"Unless my eyes deceive me..."
"Giving a fresh meaning to ‘growing up.’"
"How have you been? How long has it been since we’ve seen each other? I was gone for about….5 weeks? Six weeks?"
"You think so, huh?"
"Let me here one, I’ll be the judge." she meant it jokingly, but it came out a bit harsh.
"Well, no, if you don't want the joke, you're not deserving of the joke."
Chris suddenly felt very awkward upon realizing that he probably has sounded a little too excited. Regardless, he approached his friend, eager to ask about something that’d been on his mind for awhile now.
"Nothing’s going on! Well, that is- a lot is going on, but nothing that you need concern yourself with."
"Sorry, I’d not meant to scare you. I was just wondering how things were going with that servant-girl you’d come to visit awhile ago. Her name was Elena, wasn’t it?"
"Preparing for the wedding?" Stiles asked, raising an eyebrow. "I've heard whispers around town."
"Oh, Elena? She and I have been doing lots of adventuring. I'm just coming back from seeing her, actually-you know, that fiancee of yours has been running her ragged, but she never complains to anyone-well, she complains to me, but I don't count-and...yeah."
"That’s what I do. I worry."
"You don't need to. I'll be all right."
"Stiles! I’ll have you know I clean up pretty well."
"If you come to the wedding, you might be astounded."
"Do you really think I'm going to be invited to the wedding? The princess hates me."
"Somehow I find that hard to believe."
"If you cared about her how could you leave her like you did? The truth was that I lied to her about who I was when I first met her."
"But-okay, maybe not many flies, but I have fought people. Sometimes."
"I care about her enough to know that her life is easier when I'm not around." Stiles clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth. "That's pretty bad."
"Have you you had any of this checked out by a doctor yet?"
"Are you in pain when you breathe?"
"I can't really afford a doctor."
"Sometimes, when I breathe too deeply."
"I can’t see you hurting a fly."
"I don’t know how it’s any of your business, but I told her the truth."
"I have hurt flies! Many flies!" That was a bit of a lie, but no one needs to know.
"It's my business because Layla is my sister and if you were a jerk I need to have 'words' with you. What's this awful truth?"
Damon looked the boy up and down and smirked. “You know, for some reason I’m not very worried. Plus, haven’t you heard? Things are over between us.”
"Don't underestimate me. I'm basically your height, you know."
"What did you do?"
Despite his royal duties as a prince, Chris more-than-often found himself wondering about the lives of his people, and even more so, the lives of his friends. He nearly squeaked when he saw Stiles along his halls again.
"Stiles! I’ve been looking for you." Chris took a deep breath, trying to keep from seeming too-excited to be talking to someone unofficial again.
Stiles had been trying to sneak out of the castle for the past hour and a half, but every time he got close to the escape, a guard walked by, sending him scurrying back to where he started. He was being very careful about people seeing him-he had to be. Even though most of the court liked him, that wouldn't stop some of the more justice oriented ones from turning him in. He yelped softly when Chris said his name.
"Jesus, I thought you were going to arrest me. What's going on?"
"The brother who left her without an explanation and had her worried sick? Some brother you are."
"I'm also the brother who would destroy you if you hurt her."
"Yeah, so? What’s it to you?"
"I'm Stiles. Ahem."
"Layla's brother."

"I can see that." Layla said. She was worried about him, of course, but she trusted Stiles. For the most part. She smiled again, the relief evident on her face. "Warren is at least two heads taller than I am." She shrugged.
"Well," Layla said, looking him up and down once again, "What do you want for dinner? I have work, but I should be able to whip something up."
"Oh, these?" Stiles asked, gesturing to his face. "No, this was a little bit of roughhousing that got too rough if you get what I'm saying." He laughed. "It was a hell of a lot of fun though, Layla, let me tell you." Stiles measured Layla's height against his own. "Definitely."
"No, no, don't worry about dinner. Though, I think you need to tell me what's new around here." Stiles grinned. "Any hot gossip?"
"I’m just worried you’re not telling me something."
"It's fine. I'm fine."
"Quit worrying so much."
"Unless my eyes deceive me..."
"How’ve you been taking care of yourself, kiddo?"
"You look a little leaner."
"I've been doing all right."
"Layla says I got taller too."
"Technically,"
"It’s not breaking in if this is my house."
"….Well, sort of."
"Do you need help getting in your house?"
"Because I can help you with that."
"I’ really not in the mood for this!"
"But my jokes are great!"
