Remember that story I wrote awhile back about Dewey getting a kitten? Well, here's how it's going in Chapter 2, in which Dewey introduces Tygrr to his siblings:

It was a fine day to be a door. Today was a fine day because not much was going on. For some doors, like hospital doors for instance, that was as much of a vacation day as they got. For doors in secluded locations, that was the dull daily. But for the entrance to the main hall of McDuck Manor, it meant that it got to enjoy watching the goings on of our feisty and beloved McDuck family.

And then a hyperactive eleven year old split open the door’s spleanters.

We've all seen adaptations of fairy tales where "True Love's Kiss" is the key to conquering evil, but in the original tales...the solutions are far more random and usually pretty messed up.

For instance, in the story that inspired Sleeping Beauty called "Sun, Moon, and Talia", there's no heroic prince who slays a dragon and rescues the princess. Instead, there's a king who forces himself on Sleeping Beauty while she's unconscious, impregnates her, then after she gives birth in her sleep, one of the twins tries to nurse from her finger and sucks out the splinter from the cursed spinning wheel.

In the Grimm Brother's Snow White, the prince falls in love with her corpse and buys it off the dwarves. Then, a few weeks later, one of the prince's servants gets tired of hauling the glass coffin around. So he opens it up and takes out his frustration by smacking Snow White in the back, dislodging the poison apple that was stuck in her throat.

The best example might be The Frog Prince story though. In the original tale, the princess doesn't kiss the frog to break the spell. She actually throws him against the wall and in another version, she literally chops off his head.

How to end a Disney fairytale curse: True Love manifested as a gentle kiss. Because the purest feelings conquer all, and good shall vanquish evil!

How to end a folk-fairytale curse: Most of the time, blunt force trauma, and if not, various bodily fluids. That should do the trick.

Found myself wanting to say that "consuming text is easy and passive, unlike video which requires active effort to watch" and then realized this is the opposite of what basically every other human being would say.

#well. on tumblr you get the thunderous applause. #I recall watching Hank Green talk about how under intense stress he didn’t want to read a bunch of text #he wanted a video to explain things to him #and even though it should have been obvious that a VIDEO CREATOR likes video #my mind was moderately boggled #what do you MEAN you find video EASIER and lower effort #that’s not a real thing - via @tuesdayisfordancing

#each of them have been easier than the other for me at different times/moods #but like. a video you have to pause to process it or click buttons to slow down/speed up #reading is 100% at your own pace #maybe the video feels easier but actually isn't because it keeps going whether or not you're paying attention #but if you're not paying attention to the words on the page they don't scream at you they just exist pleasantly #but having moving visuals to accompany the words can be quite helpful for understanding a concept
