Still Life Recommends: 200 Years, Studio 34, 6/22
200 Years performs "West Hartford' at Zebulon in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on April 15, 2012
Last fall Ben Chasny of Six Organs of Admittance and Elisa Ambrogio of Magik Markers released a lovely self-titled album under the name 200 Years. This month they bring their somber / serene folk to West Philly's Studio 34 for a concert presented by our friends at Folkadelphia on Friday, June 22.
Opening the show are Jonathan Byerley of Brooklyn's Plates of Cake (he's on the roster of the buzzing La Société Expéditionnaire label), and Still Life alum Brendan Codey (who will be taking a break from space rock jams for the evening, instead showcasing his skilled folksy fingerpicking).
Information on the show and venue here, tickets available for preorder here.

Valtari, Sigur Rós’ first album in four years, is a collection of moodily gorgeous, slow-paced sound-washes. With the notable and remarkable exception of “Varúð,” which builds to a crashing climax in the spirit of the band’s recent classic “Festival,” little here deviates from the absorbing minor-key gloom of albums like 2002’s ( ).

Pre-order tickets for April's Still Life
The next installment of Still Life - this time featuring Fursaxa, Enumclaw and Helena Espvall - is coming up in a few short weeks. You can buy your tickets online via Brown Paper Ticketing here.
Also - please note the change in start time! Another show was scheduled in the First Unitarian's side chapel that night, so Still Life will now begin at 9 p.m.
DATA GARDEN: QUARTET will be the first bio-reactive and plant-controlled work of art at The Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Situated in the Megawords exhibition space, participants will be encouraged to accompany four large tropical plants that are fitted with specialized electronic sensors. By converting the physiology of the specimens into data, the plants will perform quadraphonic audio compositions in real time. The very presence of museum goers will affect this performance, resulting in a unique composition from moment to moment.
Participating artists: Sam Cusumano, Alex Tyson, Jessica Hans, Joe Patitucci +more
