Have i ever told you that you draw the best smiles its my fav thing
Thank you Chicken :D
Quick concept art for a new Aspect and a returning one.
Work update: Sigel's design is kicking my ass. I'll get it posted once I'm satisfied.
Comet and I actually spent yesterday evening and a good chunk of today figuring out the renames and bouncing ideas around for the characters, and what we've got so far is mostly spoilers, but I'm surprisingly excited about it!
Originally, I expected that the entire cast was going to be changed around, considering how little purpose a couple of them had in being in the original story in the first place...plus how much frustration was in my system that was demanding I just throw out everything and start over. As I continued thinking, that went down to "Okay, maybe just one or two go", and now we're at each main character having a role and purpose this time, so they're all staying! A lot has changed about all of them - names, appearances sometimes, role in the story, bits of personality, history, etc. I'm particularly excited for "Little" and "Fly" as I'm working on them - credit to Comet for coming up with a brilliant idea for Slate that I can extrapolate a shitload of fun content from.
I really would love to go into all the ideas stewing in mine brain, but a good chunk of them would absolutely ruin the new plot before it even gets written, so they sadly have to stay where they are. I can at least drop the renames and redesigns here:
Mistface is now Mistsong. He is now a longhaired blue ticked tabby with pretty pale green eyes. Yes, he is still handsome, and he is very aware of it.
Greyleaf is now Fogleaf. (I also like Fogroot for him, but Comet suggested against it for the "groot" in there potentially causing jokes.) He is now a longhaired blue classic tabby, with particularly dark stripes. He has pale green eyes too.
Darkpelt is still Darkpelt...for a special reason. You'll see. She's now a pure black cat, and still has blind yellow eyes.
Redheart is now Garlandfang. She is also red-and-white patched instead of just having that Abyssinian-like red coat, and has copper eyes.
Littlepaw is now Pinpaw. Her design remains the same: small fawn calico with curly fur and blue eyes.
Laurelclaw is still Laurelclaw, but it may be changed early or mid-story to Laurelseed for certain character reasons. He is still a massive white tom with yellow eyes, but has a scar or two around his lower shoulders.
Flyfang is now Slatefall. She's a dark grey spotted molly with a permanent indent around her neck, where fur is thinner. She also has a white tail-tip and chest dash, and yellow-green eyes.
Beetlefoot is now Otterfoot. His design remains largely the same: a long-legged but relatively small sepia brown pointed tom, with orange eyes.
See, and I don't even know why I didn't think to make Grey in the original a Fog-. It fits a whole lot better thematically in this version, but, like, Fog-'s such a great prefix! Why not use it! The fuck!!
What does Pin- refer to as a prefix? I searched the list and don't think I saw it
Pin- specifically refers to the Northern Pintail, a species of duck! You can find it in the Dilute Calico section on the list.

I will never be over the fact that in the first version of this story, I purposefully situated this setting in California to use California-based warrior names, only for every single main character to have the most basic, easy-to-find-in-any-system name possible.
Got name-changes almost finalized! I'm allowing myself to be a little loose in case characters or story change and the names no longer fit, but I've got pretty good bases for right now. I'll share them once I'm more certain of their permanence.

After an entire day of working on this thing with my friend Comet (massive thanks to them for the colors and design assistance), have the redesign of Mona, the Aspect of the moon!
In other news, the blog has a proper theme now!
One thing that's bothered me about the original Steorra - probably the most out of everything - is that my friend and I came up with plenty of neat ideas for the setting, but the fic itself utilized almost none of them. I imagine this new version will be a good deal longer just based off of that. I really do want to take the time to let the world be seen through the eyes of the characters in-story, you know?
My policy for writing in general is that I should try to tell the story as if the reader has never seen any of the worldbuilding posts I've dropped on a blog or in the comments, or wherever. I want to avoid a situation where the reader has to do homework just to get the full picture. That's not fun for anyone. It should be a complete, satisfactory setting and story all on its own, and the content elsewhere is just bonus material.
Im excited to read what i missed XD
Please do not read the old one before this one gets started. I am asking you as a friend. I promise this one will be a lot better.
I am so embarrassed that I forgot that asks aren't automatically open on blogs, I'm sorry. They're open now.
It really surprises me that that there are people who liked Steorra as much as they did and do! I've been steadily less and less pleased with it over the years, especially because I used almost none of the worldbuilding in the fic itself and, frankly, I feel I could have done better, haha. I'm really glad you're here to see my second go at this, even so. That's extremely kind of you, thank you. I hope you'll enjoy the ideas I've got cooking.
I'm really glad the first version was able to help you through a tough time, as well. I'm so sorry you had to lose two pets so close to each other - I know how painful that is and I don't wish it on anyone. I hope things are better for you now, and you can follow this version in much higher spirits.
Hello to the (peeks, under breath) 34 people, holy shit (louder) 34 people who've followed this very-much-a-WIP blog! Apologies for it being quiet; it's the weekend and thus my union-ordered break days, so I'm resting my brain. I've got a good chunk of new ideas for the plot written out so far, as well as some worldbuilding, and I would like to mention a spoiler-free revision or two once Monday rolls around, if y'all are interested.
I also didn't realize I didn't have asks on this entire time, apologies. If you've got anything to ask about or say, please feel free to do so!
If you want to know where my headspace was at when I first decided to rework this fucking thing.
First pass at the new map. Apologies for the handwriting.
