Episode 26 - A Conversation With Chill Moody & Wes Manchild
Chill Moody is a rapper from Philadelphia, PA. His buzz has increased throughout the years, and he has collaborated with and has the respect of some of the biggest figures in Hip-Hop. Heâs also well known for his numerous sponsorships and his entrepreneurial ventures, such as his own line of water and his digital distribution label #nicethingsMUSIC. Oh yeah, heâs the Music Ambassador of Philadelphia as well. Wes Manchild is a producer from Philadelphia, PA. East Coast sample chopping skills coupled with Southern drum influences from his days at college in Atlanta give his beats that classic, but not outdated feel. Wes eschews throwing an artist a track here and there for a single, but prefers to make full collaborative projects with an artist. Chill Moody and Wes Manchild come together for such a project, the conceptual and dope âTV Made Me Do It,â which tells a story though various creative TV related references throughout the project. On this episode they discuss the making of the project, how they came together, the music scene in Philadelphia, and tell amazing stories about their journey through music. Donât miss this one! âTV Made Me Do Itâ is available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, and most other major digital retail and streaming services. Episode 25 - A Conversation With DJ Booman
DJ Booman is a legendary DJ and producer from Baltimore. His credentials are too numerous to properly summarize. He is an originator of Baltimore Club Music, and even if youâre not familiar with the genre, youâve probably heard classic records he produced such âWatch Out For The Big Girlâ and âPick âEm Up.â Heâs also a mainstay on the Baltimore Hip-Hop scene, and his work with Baltimore rapper Mully Man (âBmore Go Harderâ & âShe Hurtinâ Emâ) landed a spot in MTVâs rotation. On this historic episode of the Channel 10 Podcast, DJ Booman breaks down the origins of Baltimore Club Music and the early Baltimore Hip-Hop scene. We also get into production techniques, touring, his new projects, how he ended up producing the âGet Off (Baltimore Club Remix)â for Diddy through Kevin Liles, how he got production credits on Michael Jacksonâs âStrangers In Moscow,â and so much more. You canât miss this episode! DJ Booman stays in the lab, and you can check out everything heâs up to here: http://ift.tt/1QxViSw https://twitter.com/djbooman http://ift.tt/1MIwN7b
Jesse âSchoolly Dâ Weaver is a Hip-Hop pioneer whose wide ranging career encompasses a variety of music, television, and film projects, however he is best known for being credited as the first gangsta rapper. His hits include PSK, Saturday Night, Gucci Time, King of New York Theme Song, the music from Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and more.
We talk with Schoolly D about his upbringing in Philadelphia, the early Hip-Hop scene, his song creation process and studio techniques, his relationships and thoughts on artists heâs influenced such as Ice-T and NWA, the influence of drugs and the sound of music, his memory of the day of the bombing of John Africaâs MOVE organization in Philadelphia, making music for the film world, what is means to be Black, hanging with Uncle Luke in Miami, and so much more.
Schoolly D is funny and insightful, and this is a conversation that you must not miss.
This September marks the 30th anniversary of Gucci Time and PSK, in September heâs dropping a new version of Gucci Time and on Black Friday he is dropping the original versions of these iconic songs.

We get into our personal stories and adventures in Hip-Hop involving the likes of #Ghostface Killah, Killah Priest, Trife Da God, Jay Electronica, DJ Premier, Terminology, Lil Fame from M.O.P., Mos Def, and more. We then get into stories about treks to get albums pre-internet. Then we get into edited versions of songs. From there we get into new additions to the lexicon of mainstream America courtesy of Hip-Hop like #THOT, #Bando, and #ratchet. We then get into a host of topics including #gangsta lyrics being used at trials, jailhouse freestyles, and world music artists from genres such as #azonto, #dancehall, #reggae, #soca, and #afrobeat like #Chronixx, #Mavado, Vybz Kartel, Wizkid, Ice Prince, D'Banj, Sean Paul, and Bunji Garlin. We end it off with skin bleaching and the light skin vs. dark skin wars. Needless to say this is a must listen!

