I absolutely blame Facebook for this shift. Words cannot describe how freaking WEIRD it was in the mid-00s when there was suddenly this popular website where you were required to use your real, brickspace name and encouraged to post photos of yourself. Every single bit of Standard Internet Safety prior to then said that you should never ever ever do either of those.
omg 2005/2006. When all our parents, who had been telling us for YEARS to never use our real names on the internet, suddenly all got facebook accounts and started using their real names on the internet like it was totally normal. Complete mental whiplash. Before then, it was WEIRD to use your real name on the internet. Like, people who did that were weirdos.
[Image Description: initial tweet by Mini Modu, @ MinModulation, that says "The idea of the internet as a third space for co-identities, 'avatars', 'pseudonyms', doesn't really exist for normies. They love selfies and I.Ds--the net is purely a marketing platform for their Face, like the mall. They lo..." the tweet gets cut off as it's retweeted by SuRge, @ SRG_Works, who adds "The fact that normies never embraced the idea that the 'net was a great place to have 'alter egos' and just be free from insane societal pressure really is wild. Instead they used the Internet to double down and make it for non-conformists to escape." End I.D]
It really is difficult to describe how bizarre that felt, isn't it?
Like imagine you spend most if not all of your childhood hearing "don't feed the bears" and all the reasons why that's a terrible idea. So okay you agree, while life might sometimes present the temptation to feed some bears it's a bad idea and you'll never do it. Still plenty of ways to enjoy nature, after all!
Then one morning you wake up and all the adults and organizations who spent so much time and energy on hammering home that you never, ever, ever feed the bears, are enthusing over this new Bear Feeding Park! Where all you do all day long is go feed bears! And absolutely you must get to the Bear Feeding Park and start hanging out there and throwing parties there and feeding bears, making sure all the important milestones of your life or even just mundane things feature, to some extent, a visit to Bear Feeding Park. Where you feed bears.
And you're like... well, if nothing else, is it somehow less dangerous to feed bears now? The answer to which is no. Not at all. Bear attacks skyrocket to an all-time high and stay there. Somehow this does not actually seem to deter anyone. You suggest that maybe this is a sign that Bear Feeding Park is a bad idea and people are like, oh no, we just need to find other ways to stay Bear Aware. We can't give up going to Bear Feeding Park, after all! You can't get hired unless you've got a good reputation at Bear Feeding Park!
Yeah I'm still not over it. What in the good goddamn fuck, actually.
this is about how it's sort of implied that they wash clothes entirely by hand on the houses (using constructs) which means camilla saw a washing machine for the first time ever on new rho

finished one of the most amazing reading experiences in my recent memory! these two are my very favourites.
keep the notes spoiler-free! thank you!
the replacement of websites with apps sounds so backwards when you actually describe it. like hmm you have to download an entire program onto your device each time you want access to a portal, where it takes up storage indefinitely. somebody should invent an app where you can "browse" any portal just by typing in its address... 🥴
You mocked me one never do it again! I died that day.

it’s never a normal temperature anymore it’s always some fucking bullshit
I need you young people to know it was almost never this hot when I was a child. Millennials and Gen Xers are all nostalgic and excited about summer because it was about ten to twenty degrees cooler to experience it back then!
I cannot express to you how FAST it has gone. I grew up in a world that does not exist now. We're starting on the path to reverse it, globally. You might not know how much solar has EXPLODED in the last decade or two. It's gone from a side thing, a weirdo novelty that was just Not Viable... to whole countries investing in infrastructure. but we have to keep fighting big oil and fascism everywhere we can in order to keep on this road to a new better less scorching burning earth.
But any time you wonder wtf the weather is doing- THIS IS NOT NORMAL, NO. THIS IS NOT WHAT IT WAS EVEN TWENTY YEARS AGO.
In the 90's the record breaking summer temp where I lived was like 85 degrees btw. It's been over 100 for a week straight now.

"masculinity is rewarded in women" "masculinity is accepted in women"
I had a friend who woke up at 4am to shower and apply makeup and everything. Lost literally sleep just to do this, wasted at least 3 hours each day. One day, she didn't feel like it and went to work without makeup. Her boss, a woman, pestered her all day and wanted to send her home. She never went to work without makeup again
The daughter of an acquaintance went to a nice school and sang in a choir there for years. Was very good, went to every concert. When she was about 15, she cut her hair. She still agreed to wear the mandatory gown even though she was a "tomboy". She just loved choir. School banned her from representing school. Because of her hair. Because girls should have long hair or the "aesthetics" were off
I'm not a woman or female but I'm read as such and whenever I have a buzzcut, strangers I've barely spoken to just try to touch it. Touch my head. Just reach out and caress my head without asking. Because they "want to know what it feels like"
Women who don't perform femininity (correctly) get harassed and their bodily autonomy taken away. They get bullied and touched without consent. They get everything commented on (if you think "brave" is a compliment you've never had it used on you)
If you don't think that femininity is enforced, and often violently, you're either a moron or you have no good intentions
In any case, I'm just not interested in what you have to say

"How was your nap, sweetie?"
Sylus speaks as soon as you cross the threshold of his office, his glasses reflecting the light of his display as he sorts through documents.
You don't respond, continuing to approach him where he's seated on the couch. He looks up, concern furrowing his brow. "Nightmares again?"
You just nod, sitting beside him and curling your knees to your chest, leaning against his arm. He accommodates you with a hum, lifting his arm to pull you to his chest, then threading his heavy hand beneath your shirt, rubbing soothing circles onto your back. His fingers trace the contours of your skin with centuries of familiarity.
"You're safe." he murmurs, and you sniffle softly with a nod, letting yourself relax into his warm, steady body as your breath evens out. His lips press to your head, and your eyes droop closed.
He doesn't expect you to speak, so you melt against his chest as it rhythmically rises and falls, timing your breaths to match his as you listen to the classical music from his record player.
It doesn't take long for any lingering unease to fade from your chest. His base is peaceful, the safest place you've ever been. Your home. Nothing bad will happen to you here. Mephisto roosts nearby, preening his feathers.
Sylus doesn't mind you watching him work, continuing his tasks one-handed, his pretty fingers expertly manipulating his display. You let your eyes blur and watch the flashing colors for a while, your thoughts quieting, Sylus's hand tracing your spine and scratching gently at your shoulder blades.
Soothed and content, you rest beside your favorite person. You'll always have a sanctuary to return to.

has anyone noticed that after the porn ban of 2018 tumblr was essentially killed from the mainstream and everyone flocked to other social media sites like twitter and meta. then those sites got enshittified to where twitter became Nazi Central and meta sites had an entire meme around getting “zucced” aka mark zuckerberg himself would ban you for saying a no-no word like fuck. and then the mainstream shifted to tiktok where infamous toddlerspeak sentences like “he got unalived by a pew pew” were born because if you once again say a no-no word like kill or gun or any other word that isn’t corporate i mean kid friendly then the algorithm will bury your post into the ground. and somehow we’ve come full circle and tumblr is now the most bearable social media site because although we can’t have female presenting nipples we can at least talk to each other like adults. has anyone noticed that at all or is it just me and the flaming skull
