White Diamond Theory Addition - Pearl and Blue Diamond
So, a few months ago, I posted a theory about what I believed was White Diamond’s role on Corruption and how she was capable of affecting a Gem’s mind and their very gemstone, thanks to her ability of Geokinesis.
First WH Corruption Theory
To summarize, my theory is that White Diamond holds the power of Geokinesis (as all 4 Diamonds control the 4 classical elements of Water/Ice (Blue), Earth (White), Fire (Pink), and Air (or Electricity in the case of Yellow)). With the power of Geokinesis, White Diamond is able to control Homeworld and its Gems, literally and figuratively.
As of Gemcation, everyone and their mother has been theorizing that White Diamond has some sort of control or mental lock on Pearl that prevents her from divulging key information even if she wants to, as evidenced when her hand covers her mouth involuntarily and she’s unable to pull it off.
And of course, the same thing happens in Back to the Moon, where Pearl covers her mouth and starts shaking when the subject of Rose shattering Pink Diamond is brought up.
Eeeeeeveryone knows about this theory and more people theorize this is some curse rather than her own actions, and I agree. But, here’s my specific theory:
Pearl was obviously witness to the shattering of Pink Diamond. Whether it was White Diamond or Rose Quartz that directly shattered Pink, White was involved, and Pearl knew about this. To prevent Pearl from exposing her involvement, White used her powers to manipulate Pearl’s very gemstone and keep her from speaking.
Compared to all other Pearls we’ve seen so far, Pearl’s gemstone is the only one that isn’t a perfect circle
And we know that during Corruption, a Gem’s gemstone is physically altered:
Additionally, we know that when Centi was semi-Uncorrupted, it seemed like remembering what happened in the past during the Rebellion may have triggered her regression back into her Corrupted form (and it functions as a parallel to PTSD).
Something else I’d like to add that I never thought of until now, is the idea that White used her powers on Blue Diamond as well, but in a different way. Specifically, to completely remove or severely alter her memories, so she had no knowledge of what happened to Pink Diamond.
In her early concept art and during her first two appearances, Blue Diamond is shown with long dark hair that flows down her back like a veil. However, her modern appearance shows her with white or blue-white hair that loops around her chest.
Now, we know the meta reason for this difference is that the Crewniverse hadn’t nailed down Blue’s final design at the time of The Answer. But, a possible canon explanation for this could be that after Pink’s shattering, White manipulated Blue’s memories severely, resulting in the extreme change of her hair becoming white and causing her gemstone to alter. Compare the gemstones of Yellow and Blue Diamond:
Yellow’s seems more uniform, symmetrical, whereas Blue’s is oblong, like a tear drop. Of course, this could just be how her gemstone was formed since they’re different Diamonds, but hey, who knows?
Another explanation for why White may have manipulated Blue’s memories is not that she necessarily wanted to to protect her involvement in the murder… but because Blue asked her to do it intentionally.
In The Zoo, when Greg refuses the advances of the Zoomans, they feel grief for the first time, the grief of lost love.
In their pain, they reach their hands up to the sky and cry “Take this pain away!”
From the moment I saw this scene, I knew it had to have great importance. It harks back to the Pyramid Mural from Season 1, where many hands are reaching their hands to the sky… towards an icon of White Diamond.
Perhaps this is a parallel to Gems of Pink’s court begging her to take their memories away as well, or to even be shattered (hence why we don’t see many known original members of Pink’s court, or at least whoever was in her personal entourage at the time of her shattering). But, perhaps Blue was the one asking (or at least, one of the Gems begging to forget the truth).
In conclusion: White Diamond possesses the ability of Geokinesis, the power to manipulate earth, and by extension, Gems and their gemstones in various ways, affecting both their bodies and their minds. This ability was used as part of the Corruption Song along with the body-altering effects of Yellow’s Electrokinesis and the emotion-affecting effect of Blue’s Pathokinesis, AND against multiple Gems (Pearl and Blue Diamond at least) to hide her involvement with Pink Diamond’s shattering.
White Diamond used this ability on Pearl to prevent her from divulging her involvement with the shattering of Pink Diamond, resulting in Pearl involuntarily covering her mouth and her gemstone to change from circular to ovular.
White Diamond then, either of her own volition or upon Blue’s own begging, repressed or removed Blue Diamond’s memories of Pink’s shattering, resulting in her own gemstone to become misshapen and her hair to turn from dark blue to white.
