It's crazy timing for me to see this because I just got screamed at for a solid ten minutes for taking my Zoloft late and now I wanna die with or without it ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-verse (2018)
just found out thereâs a fetish thing called fin-dom where rich people get off on sending vast amounts of money to people who verbally abuse them and hey just sayin if youâre into that hmu, i got a paypal and iâm mean
the beast: iâm gonna be cursed foreverâŠ.. for who could ever learn to love a beast? :(

great graphic, very helpful for selecting apples in regard to baking, but one amendment should be considered:
a red delicious isnât an apple itâs a wet clump of bitter sand
red delicious is what floral foam probably tastes like if it were edible
Okay so I bought a dress today (along with a pair of dark blue velvet pants they are great)
and it looks pretty normal, right?
WRONG

Gotta reblog this it has a Powerful Good Energy
i wish people (even in the mental health field) would acknowledge that trauma doesnât necessarily have to be an extreme, earth shattering horrifying event in order to affect us. we forget that we are gentle animals. have you ever stopped to think that maybe you being picked last for kickball every time was traumatic? have you thought about the fact that you internalized false messages that you arenât good enough, you arenât athletic, you arenât desirable because of moments like that? nobody acknowledges that seemingly insignificant points in our lives like this in childhood development can be traumatic! and so we grow and we live our whole lives with these ideas in our heads and they arenât recognized because maybe they arenât âshocking enoughâ to be treated, maybe they arenât taken seriously. but they should be. they really really really need to be.
I canât stand⊠book culture. One time someone got me a canvas bag that was like âBooks + Tea = Perfect Dayâ and I drove to goodwill with that shit so fast
Most books suck. Most books are goddamn awful or utterly extraneous. Donât get me wrong, I think weâre deeply lucky to live in a world where most books can vanish without us losing anything culturally or intellectually, rather than a world where books are so scarce that a single person might own like twelve in a lifetime. But still. Books are easy to aestheticize as Magical Portals of Adventure and Whimsy if you only read maybe two genres
AH! Words for that whole⊠situation.
I work at a public library and book culture there is nauseating. Not really among the other employees (though weâve had a few come through over the years), but the patrons?
Oh god the patrons. Most of the people who check out books are just regular people who like reading. I even have patrons who L O V E to read, and who spend a majority of their free time reading or discussing books, theyâre part of multiple book clubs, they always bring a big bag and leave with it full. They arenât the Book Culture People.
Book Culture People loudly announce that theyâre so surprised that there are children who know what books are!
They act affronted when I mention our ebook service, and scoff at the idea that anyone could enjoy reading from a screen instead of off the page!
They are personally offended that publishers hire actors to read the books for audio versions, because they feel that âaudio books cheapen the experience of readingâ and âaudio books are cheatingâ!
They have to proclaim their fetish for ârealâ books, whether through tacky tote bags, weird quote filled pinterest boards and social media posts, or awkwardly shoehorning unimpressive humblebrags about all the classics that theyâre reading into unrelated conversations with tired library assistants.
Theyâre terrible, and I resent them because I fear being grouped with them by the nature of my field.
I was literally just talking about a friend whose classmate in her library science program was bragging because she didnât use any digital resources for her final paper because she ârespected books too much.â Itâs such a bizarre attitude for anyone, much less an aspiring librarian, to have
Iâve also been approached by people while I read in public who are like âOh my GOSH itâs so GOOD to see other people who READ nowadays!! Honestly I just have NO hope for our generationâ and itâs like, first of all if youâre a reader you should know the last thing anyone wants is to be interrupted by a stranger for unnecessary conversation, and second please shut up holy crap
Oh god, Iâve heard that one before.
Hating accessible books and shunning technology is basically the antithesis of modern librarianship.
I donât get the ebook hate, ebooks are literally just books. You cite ebooks the same way, and depending on the format, you donât even say theyâre ebooks.
Itâs a performative, self important approach to something that I genuinely enjoy, and I think it bothers me more than, say, fandom antics, just because itâs so much more common. People get offended when I tell them I donât read a lot in my down time, that I genuinely prefer audio books, that Iâll skip their recommendations because I donât share their tastes.
Itâs so⊠boring.
âPeople donât reeeeead nowadays, everyone spends all their time looking at their phoooooonesâ
My dude
The thing that they are looking at
Is words made of text
People who take an aspect of their lifestyle like reading (or being vegan, because Book Culture People are basically the That Vegan of reading) and turn it into an identity are compensating for something seriously lacking within themselves. And while I understand that many of them are maybe doing this as a result of some kind of emotional damage or pain, as much as I empathize, I also donât have the patience to deal with that shit near me.Â
I was literally just talking about a friend whose classmate in her library science program was bragging because she didnât use any digital resources for her final paper because she ârespected books too much.â Itâs such a bizarre attitude for anyone, much less an aspiring librarian, to have
This is so cringey, especially considering that way back in my first week of library school, our professor very pointedly said âIf youâre only here because you love books youâre signing up for the wrong profession.â
