security guard tells me I look tired... I'm tempted to respond with a sans bullshit reply. Something like: "We don't have to tip-toe around politeness anymore, girl. Just tell me. I look like shit, don't I?" ..................................................But what if she hasn't seen the movie?
