And reading the novel after the drama, it is surprising that the show was more true to the original than I expected. Of course there are some changes but the story and the relationship between two MCs are the SAME. They take care of and admire each other. More than anything, the actors play some of the flirting scenes in the novel!!! And Ling jiushi changed his hairstyle in the drama when they got together in the novel. THIS IS IT. This is one of the most important metaphors I have ever seen.

OK I have to admit being addicted to another romantic Chinese drama and its novel. How beautiful the eyes of Ruan Lanzhu/Nanzhu are when he stares at Ling Jiushi/Qiushi😭😭😭😭😭

sometimes i think about one of the wildest things guardian (2018) did to subtly suggest a relationship while also circumventing censorship is how they had zhao yunlan change his hair from straight across fringe to being parted in the middle, reflecting the historical way chinese women used to change their hair after they got married. he met shen wei and said whelp! i’m hitched now
