backrooms looks so interesting!! please give a review after
I really enjoyed it! it was very fascinating and did a good job at keeping the mystery without feeling the need to overexplain itself in fear of being misunderstood. there were a few moments where I thought they were about to do a corny title drop but I appreciated the fact that they resisted this, and actually kind of went the opposite direction; when characters attempt to explain what the Backrooms even is they always fall short, unable to fully grasp the concept. the cinematography was inspired and I loved how many shots felt disorienting and almost dizzying like I might fall over in my chair if I stared for too long. I enjoyed the metaphor of the backrooms as an inescapable cycle of trauma, something amorphous that mirrors itself to the person experiencing it, something that distorts memories and perception over time in the same way our memories of events twist and distort the longer we sit with them. it's a really interesting abstraction of how trauma feels for someone who is unwilling, or perhaps unable to unpack their trauma. also probably goes without saying but I loved the sets, they were all fantastic and interesting to look at. I enjoyed the pops of colors in the natural environments, how the main characters almost seemed desaturated compared to the world they lived in almost as if they don't fully belong or they don't fully fit in. all in all I really enjoyed it!!
