“Can I Keep This?” Watercolor, ink, and Digital Textures

Sometimes I need a to make something Not Cute.  As a continuing middle finger to my Illustration proof who wasn’t sure I could and “challenged” me to draw horror art. Not only did I do it, it became the first art I ever sold -to a horror website- who used as their logo for 5 days until users asked it be taken down because ti was too disturbing. 

Yes, I can Horror.

Dude that is awesome! I love the otherworldly vibes this is throwing. Thinking about it, it almost looks like something you would see in a more mature Kingdom Hearts game.

TFW the Germanic peoples invited over to help you deal with the “Northern Barabarians” leave a tiny Avatarling in their wake and he is happily informing you that he is gets to stay and be your little brother, and you can be best friends and share this island and you *just know* this worse than the Picts, Scots, and Irish and you really need to kill him now but you realize you are not yet that heartless.

For a second I thought those things at the top were some sort of bat/duck hybrids and was going to ask you if they were some funky mythical beast. But I took a closer look and they’re cute dwagons.

Gilda Mars and the 新宿 Jaunt

The second half of an art trade with the ever-lovely Jenny Secret! First half is here.

I’m super grateful to her because she got me off my ass to do some backgrounds for once. Sure, I cheated a bit and used a photo from the time I visited Tokyo, but the challenge there is representing it properly without overdoing it and using a color scheme and have it match the the subject.

This is pretty good. Really like how you distinguished the blues so that they really stand out from each other. Having the buildings be white gives this great focus on Gilda and almost makes it look like she’s in the clouds. As for some critique. Her left leg looks like it’s a bit of an odd angle. Maybe just adjusting the foot a bit so it’s more parallel to the right one. The background also feels like it’s not really meshing with Gilda. She looks more like she’s been superimposed onto it. I think having her cast a shadow would have helped there or having some sort of debris near her feet. Just something that helps tie her to the rest of the image.

Dextral, Sinistral, and Medial. I was about to say, this is a bit on the nose. But seeing as how I just got it then maybe it’s probably not. Nice touch having Medial be entirely on the defensive and I liked her weapon.

I would definitely recommend Annihilation if you don’t mind some body horror. Highly suggest it in theaters too because the sound and music really add to the uncomfortable mood.

So let me see if I got this straight. It’s, uh, Madoka Magica mixed with Persona 4 style Shadows and Etrigan (THE DEMON) transformations? That was a nice(horrible?) design for Legion though. Really nails that endless demonic horror vibe.

Your AT comics we're really what got me into adventure Time in the first place. That time in my life will always have a special warnth that's hard to explain. I was always intrigued with the direction you were takeing in your interpretation of adevture time. Maybe instead of catching up on where you left off you could continue with the fringe timeline you created into your own au.

In hindsight, AT had a lot of writing flaws that really bothered me. They foreshadowed future events that never really got anywhere, they create changes to the status quo that they reverse a few episodes after, and they lessen the significance of otherwise significant events.

Of course, to keep writing fresh, you’re supposed to subvert expectations, but at the same time you hook in an audience by showing normal causality, that this leads to that, etc. I may have enjoyed the creativity too much to retain any criticism in the long run.

But I dealt with it my own way and also used it to improve my own writing. I strove to create humanity in the characters, and made them feel the immensity of their situation and the emotional weight they carry. I added extra plots behind the episodes, narrative parallels, thematic opposites, and recurring jokes. I understood that it’s important to trim the fat in an 15 minute episode but there’ll always be something important left on the cutting room floor. I guess as fans we serve that purpose, play around with implications, add weight, and create ships.

Again, I offer no promises, BUT, I’m deeply thankful you were moved by my works; that had always been one of my goals.

Dig deep into life, my friend. It is tragic, and yet beautiful.

AT is pretty great at setting things up but it often stumbles when it tries to stick the landing. A lot of that has to do with its short episode run time and the fact that their main audience is still little kids. I still think they succeed more than they don’t or else I wouldn’t be following the show at this point. One thing I feel they really nailed was Betty, though. Not going to spoil anything in case you want to catch up but they did an excellent job of placing her in Ooo. The culmination in the Elements miniseries was well earned.

My A-Timers (Ha!) fan comics were always heavy in intertextuality, with references from both the series and my other comics. If I were to do the finale, it wouldn’t be a proper one because it needs to pull from its entire history to honor the run, not just up to the point when I dropped off from the series.

Understandable, at this point most of us are just hoping CN will actually air the finale on television. Come what may, though, it’s been a good run at least.

In an entire convention I was only able to find a singular person(a) that was selling anything SMT related. She had some buttons, a Jack Frost sticker and that nice crossover print at the top. There was plenty of P4 and P3 stuff about and even some P1 and P2 prints(prints of the protags). But for everything else mainline there was only this one person. Mind you there was some very good Persona things as well like that double sided TV baggy and those tarot card wood burnings. Then again I guess it was more of a surprise that there was anything SMT at all.

Our DM has started to go on the warpath and has “suggested” we make backup characters, 2 people have already died. The only requirements for the new characters would be that they be the opposite alignment of what your old character was. Well I was playing Fire Emblem so this girl jumped to mind when I thought of Lawful Evil. Did this as a quicky so some of this stuff may be over the top.
