Aloha, Everyone (S02E01) ST DENIS MEDICAL (2024—)
ST. DENIS MEDICAL 2.08 • A Waste of Time and Marble
as a mattserena shipper and a ronjoyce shipper this episode made feel like i just smoked crack
my wish list for the ron x joyce nation in season 3 is to meet the "whole henderson crew," finally see this famed lakehouse, and witness sanderson discovering joyce find the partner she's deserved
Okay, so I know this is a niche fandom and a niche take, but the thing about Bruce/Matt/Serena is that it fits into one of my FAVOURITE ot3 tropes where Character A is deeply personally invented in seeing B & C get together and DEEPLY in denial that it’s because they’re in love with them both. Extra bonus points because of the age gap because cynical, love ‘em and leave ‘em Bruce is forced into Character Growth by having feelings about these two younger, sparkly-eyed lovebirds
Yes, I'm still wrapped up the Matt and Serena of it all when it comes to the S2 finale (they are adorable, I love them!), but can we just appreciate a couple of other things in that ep?
Ron, the 'grumpy' character of the show, the same character who only really goes to work social events for his contractually-obligated time before leaving, who complains about the people in the hospital every day in his own grumpy way... The reveal that he considers his coworkers close enough to him to be family, and that he was doing his best not to worry the rest of the gang by not telling them about the date of his surgery?? My heart 🥺💖👏
That scene on the stairs between Ron and Alex when they talk? Ron asking Alex to tell his kids about the surgery after it's finished, and then implying that he thinks of the work gang as his family because he didn't tell them either?? I don't know why, but that moment hit me like a truck 🥺 Maybe it was the brilliant acting in that scene, or the fact that I adore found family vibes in my sitcoms, or the fact that it's such a heartfelt payoff of Alex's plot in that ep? I'm not sure, but I love that a sitcom like St. Denis Medical, where there are a lot of great comedic moments, takes the time to go for these more serious, heartfelt moments. They make you care for the characters, and appreciate their humour more 💖 An good example of this was Bruce reading the poem and calling his mom to ask if she thought that his dad would be proud of him... 💖
Speaking of Bruce and the other members of the hospital gang! I liked S1 Bruce, but I love the different layers of Bruce that we see in S2 - his blossoming bromance with Matt? Love them together so much, and the fact that he was so concerned about Matt's feelings during S2E14, and be the one to push him to be more courageous when it came to Serena in S2E16? Yes to all of this! 👏😍 The fact that Bruce was so worried about Ron's surgery going well because he didn't want to lose somebody else close to him?? The gang all waiting for news about Ron's surgery? Val breaking down as soon as she knew that he was going to be okay?? This is my found family!! 👏
Finally, I had Ron and Joyce in the back of my mind as a potential ship since S1, but wasn't sure if it was just my overactive imagination... But it was when Joyce left the ribbon cutting so that she could be by Ron's side in S2E17 that it really became a seed in my mind, and then the S2 cliffhanger happened, and I'd be so happy if they go down that route - they really do have such a lovely vibe together 👏💖
I just realised that this is way too long already, but basically I need people to squee about this show with 👏💖
there is a gifset that exists in my head and it's ron saying he loves to watch joyce butcher amy winehouse karaoke in s1 (1.16 maybe?) and ron bandaging joyce's ankle and being nice to her in the s1 finale and ron saying he'd much rather sleep with joyce in 2.03 and ron defending joyce from sanderson's nonsense in 2.08 and ron telling joyce she's a catch at the arcade in 2.14 and then at the end it's "where is my joyce?" and i can't gif but i'm just telling y'all. if i could gif, this is what i'd be giffin'. this is MY VISION. 🤩
