ive been here before, ive ended up in hospital twice, my body is scarred and i would give anything to change that. my life would be so much happier. so believe me, i know how difficult things are right now, i know that it can all feel pointless and awful and exhausting but it gets better.

even if you feel the tiniest fraction better tomorrow, that is improvement and that is amazing. the hardest part is finding that deep inside you, you want to get better. and after that, things will come to you easier. get on medication, get therapy, get a friend you can talk to. you will thank yourself years from now when you are living a life that you truly want.

different fast food outlets have cheaper food and will generally let you hang out for a while.

SHELTER

Sleeping at beaches during the day is a good way to avoid suspicion and harassment

sleep with your bag strapped to you, so someone can’t steal it

Some churches offer short term residence

Find your nearest homeless shelter

Look for places that are open to the public

A large dumpster near a wall can often be moved so that flipping up the lids creates an angled shelter to stay dry

HYGIENE

A membership to the YMCA is usually only 10$, which has a shower, and sometimes laundry machines and lockers.

Public libraries have bathrooms you can use

Dollar stores carry low-end soaps and deodorant etc.

Wet wipes are all purpose and a life saver

Local beaches, go for a quick swim

Some truck stops have showers you can pay for

Staying clean is the best way to prevent disease, and potentially get a job to get back on your feet

Pack 7 pairs of socks/undies, 2 outfits, and one hooded rain jacket

There are places with free wifi access that you can use without going inside, meaning you can have access to the internet throughout most urban areas, and it can be convenient to have bookmarks and contact info and the ability to text, which even in places with public computers like libraries you can’t have

I was homeless. I was homeless as a child and as an adult. That shit sucks believe it or not.

The uncertainty. The ever-present grimy feeling from lack of access to running water. Having nothing to your name. The shame you feel is asking your fellow man for the bare minimum. Just so much shame, man.

"Unhoused" is so clinical. A technical term. Sure, its not incorrect, but it doesn't properly convey the emotional and psychological impact homelessness has on you.

You say "house", I think of a structure.
