That feeling when all of your muscles are ridiculously sore from lifting on Monday. So you lift again on Wednesday and they actually feel better... until you're done lifting and then they're 95,000 times more sore.

I tried to actually turn my brain off tonight while lifting. I was super anti-social as a result, but also less anxious and just kinda whatever about everything. It actually felt really good, I'm gonna make an effort to do it more often. I ended up PRing my front squat (70kg) and fucking FINALLY got back up to a 35kg snatch. I was going to keep going since it felt really good and a little light, but my coach wanted me to end it on a high note.

PRed my squat by 6kg tonight. 100kg squat. And I felt like I could have gone heavier. ~11kg until a bodyweight squat. Squee!

Perspective

I dug out an old log book today. In fact, it was my first ever log book. Lately I've been feeling like I've been lifting forever and have very little progress to show for it, but that book slapped some sense into me. The first time I started seriously lifting (and tracking/understanding what I was doing) was in 2012. 3 years ago. It's only been 3 years! 3 years of inconsistency. My book has huge gaps in it. Nothing between September 2012 and April 2013. Or April 2013 and June 2013. Or June 2013 and November 2013. And at some point in November I started doing Crossfit, which was kind of like starting over. And then in 2014, not even a year later, I stopped and went back to weight lifting. I need to stop counting those years. They don't count. I wasn't focused. I lacked direction. I was clearly just fucking around. I've been focused on lifting consistently for less than a year. 9 months. That's it. In those 9 months I pushed my squat max to 92kg (202.4 lbs), my bench to 48kg (105.6 lbs), and my deadlift to 115kg (253 lbs). I also started learning the Snatch and Clean & Jerk. I started with nothing, just the empty bar and now those maxes are at 35kg (77 lbs) and 50kg (110 lbs) respectively. Thinking that this is the progress I've made over 3 years is silly. This is my 9 months progress. My 3 year progress is finally being at a place where I feel grounded and consistent and know to just keeping moving forward no matter what. Perspective, man. It fucking changes everything.
