I don't know if I can ever watch Goncharov again, tbh. I caught it completely by accident back in 2011, at this tiny picturehouse cinema just off the Royal Mile in Edinburgh (long since closed down now). It had been raining all day and I was soaked through, so I just decided to see whatever they were showing. Obviously it was Goncharov and, I dunno, I'd really been going through some stuff that year and seeing a movie, all about how powerless we are in the face of fate, but how that doesn't have to rob us of dignity, it hit me hard. I've tried to watch it again since, but I've never been able to recapture that magic, so I tend to go for other Scorsese movies when I'm in that sort of mood.