RIP Chinx Drugz #MemorialDay
There isnât too much more to say about the passing of Chinx (fka Chinx Drugz, nĂŠe Lionel Pickens) that hasnât already been said or that canât be Googled. When a prominent figure in Hip-Hop dies, all of the retrospectives, think-pieces, conspiracy theories (this is just disrespectful smh), tributes, and hearsay flood all corners of the Internets, some from people who knew him and some from peopleâŚ

The (Rap) Evolution of Gucci Mane
The (Rap) Evolution of Gucci Mane
I remember in 2005 sitting on my couch watching MTV Jams. About 80% of what played I did not like. However, I liked Lil Robâs âSummer Nightsâfor whatever reason. I like it till this day. Perhaps the primary song I despised was Gucci Maneâs âSo Icy.â I felt it was just too elementary for people to listen to, but I trucked on and waited for the next thing to show for the hundredth time, which wasâŚ

Fight talk!! (airhorn sound effect here)!!! We get into a lot of sports and the intersection of sports and Hip-Hop on this episode. After talking a bit about Baltimore, we get into the event that was Mayweather vs. Pacquiao. Then we get into some UFC talk with the Jon Jones hit-and-run situation. Moving to academia, we get into Michael Eric Dysonâs scathing 10,000 word essay about Cornell West. We then get into rappers using tragedy for self promotion, and then we come back to sports and the athletes who have been involved in Hip-Hop, including Shaq, Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, Iman Shumpert, Ron Artest, and more.
We also talk about rappersâ health issues dealing with obesity and drug use, and other random Hip-Hop talk discussing many things including music videos, The Box, Xzibit, Tha Liks, Loud Records, Kool G Rap, Digable Planets, Alchemist, and Prodigyâs discography.
We also talk about how back in the day (because we guess weâre old heads now) you may hear a song on a mixshow or see a video and then never see it again. That leads into our conversation about Bizzy Bone and BET Uncut, which we get more in depth with in part 2 of the episode.

Episode 6 (Part 2) - Young Thug SaysâŚ
Our conversation about #FreddieGray and the #BaltimoreUprising protests from Episode 6 Part 1 somehow transitioned into a conversation Young Thug, Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka, Future, et al.
We ask the question âwhat completely solo Young Thug record can you remember?â.
We also get into newer albums from Mobb Deep & Raekwon, Raekwonâs discography, and various things related to Wu-Tang (for some reason our conversations always come back to the Wu lol).
We end with some podcast business that probably shouldnât be on the podcast, but f it lol, and also we wrap up our Freddie Gray conversation from Episode 6 Part 1. Check it out!

This is a special episode, because after our last episode regarding Freddie Gray, things in our city have escalated to âstate of emergency statusâ. Artic recounts his story speaking with a looter/rioter in the emergency room, and from there we reflect on the protests and riots as a whole, growing up in Baltimore, Baltimore politics, the curfew and the National Guard coming in, experiences with racism and police, and once again we search for solutions.
This is another two parter because we were talking for so long, on part two which is soon to come we get into some music talk.

Episode 5 - On Freddy Gray, the Baltimore Protests, & the Search For a Solution
We had another more Hip-Hop based episode on deck, but weâll have to push that until next week. On this episode, recorded the day after the big Freddy Gray protests in Baltimore on the eve of Saturday 04/25/2015, we discuss the Freddy Gray incident, the protests after, and the history of Baltimore Police brutality and the cover ups. The conversation then takes a turn to more abstract but related topics of protests in general, making real social change, consciousness, the role of Black women in all of this, morality, the role of religious institutions, and ends with a powerful ârantâ by Singodsuperior about the need for all humans to respect all other humans as human beings.
At the end, we try to lighten it up a little bit with some Hip-Hop talk about what would be on our protest mixtape.
#Shoutout to Baltimore BLOC, The Baltimore Spectator, Black Lawyers for Change, the Office of Neighborhood Safety in Richmond, CA, J. M. Giordano (@JMGPix on Twitter). #RIP to #FreddyGray!
