Ted had been begging Schlatt to go out w him & Shay. Charlie tried to take him to a club, Ted tried taking him to a bar. Nothing worked. It was clear he didn't want to be there and they were tired of trying. However, while on a trip to Japan, he ran into Y/N and their friends. Y/N was like no one else schlatt had ever met. The banter was never ending, the talks were undeniably intriguing, and Y/N's natural beauty was nothing less than striking. They were both there on vacation and after talking they found out they're both from around the same area.
At first, when Schlatt brought Y/N up to Ted, Ted was happy for him. Every joke Ted made poking fun at the idea of the two getting together, Schlatt shut down. Although, he couldn't deny he found their name on his lips more often than he'd like to admit. So finally, he asked them out. He did it under his breath, but Y/N heard every word.
