One of the weirdest thing about growing up suicidal is that you assume you have no future, you don’t even try to envision it because you see no point. So eventually, you start assuming everyone else sees nothing in your future either. Recently, my friend and I were talking and she said something about how at her wedding I could wear a suit or a dress as long as it matched her bridesmaid’s dresses because the butler of honor has to make a good impression. This hit me so hard because I had never realized before how other people thought about me. She said it so casually like it wasn’t even a hard decision, just a given fact. She loves me so much she saw me at her wedding, standing with her on one of the most important days of her life. And you know what? There are so many people who think about you that way. If that isn’t proof that you should keep going I don’t know what is.

Apparently there’s a “kids shouldn’t be allowed in grocery stores” thing being spread on TikTok because they might scream or run around and look yeah that’s annoying but at a certain point you’ve gotta just put up with kids being a little annoying in public. Sure the kid pouring milk in the isles is the fault of a shitty parent and should be asked to leave, but a single mom with an otherwise controlled by crying toddler isn’t doing anything wrong. I think you’ll live if someone’s two year old starts screaming in their arms in isle 3. It might be annoying but that mom is probably having a worse day than you

I work at a grocery store and people are so mean about kids for no reason. If I'm checking out a customer and a kid with another family starts screaming, the person I'm helping will roll their eyes and look at me annoyed like I'm allowing it to happen?? Usually I just go "oh that's how I feel right now" or "I too would be screaming right now if I could" and then see if I can help the family with their shopping or give the kid a sticker or something. I have coworkers who will rant about children being "spoiled out of control brats" if they knock over the paper towels or mess with the gum display by the register, and it always feels so weird and disrespectful and MEAN. They're kids!!! It's their first time being alive!!!! We are being paid to maintain the store. I get that it's extra work, but I'm never annoyed when I have to pick up the packs of gum off the floor because a kid wanted to ask what flavor it is and knocked it over. If a kid is doing something dangerous, like climbing on the packs of water, I either point it out to the parent or go "woah buddy, I knocked those over onto myself last week and it really hurts, do you wanna get down before they fall?" And most of the time they listen and redirect or the parent intervenes. If a kid truly is being destructive on purpose or throwing a tantrum over something "small" I don't blame the kid!!! They have big emotions and a lot of energy!!!! It's the parent's job to make sure the kids are being respectful to products and other people. I can get annoyed at the parents if they're allowing a kid to like poke holes in plastic wrap on food items, but I don't blame the kids!! Because they are kids!!!!! There's a concerning lack of empathy and understanding towards children recently, and it scares me and makes me sad. All of us have been kids before. All of us deserved understanding and patience. And these kids do too!!!! Kids deserve to be a part of public spaces. It's literally how they learn to be adults in public spaces. Have some patience and grace.
